@MichaelWestBiz Before people dismiss this inquiry note that three retired RAN Admirals testified to it (Barrie, Briggs and Moffat).
They each know a lot more about submarines than anyone in the Albanese (or Morrison) government.

Just saw someone driving a big souped up dark grey ute on Marrickville Road save the life of a toddler who ran straight out in front of them and that was absolutely great aware driving, whoever you were!

Outside the Supreme Court, where the Palestine Action appeal hearing closed for the day, a man was arrested for saying, "In the UK, it's a crime to say, I support Palestine Action".

Police reportedly said it was due to the length of the pause between "crime to say" and "I support.."

'It’s worse than we thought. In research that I have undertaken over the last few weeks based on information compiled by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) about Palestinian journalists killed by Israel since October 2023, I’ve discovered that, of the 68 Palestinian journalists killed by Israel in the first three months of their genocidal campaign, the majority were targeted and killed while at home with their families. My research provides startling confirmation, never unearthed before, of the widespread use of Israel’s AI program, dubbed “Where’s Daddy?”, specifically for journalists, relentlessly targeting them when they were at home, with a complete disregard both for their required protection as civilians under international humanitarian law, and for the often extensive “collateral damage” inflicted on their families.'..

'In conclusion, while I am immensely grateful to the Committee to Protect Journalists for their research, on which this report of mine is almost entirely based, I’d like to send out an open appeal to them to expand their definitions of the circumstances in which journalists are killed. The Palestinian journalists killed are almost all listed under two categories — “murdered”, which applies to 33 of the 189 cases profiled, and, in most cases, “On dangerous assignment.” As I hope to have made clear, Israel has, since October 2023, clearly invented a third category — “Targeted and killed at home” — and CPJ needs to update its categories, because being at home and being targeted and killed ought to be the very opposite of being killed while on a “dangerous assignment.” Home is meant to be where you’re safe.'

Patrick Stewart took a different approach to the Ice Bucket Challenge. Instead of pouring ice water over himself, he quietly wrote a cheque, poured himself a drink over ice and raised a glass. Even his charity work came with impeccable style.

RIP, Sir Patrick Stewart. 🕊️ x.com/jontweetssport…

There will be many, many well-deserved tributes to Patrick Stewart but here's a tribute from the man himself to the teacher and the local council that gave him his first education in acting:

33-year-old Alex Klinner died in Trump’s war back in March. But since, 7 months later, Trump still isn’t calling it a war — his widow and their three small KIDS (7-month-old twins and a 2-year-old son) are being denied basic benefits.

Because those are only available to soldiers excursions.”

I don’t ever want to hear from another Republican that their party “supports our troops.” You send them off to die, then desert them when they do.

The Times has published 0 stories about an Oxford lecturer who was recently charged with child porn offences. Coincidentally she is also a right wing journalist and Michael Gove's girlfriend.
Recognition from fellow journalists is much appreciated as this is undoubtedly a difficult and polarising story, with a tragic outcome. Many people still do not accept its legitimacy but it was an important public interest story which sparked public debate about key issues of our age timeshighereducation.com/opinion/i-was-…

As I just wrote about a few days ago, Meta has a troubling pattern of "accidentally" suspending and restricting left-leaning accounts, often during election periods.

Last month, Meta suspended ad accounts for Lula's campaign in Brazil. Last weekend, Meta suspended the No Kings IG account. And now this. Who's next?
Meta's "accidental" suspension of the No Kings Instagram account — at a time when the org was posting updates from ongoing marches — was not an anomaly. I found dozens of similar instances of Meta "mistakenly" targeting left-leaning activist accounts, often during crucial atest.

Vance went to Yale Law. He married an Indian immigrant. He has four biracial children. He was raised by a grandma who supported gay rights (in 1992). Both of his in-laws are college professors who live in California. He was a Lincoln Republican who likened Trump to Hitler.

Now he's what ever this is. And the depressing part? I think he's sincere. He melted his own brain.
JD Vance says of the Middle East that it's "a region of the world made up of countries whose name I couldn't even pronounce"

OMG the crazy bastards did it. They made a sensible Greens policy. Not a single Mamdani supermarket mentioned. Just a sensible change to our progressive taxation scheme.

Of course, Labor should immediately gazump them by doing this.
The Greens are today announcing our plan to cut tax on work and put more money in people's pockets.

Every Australian will have an extra $1000, paid for by the 1%.

The cost-of-living crisis isn’t inevitable. We can change who pays tax and who gets relief.

An overtly racist network targeted Arday. Not a single outlet investigated that until after his death. This award is a whitewashing of the industry’s failures in its most literal sense. It’s also just appallingly bad taste.

Not a single news outlet has reviewed its coverage of Jason Arday, for accuracy or proportionality. Zero attempt has been made to conduct any inquiry into the media’s role in his death. Instead, the industry has moved into self-congratulatory mode. This isn’t just tone deaf, it ure
