Proud to say that yours truly trained Texas Roadhouse founder, the late great Kent Taylor at our Precinct steakhouse in Cincinnati. Hope you’ll give Jeff Ruby’s in Nashville an opportunity to serve you.
Texas Roadhouse is the undisputed GOAT of sit-down chain restaurants. Best bang for your buck in America. Chuy’s dominates Mexican, Buca di Beppo wins Italian, and Outback’s Bloomin’ Onion is the best single dish in the chain restaurant universe. Let the debate begin.

You know your s..t. 🫡👏
Here is the freight side of how Newport paid for Las Vegas:

Moe Dalitz got his start hauling bootleg Canadian whiskey in his family's Michigan laundry delivery trucks.

When he and the Cleveland Syndicate moved from Newport's Beverly Hills Country Club ($426,199 net profit in 1948–49) and Lookout House to the Desert Inn and Stardust, traditional banks wouldn't touch casino paper, so naturally, they turned to Jimmy Hoffa and the Teamsters Central States Pension Fund (an alliance Dalitz forged by brokering a $17,500 payoff to settle the 1949 Detroit laundry-truck strike).

How did a truckers' union end up sitting on enough cash ($91M in loans by 1961) to build the Vegas strip?

The Motor Carrier Act of 1935 locked interstate trucking into protected routes. In 1953 (ATA v. United States, 344 U.S. 298), the Teamsters even hired Burton K. Wheeler (the senator who sponsored the 1935 Act) to appear at the Supreme Court defending the ICC rules that abolished one-trip "gypsy" leasing.

Protected ICC routes on top built the Teamsters pension bank that funded Vegas.

Meanwhile, up to 150,000 private and exempt carriers exploited the loopholes created by regulation.

The same topic my pinned article is all about.

Lucky Luciano, Meyer Lansky ,Frank “ Screw” Andrews et al were associated with Newport operations. When someone was wacked they were put in a box , poured concrete in it and in the Ohio River they went. They called it a “ Newport Nightgown “
What happens in Vegas started in Newport.

@TheRealJeffRuby Although the book Forbidden Fruit: Sin City’s Underworld and the Supper Club Inferno is ultimately about the Beverly Hills Supper Club fire, it’s also a deep dive into Newport’s mob days.

I themed this entire incident and the Newport mafia days in The Tropicana I opened in Newport. The infamous Tropicana was a club back then that Tito Carinci managed. Tito was involved with the Ratterman incident. I invited both to my opening. George politely refused to come when I told him Tito would be there for the “ reunion “ I hired Tito. Great guy. RIP both.

In 1961, a mafia in Kentucky drugged a former NFL quarterback and put him in bed with a stripper.

George Ratterman had played for the Cleveland Browns. Now he was running for sheriff, promising to shut down the gambling and prostitution that had made Newport, Kentucky the he mob lured him to a hotel suite above the Tropicana nightclub and drugged him.

When he came to, he was undressed and in bed with a stripper named April Flowers. Three Newport cops burst in the room to arrest him.

But instead of ending his campaign, he fought back and the set-up fell apart.

A blood test found the drugs in his system and the stripper later admitted he was unconscious.

Ratterman won the election. And with help from FBI agents sent by Robert Kennedy, he cleaned out the town.

“In four years I got rid of the gambling and the prostitution,” he said, “and I didn’t get killed.”
