Conduit is a chat app that allows you to go on tangents.
Conduit keeps context management tidy by enabling some pretty cool branching functionality, creating links from whatever you ask.
It's my submission to @theo's cloneathon, and it's free and open source.
Try it out!

in 7 seconds I spin up a debian image, add the vnc+firefox plugin to it and access unikraft.com inside it
what can you do in seven seconds?
what can you do in seven seconds?
Now for something new: just-in-time, millisecond remote desktop functionality 🔥
In this short video:
1. We start a normal microVM with no such functionality
2. We click on the "Desktop" tab and we get a warning that this is a plain microVM and so it cannot show a desktop (sad, est inserting a Desktop (VNC) plugin into the LIVE microVM
4. Clicking on the button does so, in milliseconds, and the display appears 🥳
5. The platform can remove the plugin if not needed, also dynamically
Dynamic, scale to zero millisecond remote desktop envs are now here! 🚀
Coming soon to a Unikraft dashboard near you!

To dashboard or to CLI? That is the question! 🤔
The answer: both! 🚀
We have now integrated our CLI directly into the dashboard, so you can now get the best from both worlds: whatever's easier by clicking you can click to do, whatever's best for typing or scripting you can do l react accordingly.
Thanks to Cezar Crăciunoiu Jesús Enrique Cartas Rascón and the rest of the team for putting this togeher! 🔥

did you know that if you use unikraft, all the bugs and vulnerabilities just bump around inside your VM like the DVD logo?
that's how secure we are

Warm Edge Function invocations on Netlify now take about 5-6ms at the median. On our previous infrastructure, they took 25-40ms.
Requests now run inside our own network instead of going out to a hosted execution service. It's already serving your production traffic at the same pricing, and your functions keep working exactly as you wrote them.

Over a year in the making, we can now finally (and proudly) announce that @Netlify Edge Functions run on top of @UnikraftCloud ! 🚀
It’s been an incredible honour working so closely with the Netlify team. From the very beginning, this has felt like a true engineering partnership, with both teams working side-by-side to rethink what the underlying infrastructure could look like.
Projects like this are exactly why we started Unikraft.
Working with a team operating at Netlify’s scale has pushed us to grow, sharpen the platform, and build new capabilities that will benefit everything we do going forward.
A huge thank you to everyone at Netlify and Unikraft who has been part of this over the past year.
SO incredibly proud of what we’ve built together, and even more excited about what comes next. ❤️

Checkpoints at the speed of a click of a mouse button (~10-15ms 🔥) -- well, I never measured how fast a click of a button is, so maybe my statement isn't true...but it *is* cool to see in action 🙂

i swear this is not sped up in any way. this is just how it works
This is really cool! (I may be biased 🙂, so judge by yourselves)
We start with a microVM that's already been created, but doesn't expose a sandbox API.
We can then add a sandbox "plugin": a plugin is a feature on our platform that allows you to extend our platform's API at a e VM starts out as a plain one, and in this case we "upgrade" it to have it expose a sandbox API (to boot, the auth needed for this API is done transparently by our controller).
The result: click on a button and the platform both (1) attaches the sandbox API and (2) thanks to it instantly drops you into the microVM's terminal. 🔥
And coming very soon, hot-pluggable plug-ins (just rolls off your tongue doesn't it?) : add plugins/extend a microVM's API **while it is running/active** and remove it also dynamically when no longer needed.
So what plugins would you build? 🙂

Now this is fun! Our CLI now runs **within** our dashboard 🔥 -- no more switching around between the two if you don't want to. Coming soon 🙂

Last week-end I built a watercolor simulator based on real physics (as much as possible).
A lot of you asked to play with it so i improved it and it's now live.
New since the prototype:
- More pigments (52), based on the best research out there to predict color mixes luminous / glassy feel
- Some fun experimental stuff like the salt and alcohol techniques to alter the texture, a backlight effect and a few more.
- I also added a Code mode where the simulator prints its real function calls next to the sheet while you paint 🤓♥️
It's still largely based on the same physics model as my prototype: Curtis et al.'s "Computer-Generated Watercolor".
All in the browser.
Current status: building and implementing a kid-friendly version for @withmarbleapp. Plenty of awesome things to learn with watercolor painting!

Release 11 — Metis is out. **This is the biggest release we've shipped.**
It comes with advanced snapshotting (branching and checkpointing), persistent storage via custom filesystems, a plugin API for extending microVM capabilities with custom code, a network shield that sits the public Internet to filter traffic and inject secrets, and a revamped dashboard.
All of it is available now for enterprise customers, and coming to the hosted platform very soon.
Over the next few weeks Felipe, Alex, and Jerome will be doing deep dives on each of the features and what's coming in Release 12. There's a lot to unpack.

"you can just do things" is now real cause you can now fork database instances mid-run without interruptions.
"Fork off", ready very soon in your nearest nodes!
"Fork off", ready very soon in your nearest nodes!
We have a forking 🍴 feature landing end of the month. It allows you to transparently fork any running VM in ~10ms, even at scale, without interrupting the parent VM you spawned the forked (children) VMs from. And you can do this recursively, spawning VMs from VMs.
The mechanism for many use cases, including launching sub-agents and cloning/forking production DBs for (safely) doing development work on them. We also wanted to test its limits: what about forking a 1TB VM/DB? That's also possible in a super nimble < 200ms ⚡️: check the video below out!

With Unikraft, Prisma Postgres reduced its PostgreSQL image from 280MB to 61MB.
These smaller images run as unikernels on bare metal.
That gives each database strong VM-level isolation, while allowing a single machine to host thousands of Prisma Postgres instances.
