Great lecture on pre op evaluation by the master teacher and educator Dr Kim Eagle. The two most important things in pre op evaluation are:
1. A good history 2. A good physical exam.

History and physical exam is the key component of a pre op evaluation. The best lecture one can hear on this topic. Thank you ⁦@keaglemd⁩ for visiting us. ⁦@MDAndersonnews⁩ ⁦@anita_deswal⁩ ⁦@EMouhayar⁩ ⁦@EKoutroumpakis⁩ ⁦@PalaskasN⁩

4. The government/press will tell you that the strikes are pushing up waiting lists and putting patients at risk.

➡️ waiting lists have been increasing over the past 13 years.

This is data from NHS England- this is Way before the strikes happened.

3. Many will say that Drs have great pensions, earn money doing private practice etc

➡️ future pensions when you're 67 wont help you buy a house, pay your rent, feed your kids
➡️ most of don't do private practice
➡️ most of us will work for free- I have covered many on calls (including New Year's Day) for free otherwise the service will collapse. I dont get paid a penny when i do this

2. When I qualified (2000) we had no debt, stayed in hospital accommodation for free

➡️ junior drs leave with 100k of debt
➡️ earn less that i did 20 yrs ago
➡️ have had a real term pay cut of 20% over the past 13 yrs

Many are struggling to afford rent.

We are losing unprecedented junior doctors to Australia, Canada, NZ. Industry. I don't think the public understands the magnitude of problem.

1. Tomorrow i will be supporting the NHS #ConsultantsStrike
About Me:
➡️ I am a cardiology consultant / professor @UHNM_NHS
➡️ i was from a working class background, i went to a state comprehensive. My dad left school at 16, mum at 12. I am the first / only member of my family to receive a higher education. I received a student grant to go to @UniofOxford. I left med school with little debt.

I could not afford to train as a doctor now.

Happy July 4th! The diversity of colors in this photograph made me think about our freedom, a democracy that considers all citizens as equals, & all the sacrifices that have led to these simple truths. Our imperfect union is still a growing. Much to be done. Freedom is precious.

Tonight, I’ve come close to tears whilst apologising to patients for the standards of care we are able to provide.

In my 22 years of being an A&E Dr, I’ve never seen things so bad. It’s the same everywhere.

I just hope patients know fault lies with politicians not NHS staff.

I am finally back to wearing a tie and a jacket . Hard to get rid of the years of traditional dressing
There was once a time I wore a suit and tie to work most days. Seeing as I haven’t worn a tie since the start of the pandemic this enormous collection is being consigned to a draw in our guest room. Not sure a charity shop would want them?
