The third cohort of the Capacity Strengthening Training on the African Union Transitional Justice Policy (AUTJP) is underway in Naivasha, Kenya!
The Horn of Africa Regional Program (HARP), in collaboration with @_IJR_ and @_CSVR, has convened the 3rd cohort of the African Union licy (AUTJP) Capacity-Strengthening Training in Naivasha, Kenya, from 28–30 October 2026.
The training has brought together diverse representatives of civil society and community-Based organisations from across the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes region to further strengthen their understanding of the AUTJP and explore practical approaches to advancing transitional justice, reconciliation, and sustainable peace in their respective contexts.
For the first time, the training has also included persons with disabilities (PWDs), with Sign Language interpretation provided to support their meaningful participation. This marks an important step towards amplifying voices that are often underrepresented in transitional justice spaces and ensuring that diverse perspectives and lived experiences inform conversations on justice, reconciliation, and sustainable peace.

Dr. @Le_grin_grin (@_AfricanUnion – @IOMatAU Migration Ambassador for Central Africa and Advocacy Specialist at the @_CSVR) stressed that protecting migrants’ rights requires more than stating that migrants do not lose their rights when they cross a border.
It requires tect those #rights across jurisdictions. He highlighted challenges such as migrant workers losing access to social security contributions and savings after deportation, trafficking cases becoming difficult to address when jurisdictions and authorities fail to coordinate, and gaps in protection when migrants move between countries.
He called on #civilsociety to link legal aid providers across countries of origin, transit and destination, make greater use of binding legal instruments and human rights mechanisms, and pursue the regionalization of #justice through regional courts and institutions.
He also urged African states to protect their citizens beyond their own borders, including through stronger consular protection, so that migrants can receive protection and assistance wherever they are.

We also looked at how GBV is changing, from femicide to tech-facilitated violence, and why responses must cross borders.
Prevention works when communities, youth, men and boys, and survivors lead.
Accountability is a practice, not a moment!

4th Southern Africa GBV Prevention Forum 🟣 Day 1 highlighted that we have the policies and commitments. What's missing is sustained, measurable action. 📋➡️Key gaps: justice and frontline services, barriers for women with disabilities.

The Unseen Trauma of Families in Search of Healing and Justice
Our latest article looks at what happens to the families left behind after femicide: the guilt, the fractured relationships, the children who grow up carrying trauma they didn't cause.

CSVR is deeply alarmed by the discovery of at least seven women's bodies in Gauteng over the past two months.
There is no place in South Africa where women are safe. Not the street, not the taxi, not home.
