Reinventing yourself is probably the most valuable skill over the next 5 years. I think there are very few things in life that you can do forever.

I say this while thinking about AI assisted coding which over the last year, has made me really consider what the heck am I doing. I was reluctant for a long time. I discounted AI coding skills thinking "it's just english, I don't need to learn it"

But now, I think discounting new skills was really me just being nostalgic of how devs used to code. I loved those times. But now that I'm a little more accepting, I've been having a blast trying to merge new skills into my old skills so that they coexist rather than conflict. The realization being why not do both.

It looks different for everyone. But this is how I'm thinking right now.

End braindump.

@codegirl007 Actually you (me and many others) were reluctant cuz the models were genuinely not great for a lot of work. Only after gpt 5.5 the models got decent and opus 5.5 is the first model that I can actually kind of trust for things

@codegirl007 I'm actually pretty surprised at how many people are having trouble adapting to it, that are genuinely trying. I know that there's always some closest nerds that don't want to, but I mean people that actually want to.
