Living in DC I sometimes find myself — without any warning or plan — out on the mall at night

Seattle is more of a cul-de-sac than I remembered.
It doesn’t feel cool, it feels like some punk anarchist’s time capsule idea of something that was cool ten years ago. Dead end
The people are nice. Everyone is Asian or White. It’s still beautiful. Tech utopia backwater

Bland hollandaise is minus one or two points all by itself. Where’s the butter, the lemon, the salt?
And chefs, please, please learn what seed oils taste like because it’s not neutral, it makes everything, especially potatoes, taste stale
Not to mention coffee that tastes like saved by a trip to the “fruit bar” which was really good
Benedict 5.2/10

Dad used to like baking bread but it never came out right so he gave it up
One year we both read this book and Dad started baking perfect sourdough loaves, every time

People on California West Coast are way hotter than East Coast equivalents (Georgia, Carolinas, DC)
But it flips up North. East Coast Boston and Portland (Maine) way hotter than West Coast Seattle and Portland (Oregon)

Ray Peat is held up several times in this article as adjacent to crazies but it’s this drop that made me laugh out loud
At some point I noticed that more and more people seemed to be telling me: everything you think you know about food is wrong. This led me down a rabbit hole that I’ve come to think of as “dark nutrition.” I wrote about this whole world for @NYTmag nytimes.com/2026/10/21/mag…

JUST IN: The U.S. Army is preparing its role in Golden Dome, America’s planned $185 billion missile-defense shield.
A roughly 100-person task force is coordinating how ground-based interceptors, space-based sensors and other defenses will work together to protect the U.S. from ks.
The Pentagon is targeting initial operational capability in 2028.

This is how Elon is going to get datacenters in space
The math only works if he can achieve significant cost efficiency
But the numbers everyone else is making assume that space data centers are just earth-based datacenters plus satellite costs
Elon is going to find efficiencies in space that don’t exist on earth

Elon Musk says a chip for space should run hot, since raising the temperature 20% in Kelvin cuts radiator mass in half, and that a multi-trillion parameter model does not care about a few bit flips
“Well, I guess you want to design it to be more radiation tolerant and run at a roughly, if you increase the operating temperature by 20% in degrees Kelvin, you can cut your radiator mass in half. So running at a higher temperature is helpful in space."
"There’s various things you can do for shielding the memory, but neural nets are going to be very resilient to bit flips. So most of what happens for radiation is random bit flips."
"But if you’ve got, like, you know, a multi-trillion parameter model and you get a few bit flips, it doesn’t matter. Heuristic programs are going to be much more sensitive to bit flips than some giant parameter file. So I just design it to run hot. And I think you pretty much do it the same way that you do things on Earth, apart from make it run hotter.”

Trump Accounts are about AI and Capitalism
Tech leaders like Elon and Sam Altman are worried the at the younger generation feels no stake in an AI economy. They cannot continue to build if millennials will try to blow everything up over housing prices
UBI is not a solution. UBI is welfare. UBI is at odds with technocapitalism because the only way to increase welfare is to increase taxes on productive companies
Trump Accounts give young Americans a stake in the economy itself. Their wealth grows as tech companies grow. Tech companies want to create a class of American invested in tech’s success
Trump has also been having the government buy large stakes in companies like Intel and Nvidia. It serves the same purpose.
Once this system is old enough it will be more valuable than Social Security. Most won’t even fight to keep it

Trump Accounts may soon be expanded even more to anyone under 40yrs old. That would be another 100 million people, on top of the 70 million kids and 3.5mil babies born each year. This according to Brad Gerstner who is the main guy spearheading efforts on this. He also said Elon ice scoop and piece on it from @LydiaMoynihan @nypost

Reminder that we allow America’s capital to be governed by communists who don’t believe in punishing criminals, the only person to do anything about this is Donald Trump, who used the National Guard, and most politicians wanted to stop him
Talib Shakir, a 50-year-old DC government official, died when his illegal hyperscooter, able to go over five times as fast as the 10 mph speed limit, collided with a Lime scooter, and he was thrown to the street. He wasn’t wearing a helmet.
Shakir shot to death a cabdriver in x.com/shawnchittle/s…d” to a rural residential facility without fences or guards. He naturally escaped, and, within a couple of weeks, shot to death a 23-year-old Korean student working as a Petworth store clerk during a 1993 robbery. Somehow ended free, and got funded by taxpayers in a phony-baloney job as an adult, but was still a sociopath on the road and who knows where else. Fortunately, he died from his own unhelmeted carelessness before his wildly unsafe hyperscooter killed a third person.
