Happy Pythagorean Theorem Day!

10/24/26

10² + 24² = 26²

This is the last one we’ll experience in our lifetime.

Honestly, the man in this comic kind of deserves this. If someone rejects you (even a "soft rejection" like this, stop trying. Step back from the attachment entirely if that will help. This goes for both men and women.
Please, let's just be friends

⚠️ Python packages are vulnerable to remote code execution via the same node2shell CVE-2026-111497.

You may be affected if you are using the Brotli library. Note this is a very popular dependency (⬇️100m/month)

Other major services likely affected. We will communicate ASAP when detects this. Patches available.

This is basically the entirety of my current work wardrobe. It's just cargo pants and black T-shirts. I could probably use an upgrade.

This stupid idea that you have to have used some random specific library in order to get a job in software. The entire industry is the same job.

It's like only working with Mechanical Engineers who have designed something orange.

I think a lot of HR departments are worse than useless in that they actively hinder the work a hiring manager is trying to do. Perhaps HR should have people in the actual business rotate in to HR roles so HR doesn't become the mess it currently is.

I don't think I've ever seen this phenomenon explained so clearly. And I'm an example of it myself. I literally have a complete life with no room for anyone else (or need for anyone).
People are surprised they build a life of their own to then realise they cornered themselves in routines that are going to keep themselves alone.

And the person who would supposedly join them have not contributed much if anything to the edifice, so it is harder to build ory and last but not least meaning to a union.

So not only do people get the older, close to mid life stage individuals who are run down emotionally from all of the effort they undertook by themselves to get there, but the energy reeks of desperation, so for all of the tangible wins, it feels like an intangible L getting with that person.

This is how things should be. This idea that love, lust, and friendship should be disjoint is stupid. We should not quickly and permanently friendzone every friend we make.
2. Over 70 percent of people say they’ve fallen in love with someone they knew first as a friend or colleague, and nearly half (49 percent; 44% of men and 52% of women) say they fell in love with someone they didn’t initially think it could happen with.

All of the replies to this basically summarize how I think whenever any woman shows any interest in me. Lots of things are too good to be true.
OPENAI to EMPLOYEES: If someone is trying to seduce you, first consider — could they be a spy???

OpenAI is warning its employees about honeypot spies and strangers with children in playgrounds ... a very fun one with @georgia_wells and @MeghanBobrowsky:

Four rotors turn raw thrust into coordinated flight by solving a single elegant equation on the rotation group.

The vehicle’s motion is governed by
m v̇ = −τ R e₃ + m g e₃
together with the rigid-body equation
J Ω̇ + Ω × J Ω = M.
Position and velocity errors are ordinary rror is the vee map
e_R = ½ (R_Cᵀ R − Rᵀ R_C)∨
that lives directly on SO(3).

A thrust command
τ = −(−k_x e_x − k_v e_v − m g e₃ + m ẍ_d) · R e₃
and a moment command that cancels Coriolis terms and drives both e_R and e_Ω to zero close the loop. The four motor forces are then recovered by the linear allocation matrix, so the abstract geometric commands become physical rotor speeds.

The mathematics does not approximate the sphere; it works on the sphere itself.

At some point, every single human must realize that they can't have it all and must either choose their priorities or let them be chosen for them. The path that is easiest and offers the least resistance is not always the best one.

The optimality of the packing for 11 squares has been formalized in lean thanks to Astra and Claude! Huge thanks to @ojoshe, @kleddamag, @wand_125, @guzhou0806, and @ctjlewis for aiding in the process.
