When I joined @dhaliwas on this journey 11 years ago it was to build *the* haven for technical founders. Nothing has changed except we have far more resources than I ever imagined to help the people we’re built to serve.
New funds, new look, same Amplify. Announcing our $900M 6th set of funds, our first ever digital bio fund, and our new logo and site. The first (and best) investor for technical founders.

There seems to be widespread understanding that the inference market is huge & growing but more limited understanding of how technically challenging it is to support low-latency, highly reliable inference at scale. Go rebuild k8s in a weekend; hope your coding agent had its coffee.

Feels like going back in time to the opportunity when we started Amplify. Incredibly exciting to watch.
We've been busy at Amplify Bio!
It's a privilege to be in business with the technical founders transforming the life sciences.
And, personally, it's a privilege to work alongside this team every day. If you've spent time with Sunil, David, Luke, or Madelyn, you'll know exactly ven't, we've got a whole slate of programming intentionally designed for this ecosystem in the New Year, so we'll see you there!

Voice models *should* run on-device (for privacy and latency reasons); very excited by the OSS release of Phonon
A new frontier for on-device speech.
We're open-sourcing Phonon, a suite of TTS models under 50m parameters, setting a new standard for naturalness and accuracy across languages, with the broadest inference support to date.
Phonon-31m is available under Apache 2.0.

No group in history has ever worked harder to destroy their good fortune more than the Unions in California. The ultimate Scorpion.
Asset seizure tax destroying California
You can bet they will keep trying to do it because it’s all the same goal: eat the Golden Goose
Better off just enjoying unlimited golden eggs but no, gotta eat that goose

Are we still debating the merits of capitalism v communism? Feels QED to me
Actually capitalism has largely solved hunger as the result of non-man made scarcity and poverty. And it’s made remarkable progress on curing infections. What has Communism ever accomplished that capitalism didn’t do markedly better and sooner?

Future HoFer @darrellgreen28 did this years ago when I was a kid. The next year there was a line down the block of kids waiting for autographs. This was during their Super Bowl run season. Just an amazing guy.
Troy Aikman says he forgot Halloween candy and handed out autographed cards instead, then remembered the candy the next year and somehow disappointed the kids
Aikman: “One year for Halloween, I got home from practice. I was single, was at the house, totally forgot it was sudden, I had kids coming to my door. I had no candy.”
“And I was like, ‘Oh man,’ I felt like an absolute loser. So these card companies would send me my football cards, and it’s all I could think of. So I pull out these cards and I just signed them for the kids as they came to the door, sign a card and hand it to them.”
Dale: “They’re kids and that’s normally who wants those.”
Aikman: “Yeah. And so then the next year I got smart and I was prepared and I had candy. And then I had more kids that came to my door than I had the year before, and I’m handing them out candy, and they’re like, ‘Oh man, we want the autographed football card.”

This is an odd headline. Why would raising more money cause the Partners at Benchmark to dislike each other? In fact, I’d argue one of the (many) benefits of a small, equal partnership is that you CAN be friends with your partners.
Benchmark may have grown its funds and swapped out some partners, but onstage the five who are left sounded like friends who just happen to be running one of the Valley’s most storied firms

One last bit of Modal trivia: @bernhardsson had an offer to join Snowflake among the first 10 employees.
To all those folks lamenting that they didn’t join Cursor, Mercor, etc. Don’t. Just build.

I've sent a version of this to 10+ founders this month alone. Just because you can use AI, doesn't always mean you should
"Allow me to give some unsolicited advice: Investors are drowning in AI-generated cold emails and pitch decks. It is almost an automatic "delete-without-response" for me. It doesn't convey craft, or care in what you are building and comes across as low effort. I'd humbly suggest making your materials manually to ensure they best communicate your ideas in your voice. Others might disagree, so take this as a data point."

I am thrilled to tell you that Swamp Club has raised $7m in seed funding from @AmplifyPartners, Encoded Ventures, @jesserobbins, and @stolinski. Swamp is a platform for building AI systems from repeatable behaviors, rather than from token-hungry agent-centric designs. More money (which I'm stoked about,) or the product itself (which continues to surprise and delight me every day,) is the incredible group of people who have started solving real, practical, everyday problems with Swamp. They teach me new and exciting things about how to build with AI every day.
I'm grateful to my co-founders, who have poured every ounce of their creativity, passion, and intelligence into Swamp. I'm grateful to our users and customers (big and small) - there is no greater gift you can give to an entrepreneur than the validation that comes with voting with your wallets. And I'm grateful to our investors, who see the opportunity we see, and want to make it happen with us. It's such a cliche to say that there has never been a better time to build - but really, it feels like there has never been a better time to build. Come join the Club.

Today we're announcing that Modal has crossed $1B in annualized run rate, as well as raised a $750M Series D at a $15.75B valuation, led by @Accel.
Since our Series C, usage has tripled and we’ve grown more than 15x year-over-year.
We are deeply grateful to the developers and odal. There's still so much more to build, and we can't think of a better time to be building software.

“when Israeli military actions led captors to kill their hostages.” Nasty work from CNN. I’m not sure “Israel should have known if they tried to rescue civilian hostages, we’d happily slit their throats or use them as human shields” is quite the exoneration they think it is.
We found 24/40 deaths can be traced back to Israeli military actions. That includes direct IDF strikes/gunfire, but also when Israeli military actions led captors to kill their hostages. That's not just us saying that: the IDF has acknowledged that in many of these cases /2

This article reminds me of the apocryphal story of Joe Kennedy selling all his stocks after getting a stock tip from the shoeshine boy.
