Bank: We need proof you can afford a $2,000/month mortgage.

Me: I've been paying $2,800/month in rent for 5 years without missing a single payment.

Bank: Doesn't count.

Me: So you're telling me I can consistently pay a landlord $33,600 a year, but you can't trust me to pay $24,000 a year toward a house I would actually own?

Bank: We need to assess your debt to income ratio, credit history, and available down payment.

Me: So all those rent payments prove I can afford housing, but none of them help me qualify to own it?

Bank: Those are the lending requirements.

And people wonder why renters can't get ahead.

YOU CAN PROVE YOU'VE PAID FOR HOUSING FOR YEARS AND STILL BE TOLD YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO OWN IT.

Police will be like "you can't ride a bike without a light, it's unsafe," and then murder you.
Eric Wayne Baker was traffic-stopped by Phoenix PD for riding a bicycle without a front light, assaulted during rough arrest, tasered multiple times and restrained until he died during arrest.

Eric Wayne Baker
Age: 52
Gender: Male
Race: White
Date: 04/04/2026
Location: Buena of W. Dobson Road / University Drive and Dobson Road
City: Mesa
County: Maricopa
State: Arizona
Agency: Mesa Police Department
Officer(s): Not Disclosed
Cause of Death: Taser
Event: Died after police foot pursuit, physical restraint and multiple Taser deployments during traffic stop for riding bicycle without front light

On 04/04/2026 at approximately 8:30 p.m., Mesa Police Department officers saw 52-year-old Eric Wayne Baker riding a bicycle near University Drive and Dobson Road. Police said the bicycle lacked a required front light. Officers activated emergency lights and sirens, and Baker continued west on University Drive before entering the Buena Apartments. Two officers pursued him on foot while a third drove around the complex. Baker crashed his bicycle onto a concrete walkway.

Police said Baker pulled away, would not give officers his hands, attempted to get up and kicked at officers as they tried to arrest him. During the approximately one-minute-and-35-second struggle, officers physically struck Baker and deployed Tasers multiple times. Three officers eventually handcuffed him. Police also learned Baker had an active felony warrant related to a probation revocation.

Bystander video presents a disputed view of the struggle. The recording shows three officers restraining Baker on the ground. Baker's face appears bloodied, and he can repeatedly be heard saying that he cannot breathe. A witness told ABC15 that Baker was not fighting officers but was pleading for help. Baker's daughter, Charlee Baker, later disputed the police account that her father assaulted an officer.

Police said approximately 45 seconds after Baker was handcuffed, officers moved him onto his side. About 40 seconds later they requested an expedited medical response. Police said Baker continued yelling, kicking and moving on the ground, and responding medical personnel were initially unable to obtain his vital signs because of his movement.

Baker was placed in an ambulance for transport to a hospital. He became unresponsive during transport. Resuscitation efforts were begun, but he died.

Baker's family retained civil-rights attorney Benjamin Taylor and questioned the amount of force used during an encounter that began with a bicycle-light violation. Three months after Baker's death, the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's autopsy findings had still not been released. The Maricopa County Attorney's Office currently lists Baker's in-custody death investigation as “Awaiting submittal,” with Mesa Police Department as the investigating agency.

The three involved officers were placed on 40 hours of critical-incident leave and later returned to duty. Mesa Police did not refer the death to an outside agency, stating that it did not meet the East Valley Critical Incident Response Team's criteria. The department's Critical Incident Review Board, including Internal Affairs and Training Division personnel, is reviewing the incident.

Weapon(s): None reported.

No, wrong. You pass the popular agenda and let the other party stand in the way of what the people want.

Why the fuck would you pre-veto shit??
.@SenBrianSchatz says that if Democrats take the Senate, the party's left wing needs to be strategic about not proposing things "that the president of the United States is guaranteed to veto."

I REFUSE TO take advice from a generation of drunks and chronic smokers who had the best economy ever handed to them. SHUT THE F*CK UP BOOMERS. Here's the clear comparison.

Homeownership: Boomers 79%. Millennials 54%. Gen Z 27%.

First-time homebuyer age: used to be mid-20s. Now a record 40.

College tuition: ~$600/year in 1985. ~$12,000/year now. A summer of minimum wage used to cover a full year. Now it doesn't cover one semester.

Student debt: boomers carried almost none as a generation. Millennials and Gen Z are splitting $1.8 trillion.

Total wealth: Boomers hold roughly $85 trillion, over half of all US wealth. Millennials hold about $19 trillion, roughly 11%.

Pensions: standard for boomers. Nearly extinct for everyone after.

Working multiple jobs: rare for boomers, single stable employer was the norm. About 8% of millennials hold more than one job today. Gen Z is similar on paper, but a much bigger share work informal gig income that doesn't even show up in that number.

Job tenure: boomers routinely stayed 10+ years at one employer. Millennials and Gen Z have the shortest average tenure on record, not by choice, by necessity.

Smoking: roughly 35-40% of boomers smoked as young adults. Millennials dropped to 15-20%. Gen Z is under 6% on traditional cigarettes.

Drinking: boomers drank more heavily as young adults than either generation after them. Gen Z specifically is the "sober curious" generation, lowest alcohol consumption on record at this age.

Nightlife and partying: going out regularly was just normal and affordable for boomers. Gen Z has the lowest bar and nightclub attendance of any generation at the same age, a lot of that social life moved online because going out got expensive.

Marriage age: boomers married around 23-25. Now it's 28-30 and climbing.

Having kids: cost of raising one kid to 18 now tops $300,000. Gen Z is reporting the lowest intent to have children on record, and cost is the number one reason given.

Here's the part that actually matters: $23,617 in 1985, adjusted for inflation, is worth about $74,000 today. Median household income now sits around $80,000. On paper, income technically kept up.

But housing, healthcare, and college didn't play by that rule. They outpaced regular inflation by a mile. So the paycheck grew just enough to look fine on a chart, while the actual cost of building a life quietly tripled.

Less smoking. Less drinking. Less partying. Working just as hard, often with a second income stream boomers never needed.

And somehow, still further behind.
