Hey @projecthailmary!
I’m a rocket science teacher who became an astronaut for my students! I just returned from a 2-week Mars simulation at MDRS where my students and I ran a live interplanetary comms-delay experiment. During the event, these kids answered hundreds of space audience, and also realized they were ALL (re)reading Project Hail Mary at the same time!
They have been studying rocket science with me (voluntarily) for 5 years on @Outschool and can hold their own with anyone in the space industry. They’re sharp on camera and asked & answered brilliant questions throughout.
We’d LOVE the chance to interview @RyanGosling, @andyweirauthor, or anyone from the team. The science-teacher-going-to-space-for-his-students angle really resonated strongly with us.
We’re based globally (I’m in Canada), so Zoom works perfectly on your schedule.
Any chance this is possible? We’d love to show your team, and the world, why these kids are the real future of space exploration!
Rocky says we make a good team together, after all!!

New Telescope!!
Today, NASA announced PRIMA, a new space telescope that will explore long-standing mysteries around the formation of planets, stars, black holes, and even how water on Earth came to be. go.nasa.gov/3TgGh3W

European Jellyfish Alert!!!
Isar Aerospace plans a launch of its Spectrum rocket from the island of Andøya, Norway, during a one-hour window opening at 10:00pm CEST (4pm EDT) today.
The launch may produce a widespread jellyfish effect.
This prediction, which may be inaccurate, especially from great neralized and derived from public information about Spectrum’s specifications, published hazard areas, and orbital dynamics. Potential deviations from nominal performance during ascent may materially affect visibility.

I'm curious about the scheduling for the Solar Eclipse:
@nextspaceflight has it down for "NET Aug 12"...
What might delay this event ?

Scrub for Thursday, aiming for Friday.
Now targeting Friday, July 24 for Starship’s thirteenth flight test, due to weather.
A key objective for the flight test is to get clear imagery from the ground of Starship’s heatshield as it flies at a higher dynamic pressure during ascent, which won't be possible with today's ibility is forecast to be ideal for a Friday attempt.

Wait, if we don't need superconductors anymore, but rather the mycelium network of the largest size and power possible, Avatar might play out differently than we thought...
Mycelium Chips?
No, not the kind you eat. the kind funded by DARPA that do inference based on the grown structure of mycelium.

I will note it has been 15+ years since I saw the movie, and I had ~10% of my understanding of science relating to any of this back then. Random posts have taught me more than what I remember of the movie.

While I personally have never consumed anything brewed before, and don't support it in my role as a teacher, I can support the money that is already being spent on it being used to support space science like this.
Excited to announce we flew our second mission, MicroBrew-2, on @SpaceX's Starfall Demo mission yesterday!
This launch carried a payload called the Brewery Archive Space Exposure Demonstrator which held dozens of different strains of brewing yeasts, distiller’s yeasts, and wine yeasts from around the world. (Hint: we miiiight be announcing some insanely cool new products soon...👀) We also included seeds from a bunch of native Texas plants, including Bluebonnets! Next we'll analyze the yeast strains and seeds to see how they adapted to the spaceflight environment.
This was the successor to our MicroBrew-1 and OASIS missions that were performed on the International Space Station last year. In MicroBrew-1, an astronaut combined wort and yeast (the same two ingredients using in brewing beer) so we could study alcohol fermentation in microgravity. The OASIS experiment successfully grew the first-ever crops in soil in space. Humanity is still in the early days of orbital manufacturing but we aim to stay at the forefront of it!
Huge shoutout to the SpaceX team for the incredible opportunity to fly on a new vehicle. And we have some more exciting announcements coming up related to this mission so stay tuned!
