SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026)

Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he hiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.

We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we werenโ€™t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. โ€œBut Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to riskโ€”getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?โ€. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in Londonโ€™s West End and on Broadway.

America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.

His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen.

FOUR(!!!) MTL patches for TwiSyn released recently. Not only are they badly translated by AI and misrepresent the original (one even got the game's title itself wrong) but the creators of hit-and-run AI patches miss the point and are the current scourge of the FanTL scene. (1/5)
I suppose a targeted retweet considering recent events but if you're happy playing an AI MTL of a game and Daddy Claude can't even translate the title correctly then you may have a hole in your brain ๐Ÿ˜€

It's to chase a perceived high, that they've achieved something, even though a computer did the work, not them, and they're just down a few bucks in tokens.

I've seen with passionate friends the depression and demotivation these rush jobs cause. Many have quit the scene. (4/5)

I hope forums like the woefully-run RGT could get their finger out, where half the projects on there are lazy, buggy MTL of games.

What does this mean for the translation? This was always just a hobby for me, one I'm considering dropping. For now, I work on other things.

Looking for hobbyist J->E translators to work on the second Twilight Syndrome.

The first game is fully translated (editing WIP) but I'm getting too busy with work to handle the second game alone.
No hacking knowledge needed, we have web tools. Shoot me a DM if interested!

Also finished "The Third Force: A Novel of GADGET" by Marc Laidlaw (of Half-Life fame) and it's proved to be a nice surprise. I love the game Gadget and this book not only acts as a beautiful companion piece/novelisation but as a great work of apocalyptic dream-like sci-fi. Cont.

The novel itself is fast-paced, atmospheric, maintaining the air the original PC game had whilst focusing on the characters that were obscured previously, some who didn't appear in the game. It operates like a dream that turns into a nightmare in a dictated, doomed society.

All in all, I recommend reading it. I mean, I'd recommend playing the original game first, it's fantastic.

I hope a new work related to "Gadget" comes out eventually, whether a fan work or official one. It's a fascinating universe of machines, dreams and control.
