We are proud that the council's motions tackling Violence Against Women and Girls – and taking a stance against Palantir accessing British NHS data have both passed.

The cabinet have at least confirmed that they will work with developers and use S106 funding to upgrade Lyle Park, and that work will start on the Royal Victoria bridge lifts in early 2027.

Newham's Green councillors have asked more questions to hold the council to account.

The mayor and cabinet won't make a commitment to unlock NCIL funding through Community Neighbourhoods to empower residents, and won't commit to collect garden waste free of charge.

The Green Group's response to the proposed Local Plan by Cllr Joe Hudson-Small criticises the government's decision step in and to cut our shared commitments to deliver 50% of all new housing at social rent, and to build more council housing.

We start with a technical amendment – a minor change to our council's constitution will now make 'Public Questions' more accessible.

Residents bringing their questions will now be able to nominate someone else to read their question out, if they need.

He has sat down. So that must mean

1. Income tax thresholds frozen still
2. Student loan Plan 2 threshold still to be frozen in April

We will check now, but unless you hear, no news here, fiscal drag (and double fiscal drag for plan 2 students) stays.

You have got to do something about district heat network standing charges too. They’re criminal, yet residents have nowhere else to go.

If you read the headline it implies Zoë forced the October 7th date through, but the emails and even the article are both clear that the date came from officers.
NEW: An FOI I received revealed that the Mayor of Hackney overrode officers' objections over the choice of deadline for the Mayor of Haifa's response to Hackney Council's consultation on detwinning

An initial deadline of late-October was brought to early October, and ultimately the *7th October*, after the Green Party Mayor, Zoe Garbett, made it clear she wanted to force this through as soon as possible

On 19 July 2024, I published two posts on my X account in which I made allegations about Mr Mothin Ali being involved in the Harehills riots. I have accepted these were incorrect and I have jointly made a statement in open Court in order to apologise to Mr Ali and correct the record which is below.

Mothin Ali – apology and Correction

On 18 July 2024, I published a post on my X account in which I stated that Mr Mothin Ali, an elected official and Deputy Leader of the Green Party, was involved in the Harehills riots of July 2024 in which people attacked the police.

That statement was incorrect. In fact, Mr Ali was asked by the police to use his position of trust in the community to help bring about peace on the streets. Mr Ali attended the scene for that purpose alone. He was not involved in the disorder or violence in any way, and on the contrary he was one of the principal reasons of bringing an end to the disorder. I offer my sincere apologies to Mr Ali for my post, the harm I caused, and I have agreed to pay him compensation to vindicate his reputation.

Council tax will never be fair, it is a fundamentally unjust system, being made worse every day with significant cuts to council tax reduction schemes and increasing housing wealth inequality

But this will make a huge difference to many people’s lives. Well done @MartinSLewis 👏
When I met Angela Rayner to campaign for change to overly aggressive council tax debt collection, with its unprecedented rapid escalation to balliffs, she nodded like most politicians do.

I explained it was destructive for individuals, councils and the economy. She listened more then said she'd change it. I was sceptical. Yet a consultation was launched within weeks and delightfully the change announced within 18mths (its in place from next April) - bullet train pace for politics.

I've a rule that if I campaign for a politician (of any party) to do something, and they do it, I say thank you. Its important to recognise it. So thank you so much Angela Rayner for listening and more importantly acting. The changes coming are a great start.

This is complete and utter rubbish! Please stop spreading total fabrications. And FWIW my recent “platforms” in the media - Newsnight and Any Questions last week - were put in the diary weeks ago and had nothing to do with the vote at conference
EXCLUSIVE: Caroline Lucas and Adrian Ramsay plotting vote of no confidence against Zack Polanski.

Former Green Party leader Caroline Lucas and Green MP Adrian Ramsay are plotting a vote of no confidence against current leader Zack Polanski in the coming weeks, according to two sources close to the matter.

It is unclear whether Lucas has any interest in returning as leader herself, but she is actively supporting Ramsay’s effort to take control of the party. Sources say Lucas has been privately rallying influential figures within the Greens to back a challenge against Polanski.

There is concern among those involved that further delay could allow deputy leader Mothin Ali and his supporters to strike first. As part of the campaign to remove Polanski, Lucas is understood to have asked contacts in the media to platform her.

This is bad journalism. The driver complains there is no safe space to turn around once the signs are visible. The council says there is.

You don’t just report it as kind of “he said, she said”, you go down there and find out who’s telling the truth.

Important that @ZackPolanski wrote this.

Ironically, given the chat this week, it shows leadership & balls to admit to the problems & explain what needs to change.

Other political leaders aren’t real, normal people like Zack & that’s why they would never write a thing like this

Not every member joins a political party to contribute to policy development or organisational debate.

Those who do are therefore always going to be somewhat unrepresentative, but I don't think that means we should place barriers on them doing so as delegate conferences would.

There are other mechanisms influencing what is decided & who gets heard at Conference, and how representative our national decision making is.

Reviewing these is slower and harder work, but it is the right response to our new size, while delegate conferences just shut voices out

The first thing I would look at is how unrepresentative, unaccountable & under-resourced Standing Orders Committee is. The decisions they make are some of the most impactful, but it is only five people (not representative under STV), elected only by Conference. This should change
