This is weak sauce. No serious person disputes that single payer would significantly reduce administrative costs!

She deserves no credit. I have met numerous Independent older women who are backing Collins because they believe Jackson is abusive and/or misogynist. A Janet Mills endorsement, especially in an ad, would have gone a long way had it not been made at the last possible juncture.
Janet Mills (finally) endorses Troy Jackson.

My mother gave me the best advice when I didn’t get something I wanted and wanted to rage: nobody remembers anything except your exit.
Graciousness and team building isn’t only a virtue, it’s smart because they’ll remember you well when another door opens. This is not that ⬇️

i listened to this podcast and it helped me understand why people listen to Zitron despite his miserable track record. he knows a fair amount of stuff! the conclusions he draws from it are usually wrong, but he can tell you like, what broadcom is, or how a GPU works. (he did not know what "API" stood for, which is kind of funny, but ultimately not disqualifying.)
it reminds me a lot of young-earth creationism. the individual creationists i've met all know more about carbon dating techniques or whatever than the average layperson, so it sounds impressive until you realize how many mental gymnastics they're doing to assemble their (often correct) object-level facts into a totally incoherent worldview.

“Is this just a big circle jerk?” Jon welcomes Ed Zitron (@edzitron), host of the podcast Better Offline, to make sense of the financial house of cards propping up AI and big tech. New pod out now!

umm we don't know yet if (I think it's when) the bubble will burst;
certainly, Anthropic's S-1 revealed serious risks!
certainly, Anthropic's S-1 revealed serious risks!
I mean look, AI is hard. I’ve been wrong about many aspects of it and most of the smartest people I follow have been wrong about *something.*
But Ed has been claiming peak AI for more than two years. This is almost literally like covering the Intel IPO in 1971 by bringing on somebody who claimed that Moore’s Law (written in 1965) had peaked in 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, and 1970. It’s not illegal to do this, but your source is confidently commenting on a phenomenon his previous commentary considered impossible.

AOC: Susan Collins is a member of the ruling class. And what this institution tries to do is protect from it being intruded upon by working-class Americans. And so, they call people communists… but what it really is: they are afraid of a waitress in the House and a logger in the Senate.

The belief that Anthropic is financially safer than Amazon because of a $132B cash balance reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of synthetic balance sheets:
Cash Source vs. Cash Nature: Amazon’s cash balance sits on self-sustaining free cash flow generated across cloud, prime, and logistics. Anthropic’s $132B cash balance was raised via $140B in external preferred equity, SAFEs, and convertible debt. Their operating cash flow is deeply negative.
Contractual Encumbrance: Looking only at the left side of the balance sheet ignores contractual liabilities. Anthropic's S-1 disclosures show over $230B in multi-year, non-cancellable compute obligations ($110B locked to Amazon AWS and $120.5B to SpaceX). The cash is legally ear-marked to fund these commitments.
The Round-Tripping Reality: Much of this capital follows a closed loop: Big Tech and institutional private credit inject liquidity into AI labs, which holds the cash temporarily before returning it to AWS as cloud infrastructure revenue.
When a company holds $132B in cash against $230B+ in rigid purchase commitments, it is not sitting on a mountain of safety. It is pacing a multi-year balance sheet conversion that requires raising even more capital or generating enterprise cash flow before the escrow runs dry.

Anthropic has more cash and cash equivalents than Amazon… I don’t understand why people keep spreading fearmongering FUD about Anthropic going bankrupt.

Anthropic "is burning cash like crazy" was one big lie, spread by the Ed Zitrons of the world.
For the first 6 months of 2026, Anthropic generated positive free cash flow of $3.4 billion ($3.9 billion of cash flow from operations less $482 million of capex).
And stock-based 2.2 billion.. So even FCF less SBC was positive.
