Team Putin is using all available channels to communicate that Russia has been and will be ready for peace with Ukraine. That's part of Russian warfare -- meant to weaken Western support for Ukraine. The truth is that Russia only accepts Ukraine's surrender.

The view that Ukraine is wrong to defend itself against Russia’s invasion is the dumbest view ever to attract so many followers. Hall of Fame stupidity. It makes every other stupid opinion look like infinite wisdom. Worthy of a Nobel Prize for stupidity.

Let me explain something. For any "peace plan", one needs consent from ALL parties, including those expected to assume obligations under it (Europe). No such consent ever existed. I might as well claim that I had a peace plan, yet it was rejected as nobody even knew about it
Max Seddon’s @maxseddon “The Putin Whisperers” @FT is gripping, richly reported and deserving of the attention it is receiving.
I finished it impressed but with 1 central question: why did Matthias Warnig, portrayed as Putin’s trusted friend and the channel’s indispensable link, speak so candidly now, and on whose terms? The channel may have been real, but strongest claims, including that it helped defuse a nuclear crisis and that a more favourable peace was within reach, rely heavily on recollections from people with their own stakes. Warnig’s account also supports a narrative useful to the Kremlin: Putin was open to peace, while Washington and Kyiv failed to act.
The evidence establishes that these contacts existed and that participants believed they might influence events. The broader conclusions, that the channel defused a nuclear crisis or that a better peace was available, remain interpretations built from contested recollections rather than independently demonstrated facts. That distinction matters because Warnig’s account also advances a Kremlin-friendly narrative: Putin was open to peace, while Washington and Kyiv failed to act. It does not prove coordination or fabrication, but it makes the sourcing, incentives and corroboration essential to assessing both the evidence and the story being built from it.

SCOOP:
I just spoke with an official at the center of the negotiations to release American hostages held by Russia and I’m told the number of Americans Russia is holding hostage is actually 22, not 8 as was previously reported following the release of Robert Gilman and Stephen Hubbard.
There needs to be more of an effort in my opinion by the Trump administration to be tougher of Vladimir Putin, who is objectively the most barbaric in a comparison between himself and @ZelenskyyUa.
How many Americans is Ukraine holding hostage?
I believe the number is zero.

“Russia invaded Ukraine, committed atrocities in the territories it occupied, and when it failed to force the government to fall or achieve its aims on the battlefield, began targeting civilians, seeking to terrorize the population into accepting Russian domination. The first Trump Administration shook off the Obama Administration’s reticence to assist and admirably sent both weapons and military trainers to help Ukraine. After the full-scale invasion in 2022, the Biden Administration orchestrated a herculean international effort to assist Ukraine, which the Trump Administration has abandoned.”-@KoriSchake @AEI aei.org/foreign-and-de…

Ukrainians keep showing enormous courage in defending their country against Putin’s immoral and indeed evil efforts to conquer a neighbor. They have resisted now for four years and eight months and we should do all we can to help them.

Disappointingly, Starshield still doesn’t work well and seems to cut out for units above 160kmh. The improvement observed earlier today seems inconsistent and unstable.

Vance, contradicting Rubio and Hegseth, suggests Musk would not have acted without White House direction.
VP Vance: “I think that fundamentally, Elon Musk runs a private corporation, and I think it's completely understandable that he doesn't want to get in the middle of what is a war between two state actors /without the United States government effectively directing him on what to do./ So I don't think this is about Elon. I think it's fundamentally what is America's policy in Ukraine and Russia going to be.

The first question should be why an American citizen was imprisoned by the Russian regime, and whether this might have anything to do with the approach taken by the US negotiating delegation toward Russia
Should the Special Envoy have insulted the man, imperiled the release of an American citizen, and torched any possibility of finally resolving a war that has gone on for far too long?
These things are complicated. This is why you’re not a negotiator.
