The dissonant antizionist view that it was good for the Jews to resist genocide in 1943 and bad in 1948.
I like Brad Lander but left-liberal Zionism has way too much cognitive dissonance.

I get it, elected officials are not going to applaud violence, but you can’t frequently tout the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising and then act like the deaths of occupiers in the West Bank is a tragedy.

I dunno, I think it’s fine to ask a candidate for the U.S. Senate about this sort of thing.
I think the reaction I have to this is the normal-person reaction: It's preposterous to suggest the candidate who thinks sex changes for prisoners are a civil right is also a secret Islamist

Build the northern wall.
New 30 km/h area speed limit signs will be posted at neighbourhood entry and exit points. Once you enter a signed area, the 30 km/h speed limit applies throughout the local road network until you leave that area.

Slower speeds help reduce the risk of serious collisions and make afer.

Trump has been in the public discourse for over a decade. How do people not yet understand that he’s not a reliable narrator and never admits defeat or wrongdoing or the suggestion defeat is likely? He knows he doesn’t have 60% approval.
He is delusional.

The lawyers won’t get 1.8 million here. But the defendant is paying about 50 cents a class member, and the lawyers are getting 48 cents of it.

Either the case is bogus (in which case, an innocent defendant is getting extorted, raising prices to consumers) or the class’s claims are being sold out so the lawyers can pay themselves.

And this analysis doesn’t even mention that the lawyers have a fiduciary duty to the class members that every state bar and nearly every judge ignores when it gets violated.
@erat_perfects@tedfranke against scams” like a claims-made settlement lmaoooo.

Here’s the reality. Companies can pay 2M to settle on a common fund basis and the split would be 1.4 to the class and 600k to the lawyers.

Or they can budget 2M to settle on a claims made basis, knowing only 3-7% of the class will make a claim max. The difference is the plaintiffs lawyers will pretend that the settlement is worth 10x that based on a completely fake assumption that 100% of the class will make a claim. And then they use that to double/multiply their attorneys’ fee demand. So you ended up in a situation where the class gets some range between 50-200k and attorneys get 1.8M

Either way, the company is paying 2M. But the claims made structure multiplies the plaintiffs’ lawyers payout to the prejudice of the class.

Same reaction -- FINALLY someone acknowledged a long-time point made by Justice Scalia. Too many "procedural" DP claims are actually dressed up "substantive" DP claims without the simple answer urged by the petitioner upon the Court.

Too many judges don't recognize the difference.

Palestinians have no right to harm IDF soldiers;
there is no such thing as a "right to resist" it does not exist under any relevant international law.
According to international law—to which the Palestinians are signatories—the very existence of any Palestinian armed force other than the Palestinian Authority police is illegal, and the IDF has a free hand to dismantle it.

$800,000 for the attorneys and $38,633 for the class. The lawyers will lie and tell the court it’s a “$2 million” settlement because that’s what was “made available,” though everyone knew there wouldn’t be that many claims and the settlement was designed solely to pay lawyers.

Objection deadline was July though, and none of the 1.8M class members contacted @HamLincLaw to object—not that California state courts are likely to care.
🚨🎮 UBISOFT'S $2 MILLION SETTLEMENT. GAMERS CLAIMED JUST $38,633!

Gamers, this is interesting. Very interesting. 🤔

Remember The Crew? The racing game Ubisoft shut down in 2024, leaving people who purchased it unable to play?

Um, that decision led to a class-action lawsuit, and now we're getting a closer look at the numbers.

According to an October 16 court filing, Ubisoft established a $2 million settlement fund for affected consumers.

Now things get interesting.

Approximately 1.8 MILLION people were included in the settlement class. Yet only 2,951 valid claims were submitted, totaling $38,633 in cash and Ubisoft store credit.

Meanwhile, the attorneys are requesting $800,000 in fees, plus litigation expenses.

Before you start sharpening your pitchforks, the attorney fees would be paid separately by Ubisoft, not deducted from the $2 million consumer fund. And the court hasn't approved them yet.

But seriously..

$2 MILLION AVAILABLE. $38,633 CLAIMED.

That's less than 2% of the available funds.

This part bothers me.

The lawsuit wasn't simply about getting a few bucks back. It challenged what consumers were led to believe they were purchasing in the first place.

Ubisoft shut down the servers. The game became unplayable. And the people who purchased it were left with a product they could no longer use.

The proposed settlement offers qualifying claimants $7 in cash or $15 in Ubisoft store credit.

One question.

HOW DOES THAT BRING THE GAME BACK?

It doesn't.

And that's the bigger problem with digital ownership. We keep having the same discussions about compensation AFTER access disappears, rather than protecting consumers BEFORE it happens.

To be fair, Ubisoft denies wrongdoing, and the settlement still requires final court approval. The hearing is scheduled for November 13.

All this deserves a much larger conversation.

When you purchase a game, should a publisher have the ability to make that game permanently unplayable simply because maintaining its servers is no longer part of the business plan?

And if that happens, is a few dollars really a fair remedy?

I'm curious what you think. This isn't only about Ubisoft anymore. It's about the future of the games we're all paying for.

Great essay by J. Menashi on J. Alito's new book--and I'm honored that my @GeorgetownJLPP article gets a mention.

Origianlism is "our law." But things don't have to be this way. It is not unoriginalist to point out, as Justice Alito has, that originalism is good--for stability, restraint, etc. Those are normative arguments that contributed to origianlism's acceptance--i.e., to its status as "our law."

In January 2025 my mom’s lung cancer spread to her brain. The drug with the best chance of helping her was approved in China but not here.

A doctor told me, almost as an aside, that if she were Chinese she could buy it at a pharmacy.

So I flew to Shanghai and came home with 26 boxes in my luggage. That was 19 months ago. My mom is still here, still working, and in her words has had an amazing three years.

The drug was approved in China in 2023. The FDA approved it in July 2025. It still is not for sale here. I know of at least 30 Americans who have made the same trip.

I have been scared to tell this story because I worried it could cost my mom access to the medicine keeping her alive. But the problem matters more than my silence. These drugs need to be developed and available here, and that means FDA reform.

Art Allen at KFF Health News told our story this week. It also ran in The Washington Post.

New from me: Georgetown Law’s Student Bar Association passed a resolution this week condemning a Jewish attorney on Sen. Ted Cruz’s staff and accusing her of Islamophobia after she appeared on campus to discuss the Muslim Brotherhood and her work representing victims of terrorism.

Erielle Azerrad, Cruz's deputy chief counsel, spoke to students about the Brotherhood’s origins and how the group had expanded its operations in the US. She also noted the Muslim Students Association’s ties to the Brotherhood, though she disputed that such ties meant all Muslim students, or even all MSA members, were connected to the terrorist group.

The resolution accused Azerrad of promoting "Islamophobic beliefs and conspiracy theories" at the event and having a "well-documented record of false, bigoted, and harmful anti-Muslim rhetoric."
