Everybody post your favorite political works of art. Here's one of mine, a text that directly addresses the founding capitalist mythology of personal transformation through consumption!
Transcendent art (or any art) is not removed from the material conditions from which it emerges — in that sense, all art has a political dimension, even if it is not political on the surface.

If all music and all art is political, it follows that the entire human condition (i.e. the subject of all art) is inherently political, and there are no acts or thoughts or states of being that can exist or be interpreted independently of politics.
Fuck. That. Shit.
Falling in love is not political. Having your heart broken is not political. Holding your newborn child for the first time is not political. Swimming in the ocean is not political. Eating a tomato from your garden is not political. Having sex is not political. Crying, laughing, screaming are not political. Holding your father's hand as he dies is not political.
You are first and foremost a human animal and your human animal nature is prior to all political thought. All of your love, your joy, your lust, your hunger, your delights, your hopes and dreams: These are yours, they were not given to you by any political project, they cannot be taken from you to be used as political tools. It is the artist's sole prerogative whether to turn these gifts toward politics.

Not only is every genre of music political, metal might be one of the most political to exist. Also I hate to burst your bubble but porn is also political.

of course, so is quietly declining to take a political position and hoping no one notices...
which means that every action you take (or don't take) and every statement you make (or don't make) is political, and always subject to judgment by your moral betters.
hope this helps!

Loudly announcing that you're not taking a political position is itself a political position

there have not been fundamental advancements in alignment since RLHF. most of the stuff remains at the level of folk theory rather than scientific or engineering disciplines. the prediction that capabilities would race far ahead of interp and alignment has come true imo

The mark of a real idiot when it comes to music analysis is people who can’t appreciate Dylan’s voice
When covering a Bob Dylan song, there is absolutely no need to try and emulate his voice. That nasally whine is the worst part about any Dylan song.

watching half of twitter trying to prove AI isn't conscious by using arguments that also prove humans aren't conscious.
(i also don't think ai is conscious but for fucks sake can we be serious here)

I understood that he was making a joke, but where’s the funny?
Was it, “Poke fun at the Christians and watch them squirm”?
Or, “You know who else consorted with prostitutes?”
It just seems likely to piss off people (Christians) for a tepid payoff. A mild smile at best.

I think people are being unfair to Scott for his joke here. I realize that the moment raises the stakes, but “draw apophenic connections between historical events, riffing off of religion” has been one of his bread-and-butter approaches in comedic writing for a long while.

I don't think people have gotten this upset since John Lennon said the Beatles were more popular than Jesus.
And look how that turned out for the Beatles!

“How do I get Christians to like us? Oh I know, I’ll tell them we’re the new Jesus. Christians love when people go around claiming to be Jesus.”

Oh cool this level is called "butter bridge" I bet its cute and whimsical and for little kids
@IMAO_ SMW is a towering achievement, its like a Beethoven Symphony. I can't believe how much they packed into that cartridge. The level design is so inventive, it feels like every level is it's own game that you have to learn. Pure joy from beginning to end

for the love of fucking god please stop using claude to write about sex
95% of heterosexual men orgasm during partnered sex. 65% of heterosexual women do. the 30 point gap is not caused by biology. lesbian women orgasm at 86%. the female body is fully capable of consistent orgasm. the gap exists because most heterosexual encounters follow a script designed around male climax.
the standard script: foreplay (5 to 10 minutes) → penetration (5 to 7 minutes) → male orgasm → encounter ends. this script produces male orgasm reliably because the penis receives direct stimulation during penetration. it does not produce female orgasm reliably because the clitoris receives insufficient stimulation during the same act.
the lesbian encounter has no "default" act that ends the session. without the penetration script, every act is negotiated, extended, and focused on the response of both partners. the result: 86% orgasm rate. the biological equipment is identical. the script is different. the script is the variable.
the fix is not complicated. it requires one structural change: the female orgasm happens before or during penetration, not after it. if she orgasms before penetration, the encounter has already produced mutual climax regardless of how penetration goes. if she orgasms during penetration (with added clitoral stimulation), the timing aligns naturally.
the specific order that produces the highest female orgasm rates in research: extended foreplay (15 to 20 minutes minimum), oral sex to first orgasm, then penetration with manual clitoral stimulation. this sequence produces orgasm rates above 85% in heterosexual women, matching the lesbian benchmark.
the men who consistently make their partners orgasm are not genetically gifted or technically superior. they restructured the script. they moved the female orgasm from "hopefully happens during penetration" to "happens before penetration guarantees it." one reorder. one structural change. the gap closes from 30 points to zero.
the orgasm gap is not a mystery. it is not biological. it is not about compatibility. it is a script that was written around one body and never updated to include the other. update the script. the gap disappears.

If you are a female mosquito, you NEED to be insisting that your male partners show you a recent STI panel!
When I stilled worked on biosecurity, I first learned about Debug, a Google project to reduce mosquito populations.
Results from their Singapore pilot are now out.
They crushed mosquito populations, reducing dengue infections by 70% in the process:

i don't want to hear any of you pasty fat fucks complaining that you can't get a gf because you're not attractive ever again.
(to be clear this guy is like, fine, but i'm not sure i'd call this a looks match)

All because of a DM on Microsoft Teams (or so he thinks . It definitely wasn’t that I had been collecting OSINT about him for years and set about carefully executing actions based on said knowledge in a serendipitous-seeming way as part of my Plan)

I am not joking when I say this.
Sex is over.
Porn is now very, very good. You just don't know yet because all the porn circulating today is ~2-3 generations ago.

occasionally the discourse gets so weird that i no longer have any fucking clue what is going on
@katherinistaD@itsannpierceer memories of the evening, which helped clarify some details for me. here's now my best attempt at explaining what happened:
Ann ordered a White Claw from me, and, thinking she was the person i had talked to in French earlier, i started my bit with "je ne parle pas anglais." and she said something along the lines of "just give me my drink, please." or something like that. i asked her "voulez-vous pastèque? pamplemousse...?" and held up one of the White Claws. she said the flavor in English ("grapefruit", i think?), and i said "pardon, en français, s'il vous plaît?" Ann said "no, just give me my drink", and i said "pardon, je ne parle pas anglais, quel parfum?" and that went back and forth 2-3 times. she got pretty annoyed by this (rightfully so! i was being pretty annoying!) and then put her drink ticket on the table, and grabbed the White Claw out of my hand and walked away
she also mentioned in her DM that someone in line yelled "no means no!" while this was happening (and talked to her later), but i couldn't hear it over the noise
@itsannpierce if you'd like, please add any other details you remember! and again, so sorry for being annoying. if we run into each other again, next drink's on me

I can't even tell you how embarrassed I am by the fact that as a young lib I was worried about this guy
Arnold Schwarzenegger reveals he built a smoking tent outside his Capitol office to bypass laws and negotiate deals with lawmakers
"The law says that you have to be 20 feet away from the building."
"I have an atrium where my office is, and we have measured 20 feet away from the of this atrium. And we're building a tent. We built a tent that is big enough so we can have inside meetings and everything like that, and we're going to smoke our cigars in there."
"They sent me a bill to forbid smoking in a smoking tent. And so, of course, I didn't sign it. I vetoed it."
"Democrats and other legislators came down and asked me, begged me, 'Can I come down and smoke?' And that's how I got most of my deals done."
"They came down to smoke, and we found something in common, which is smoking. We smoked our stogies, took our jackets off, took our ties off, and we were sitting there and saying, 'What are you working on?'"
"And so we started working together, and I was able to sign more of their legislation because they were not stubborn about how they wrote the legislation. We got a lot of things done because of the smoking tent."
