Yes, part of why tariffs are worse than general taxation (theft).
This is why Trump loves tariffs -- he gets to play Caesar. It enables his "personalist" rule. Economic policy does not govern the situation; personal whim, does. We need a party that reflects the principles and values of the American conservative tradition.

These are not transfers from the US, but from other countries. The US is now actively sabotaging Ukrainian defense of civilians.
Breaking news: The Trump administration has not approved the transfer of interceptor missiles to Ukraine that are needed to protect the country from Russian attacks, officials said, a delay that comes as President Trump has embraced Russia in recent weeks. wapo.st/4yCb7T7

“The New Right judges American conservatism by its failures and Europe’s alternatives by their promises, then calls importing them ‘America First.’”
Excellent.
Excellent.
Want to know what American conservatism/exceptionalism conserved?
Look no further than where it never existed but the New Right has: Europe.
The European right got the deal today’s postliberals want.
Christian Democrats ruled Italy, West Germany, and Austria for decades. Franco held Spain for 36 years, Salazar’s regime held Portugal for 4 decades, and Ireland wrote the Church into its constitution. Faith and family had the state behind them.
They conserved a Western Europe that is now among the least religious places on earth. The lowest birthrates on the continent sit in the countries with the deepest Catholic politics.
Spain, 4 decades of National Catholicism later, has the 2nd lowest birthrate in the EU. Italy’s Christian Democrats governed for nearly 50 years and left behind a pension state.
The family wage they promised never arrived.
Give the state the job of protecting faith and family and they get protected for exactly as long as it pays politically to protect them.
American conservatives created a jurisdictional guardian instead. The Founders barred Washington from establishing a national church, so faith never answered to whoever held federal power.
Divide power, protect property, keep markets open, and leave churches, families and states to run their own affairs. Reaganism revived it.
That order also built the largest economy and strongest military on earth, in a country where people still go to church.
What exactly makes the European record a reason to abandon those principles?
The New Right judges American conservatism by its failures and Europe’s alternatives by their promises, then calls importing them “America First.”

For some reason I had missed that Vermeule is an unabashed communist.
The conservative justice seems to favor the kind of results-oriented judging that originalists are supposed to oppose.

Alito's critique of "insecure originalism" appears to have neither the rhetorical pull nor the persuasive power of @RandyEBarnett 's critique of "faint-hearted originalism" two decades ago
Interesting look into Alito's mind: he's personally unable to control his conservative bias, so when he sees other conservatives set aside their conservative biases and follow the law to a liberal result, he thinks they have a bias towards moderation!

Perfect question from that reporter
Reporter: "Attorney General, on your Facebook page three days ago, you wrote, ‘What this young woman has been forced to endure is horrific and unacceptable. I'm holding her in my heart and in my prayers. To her and to all survivors, you're not alone. We stand with you.’ Why did ons as fact without doing your own fact-finding investigation? And to the governor, why did you appoint an official who made a public statement affirming those allegations as fact as someone who's supposed to be doing an investigation?”
New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D): “I will answer that. I have every confidence in our Attorney General to do what she has always done. Look at the facts, examine the record, and draw the proper conclusions. That's exactly what's going to happen in this case. Attorney General, please.”
New York Attorney General Letitia James: “I will not comment on a Facebook post.”
Great question!

Need to work better on their identitarian branding and to join the ALSAs anti-speech coalition
Conservative students at Cal Irving Law invited @ishapiro, one of America’s leading constitutional scholars, to a luncheon legal debate.
Naturally, a Star Wars bar of leftwing kids throw a temper-tantrum.
Because leftists are scared to debate.
Appropriate response?
Fuck off.

My salute to the Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar for his extraordinary bravery.
Despite being stabbed and seriously injured, he fought back, resisted, opened the cockpit door, and enabled passengers and crew to overpower the attacker — preventing a catastrophic mid-air disaster.
He saved the lives of 174 people, including Israeli citizens and other nationals.
I wish Captain Machchhar a speedy and full recovery.
He is a true hero.

Maybe Rufo says something beyond the approbatory head nodding on this clip, but if not, it’s pretty pitiful that he doesn’t even push back on the false choice (you must prefer racial homogeneity or racial diversity) offered here. Colorblind individualism was once his thing.
This week, @christopherrufo tackle the Indian Question.
Among other things, this episode cuts to the heart of longstanding foundational political disputes that are simply unreconcilable, but which can longer be brushed aside. Namely that some people (perhaps most people) prefer society, and as America tips toward a majority-minority country, that fundamental preference is under threat.
For a long time, liberals, who have more cosmopolitan preferences, have been able to pathologize the desire for homogeneity and subdue any explicit political effort to maintain a white majority in the country.
A great many conservatives are no longer willing to be silent on this question. They are going to actively assert their preferences, and Indians, while relatively small in total number are nonetheless the fasting growing foreign born demographic in the country and the most conspicuous element of the 21st century mass immigration regime, and are therefore the inevitable flashpoint for this debate.
*This episode we also took input from our Indian/South Asian friends @balajis, @razibkhan, @Indian_Bronson, and a secret 4th Indian.

This is a consequence of rejecting, as Vance does, the very concept of a private / public distinction. It's fundamentally a leftist view incompatible with the American constitutional conception: natural rights preexist government.
@JDVance And I mean that: he really does want to raise our taxes, because he thinks the money from tax cuts is used by rich people to do things he doesn't like. And those rich people are "our enemies" in the classic postliberal sense.

This is not far from a dream fact pattern for someone litigating this edge of First Amendment cases. Upstanding public figure, fleeting expletive in empathy with a fellow QB who just suffered a nasty injury, and apology a second later.
I watched this. Tom Brady is a terrific broadcaster. I learn a lot watching him. A true professional and expert. And he reacted in real time to the ugly injury of Jayden Daniels by blurting out "sh*t." He immediately apologized, within a nano-second. He does not deserve to be fined. It was utterly unintentional.

And also, Lee took a shitload of criticism for that opinion beyond just Patrice, so the intimation that R-appointees are somehow immune from stylistic criticism is very wrong.

Great joint effort with @MGMonforton . A key passage:
First Amendment victory today for @HamLincLaw in the District of Montana, winning a preliminary injunction against an anti-deepfake bill making it a crime to portray politicians using AI.
