A bank requires 2 years of tax returns, 3 months of pay stubs, and a 720 credit score to lend you $30,000 for a small business.
A lender won’t give a 21-year-old a $15,000 personal loan without a co-signer and collateral.
But an 18-year-old high school senior can sign for $180,000 in non-dischargeable loans for a degree with no guaranteed job market.
No business plan. No revenue forecast. No risk assessment.
We won't let teenagers buy a beer, but we allow them to sign away 30 years of their future earnings before their brain is fully developed.
Then we lecture them on financial responsibility when they can't afford a life.
The bank gets its interest.
The school gets its endowment.
And the kid gets the trap.
