What an amazing initiative @ibdtweets

Can’t think of anyone better to kick off this series than @AmyOxentenkoMD.

This perspective resonates because it reflects decisions leaders face at every stage.

Depth earns trust, but adaptability sustains relevance.

For early-career t to optimize the path too quickly. Build real expertise, then explore adjacent roles, committees, & problems that stretch how you think.

For me it took paying attention to what energized me & where I could add value beyond my title. Those signals matter!

For those further along, the question becomes knowing when to go deeper versus when to widen your scope. That judgment point is where many leaders get stuck.

I’d love to hear established leaders share how they navigated these decisions so trainees and early-career colleagues can learn from those journeys.
Excited to share the first leadership quote in our new Healthcare Leadership Blueprint™ Leadership Spotlight Series.

We’re kicking off the series with a powerful reflection from @AmyOxentenkoMD that speaks to the balance between depth and breadth, curiosity, and the courage to stay open and adaptable as leaders.
This quote resonated deeply with me, both as a clinician and as a leader, and I hope it sparks reflection for you as well, no matter where you are in your career journey.

👉 Take a moment to read the quote, reflect, and share your thoughts in the comments.
How has curiosity or stepping outside your comfort zone shaped your leadership path?
Looking forward to learning from this community.

Wrapping up @AmCollegeGastro with two incredible sessions starting with “All things Nutrition” @CNewberryMD

⭐️Protein need is 1–2 g/kg/day in catabolic states
⭐️Most nutrient absorption occurs in the first 100 cm of SB
⭐️Jejunum loss tolerated; ileum loss is not (B12 + bile sorption of B12, iron, calcium, magnesium
⭐️Ileal resection length matters for fat vs bile salt management
⭐️Enteral > parenteral, but PN is appropriate when the gut cannot be used
⭐️Always perform nutritional risk stratification, regardless of chief complaint

Hepatobiliary Imaging by @Aketwaroo at @AmCollegeGastro #2ndYFC

⭐️Choose imaging based on the clinical question, not habit

⭐️ Not all pancreatic cysts need intervention. Risk-stratify first

⭐️WOPN requires time. Drain only when mature and infected/symptomatic

⭐️Obstructive CP when diagnosis unclear

⭐️Imaging guides care, but does not replace clinical judgment

Amazing kickoff to @AmCollegeGastro #2ndYFC with @DHassMD discussing “Life After Fellowship”

Some pearls from the talk:

⭐️ Define your practice goals early.
⭐️Setting and culture matter as much as pay.
⭐️Ask how work is distributed and how success is measured.
⭐️Fit > preaction comes from alignment.
⭐️Use your network. Most jobs come from people, not postings.
⭐️See volume and variation in fellowship. It shapes your judgment.
⭐️Learn from many, then build your own clinical style.
⭐️Non-clinical skills matter. Billing, QI, EMR, leadership compound.
⭐️Know billing and coding before you graduate. It protects autonomy.
