In addition to my EMNLP conference papers, I’m excited to share two papers at the REALM 2026 workshop! 🎉
🌟 SEDIMA: Cross-Run Hierarchical Insight Memory for Evolutionary Search Agents (Spotlight paper)
SEDIMA helps evolutionary search agents learn from previous successes and failures, turning them into reusable insights that transfer across runs and problems.
📄 aclanthology.org/2026.realm-1.6…
💻 github.com/AmirAbaskohi/S…
🔄 DeepRewind: Predicting and Repairing Premature Commitments in Deep Research Agents
What happens when a deep research agent commits to a conclusion too early? DeepRewind predicts risky commitments and repairs the affected reasoning when new evidence challenges them.
🌟 DeepRewind marks a new research direction I’ve started exploring for the future of deep research agents: helping them anticipate the consequences of their research decisions, keep alternatives open, and revise conclusions as evidence evolves. I’m excited to develop this direction further and would especially love your thoughts on this paper!
📄 aclanthology.org/2026.realm-1.7…
💻 github.com/AmirAbaskohi/D…
If you’re attending EMNLP, please check out the papers and stop by our posters! My friend @DabiriAghdam will present the works.
📅 Thursday, October 29
📍 Room P1, HUNGEXPO, Budapest
🕥 10:30–11:30 and 15:30–16:30 (Budapest time)
Many thanks to my coauthors and the REALM organizers!

Blog about our ICML paper "Flatland: The Adventures of Gradient Descent with Large Step Sizes".
The folklore is to set the learning rate as large as possible without diverging. For constant step sizes this seems reasonable. But with variable step sizes, stuff gets weird!

Congratulations to UBC’s 25 new and renewed Canada Research Chairs, announced today as part of the Government of @Canada's announcement of support for science and research.
These outstanding researchers will advance knowledge and innovation across a remarkable range of fields, lbeing, cancer, aging and chronic disease, artificial intelligence, climate resilience, oceans and fisheries, advanced materials, among many other topics. Their research is helping deepen knowledge, address complex societal challenges and create new possibilities for healthier communities, more resilient environments and future scientific breakthroughs.
Today’s investment also included funding through the New Frontiers in Research Fund – Transformation Program, including two UBC researchers who are Co-PIs on projects led by researchers at other institutions. Collaboration between Canadian research institutions strengthens our national capacity to respond to our most pressing challenges, and we are grateful for these important and ongoing investments by the Government Canada to support the country’s research ecosystem.
