U.S. Spot Ethereum ETFs Hit Record 23-Day Net Outflow Streak Since Launch

On-chain analytics firm Glassnode reported that U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs have recorded 23 consecutive trading days of net outflows, marking their longest streak since launch. Glassnode said the sustained kening demand from traditional finance investors, who had accumulated ETH heavily in August and September.

Why do second movers have an edge in AI?

@tarunchitra: “In AI, there’s a real thing to second mover advantage in that you learn a lot from the mistakes of the first mover.

You could argue that Claude getting a high uptake was because it was easier to use and it had more that the average person who’s not technical could kind of make a product with it...

But why did Anthropic have this opportunity? They learned from the lessons of OpenAI.”

@Delphi_Digital @tarunchitra In financial infrastructure the second mover also inherits the regulatory map the first mover had to draw. That's often worth more than the product lessons.

50 companies have now told OKX and ICE not to tokenize their stock. This week, one company may try it the other way.

Under the SEC's Innovation Exemption, listed companies get 30 days to object to a venue offering tokens of their shares. OKXICE's Oct 30 notice lists 50 objectors, including Nvidia and Costco. It first proposed 62 companies.

What we're watching, Nov 2-6:
• Canton Strategic (Nasdaq: CNTN) targets as early as Mon Nov 2 for issuer-sponsored tokens on TSV, with Fairmint as onchain transfer agent. TSV's notice says it hasn't started operating yet.
• Hong Kong FinTech Week puts its two licensed stablecoin issuers, Anchorpoint and HSBC, on one panel Monday.
• Tuesday: @VanessaGrellet_ speaks on a SALT London panel.

Why it matters: an objection only blocks one venue. Issuer-sponsored tokens turn the question from permission into demand.

Will issuer-led tokens become the default for US stocks, or stay a small-cap experiment?

Y Combinator just listed what it wants to fund in crypto. Retail speculation isn't on it.

@ycombinator's October Crypto Request for Startups, shared Oct 28 by visiting partner @nemild, names six areas:
• Blockchain-based capital raising for AI
• Dollar and other-currency stablecoins
• Neobanks for underserved contractors and businesses
• Tokenized real-world assets
• Trading platforms
• Financial APIs built for AI agents

The premise: this was the first year crypto uptake was led by institutions rather than consumers.

What stands out to us: distribution is written into the ask. Stablecoin founders have to name the customer and how they'll reach them.

Winter 2027 applications are due Nov 2. Which of the six is most underbuilt today?

ICE has reposted its announcement that it plans to bring Hyperliquid-based perps to the U.S. with Trade[XYZ], after deleting its original post last night, prompting mild panic on X that the partnership had somehow been canceled.

The new version puts more emphasis on the caveats: ICE “plans to” launch the markets, subject to regulatory approvals.

Legal team probably just being extra cautious.

Stablecoin freezes act on addresses. Exploiters are routing around them.

@chainalysis is tracking Binance exploit funds deposited into DeFi protocols, then claimed back on new, clean addresses, a method already seen on Tron.

Why it matters: a freeze only works on an address that has been flagged. A deposit that comes back out somewhere new resets the trail, so the speed of tracing becomes the control.

Should DeFi protocols screen withdrawals, or should that stay with issuers?

Arche is an investor in Chainalysis.
The Binance exploiters are rushing to stay a step of stablecoin freezes. One method we’re tracking involves stashing their stablecoins in DeFi protocols. Then claiming them back on new, clean addresses.

This method has been used on the Tron blockchain since the early hours of . It involves swapping TRX for stablecoins, then exchanging those stablecoins for depository receipt tokens. Unlike the stablecons they represent, these receipt tokens cannot be frozen. But they can be exchanged for the stablecoins they represent by whomever holds them. That’s an edge for prospective hackers and money launderers. Especially North Korean threat actors, who have used this method on other heists, too.

Here's how North Korea's TraderTraitor group moved $500K. Step by step.

Step 1: Start with TRX. The hackers moved TRX into a swap wallet, positioning the funds for the next stage of the laundering process.

Step 2: Swap into stablecoins. The hackers converted TRX into stablecoins through a DeFi exchange. The stablecoin offers liquidity and stability, with a catch: risk of freezing. The longer you hold illicit funds in stablecoins, the more likely its centralized issuer freezes your tokens. Circle and Tether have already contributed to $2.8 billion in freezes so far. This creates a critical vulnerability for the hackers and a potential intervention point for investigators. This is a dilemma for hackers — how to exploit stablecoin liquidity without the risk of freezing.

Steps 3 and 4: Move the stablecoins: To solve the dilemma, the hackers moved the stablecoins and deposited them in a DeFi lending protocol. In return, they received a deposit token that could not be frozen. Rather than holding stablecoin directly, they now held a token representing a claim on pooled assets. They can now transfer the claim to the asset without risking a freeze.

Steps 5 and 6: Move the claims token: The hacker moved their claim tokens to a new, clean wallet that was not tainted by association. That new wallet then converted the deposit token back to stablecoin.

Steps 7 and 8: Bridge the funds. The hackers then exfiltrated their assets from the Tron blockchain via a bridge, swapping freezable stablecoins on one side with unfreezable ETH on the other. Now the exploiter is free of worry of a freeze.

Of course, exchanging stablecoins for ETH does not make the hackers bulletproof. Chainalysis investigators analyze patterns like this to keep up with the hackers in real-time. We will continue to monitor how the blockchain is used and misused.
