Build something agents want... but that a human would never want.

This weekend (Oct 17-18), we're co-hosting a hackathon at @ycombinator in SF, with @supabase, @stripe, @ArmatureYCP26, @inkbox_ai, @manufact, @primitive & @ins@insforgee're offering up to $1,000 in prizes + credlow ⬇️

"The future is people using the closed frontier, open frontier, and then a long tail of post-trained models that are task-specific. Then the problem shifts to infrastructure: how do you run all this in production?"

Our CEO @tuhinone sat down with @Sachin_and_Adam to talk about open vs. closed models, owning your intelligence, and the launch of our open research lab, Base Labs.
Exclusive: Inside @baseten

The $13B startup at the centre of the biggest fight in AI - Open vs Closed.

We spent a day at their SF HQ with co-founder & CEO Tuhin Srivastava, Charlie O'Neill, Mudith Jayasekara and the Base Labs team - to understand why they're building an open ecosCs led by @saranormous @altcap @apoorv03 @wmccarthy11 @saammotamedi @nikiscevak @lachygroom @willreed + more. Plus participation from @nvidia.

Observation 2: @blaxelAI is the best performing sandbox for development setup tasks like cloning and installing deps for a large monorepo.

They clone and install deps for the large @mastra monorepo at p50 of 39.9 seconds! This is critical for CI/CD workloads.

As a proud launch partner for the NVIDIA Open Agent Safety Platform, we're committed to making sure the agentic workloads of tomorrow are secured across all 3 levels of the stack: the app, runtime, and infra layers.

Carbon, our newest sandbox infra generation, lets you run NVIDIA OpenShell to secure the runtime from inside, while Blaxel's networking infrastructure secures workloads from outside the sandbox.

We built a deployment template if you want to try it today ⬇️

We're proud to be a launch partner for the NVIDIA Open Agent Safety Platform and a member of the Open Secure AI Alliance.

Baseten is committed to contributing to the open frontier, including open safety standards and frameworks for inference and training. Two weeks ago, we launched our safety infrastructure research effort with Base Labs.

Today, we've contributed to OpenShell and built a template to run it inside our sandboxes. Much more to come.
Today, with over 100 industry partners, we introduced the NVIDIA Open Agent Safety Platform, bringing together OpenShell and Sentry.

Artificial intelligence is extraordinary technology that will advance discovery, productivity, security, health, and prosperity for generations to mise can only be realized when people have confidence that AI is being built to be safe and deployed with wisdom and responsibility.

This is bigger than a single product. It's the beginning of an open ecosystem to build the trust layer for safe agent systems.

Together, we are building the foundation of the AI economy.

Trust and innovation are not in conflict. Safety is how trust is earned. We must build not only the most capable AI, but the most trusted AI, so that this extraordinary technology can realize its enormous promise for the world. nvda.ws/4hcoq7m

New on Blaxel: sandbox archiving 🧊

When you archive a sandbox, only the filesystem is preserved (not the memory), in a colder storage tier. Built for sessions that seldom need to be restored.

We just shipped a (much) better CMD+K on Blaxel.

for the humans still using the console: you should navigate noticeably faster

Try it and let me know what you think, open to your feedback on what capabilities matter most

A sandbox keeps your coding agent safe. But you still need to make sure the code is right.

We partnered with @RippletideCo to break it down: allow, block, escalate.

Why you need both sandboxes and a decision layer? Isolate agent execution + steer the behavior = get the job done

Good article with the @blaxelAI team on how to set up this combo

Good luck F26!

iced coffee was on us today. the caliber is honestly insane, these companies look so much further along at day one than our batch was

.@reasonmachines built an autonomous software engineer that opens and merges PRs without the developer ever touching the app.

That requires a runtime that matches the model: sandboxes that resume in 1 second, hold state between tool calls, and auto-suspend during reasoning gaps.

How it works:

-> You create a session, get back an environment ID and a URL
-> A Blaxel sandbox runs codex exec-server and opens one outbound connection to OpenAI
-> Agent starts once that connection is live, nothing needs to be reachable from outside

Sandboxes wake up in ~25ms, and keep their filesystem and dependencies across reconnects.

Blaxel is one of the official sandbox providers in OpenAI’s new Agents API.

OpenAI’s managed Codex harness runs the agent: sessions, orchestration, recovery, context compaction.

Blaxel runs where the work happens: shell commands, file edits, MCP servers.
Go from idea to a working agent faster with the Agents API.

Build and run cloud agents with the Codex harness, fully managed by OpenAI.

We handle orchestration, long-running sessions, and context management. You focus on what makes your agent unique.

Available in public beta.
