🚨 DAILY NEWS RECAP
The Middle East is getting uncomfortable again.
The U.S. is moving personnel out of regional bases while warships in the Arabian Sea load long-range missiles and bunker-busters. Trump is openly considering another major operation against Iran.
Iran clearly S. intelligence now says the threat to Americans is at its highest level since the war began, with embassy staffing being reduced across Jordan, Lebanon, Qatar and the UAE.
At the same time, cyber activity between Iran, Israel and the U.S. has jumped sharply through October.
That usually isn’t the kind of thing you want to see right before everyone starts insisting nothing is about to happen.
Israel is still the big question mark.
Trump backed Netanyahu despite pushback from senior advisers, and Netanyahu refused to say whether a joint strike plan against Iran already exists. Iran is already looking at retaliation options, including Dimona and Gulf infrastructure if its own nuclear and energy sites are hit.
The Houthi front is still sitting there too, waiting to make everything worse.
Washington is already cutting embassy staff partly because of fears of another escalation against Saudi Arabia.
And one story that deserves more attention: Reuters says U.S. administrations have asked SpaceX to switch Starlink on and off in conflict zones including Iran, Ukraine, Lebanon and Yemen.
Which is a pretty wild amount of geopolitical power sitting inside one private satellite network.
Meanwhile, China still hasn’t closed the economic gap with the U.S.
Its nominal GDP relative to America has actually fallen since 2020, even as the argument over whether China is slowing structurally or simply changing gears gets louder.
That’s where things stand.
Nothing has exploded yet.
But a lot of people are moving like they expect it to.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman: "I don't even know a dramatic enough word to use… models can find bugs that are outside of the normal threat model of what we think a hacker can do… hardware-level, insane stuff… I no longer think we're gonna be able to just patch all the bugs."

Stanley Kubrick on 2001: A Space Odyssey: "It’s not a message that I ever intend to convey in words. 2001 is a nonverbal experience; out of two hours and 19 minutes of film, there are only a little less than 40 minutes of dialog. I tried to create a visual experience, one that eonholing and directly penetrates the subconscious with an emotional and philosophic content. To convolute McLuhan, in 2001, the message is the medium. I intended the film to be an intensely subjective experience that reaches the viewer at an inner level of consciousness, just as music does; to “explain” a Beethoven symphony would be to emasculate it by erecting an artificial barrier between conception and appreciation. You’re free to speculate as you wish about the philosophical and allegorical meaning of the film—and such speculation is one indication that it has succeeded in gripping the audience at a deep level—but I don’t want to spell out a verbal road map for 2001 that every viewer will feel obligated to pursue or else fear he’s missed the point. I think that if 2001 succeeds at all, it is in reaching a wide spectrum of people who would not often give a thought to man’s destiny, his role in the cosmos and his relationship to higher forms of life. But even in the case of someone who is highly intelligent, certain ideas found in 2001 would, if presented as abstractions, fall rather lifelessly and be automatically assigned to pat intellectual categories; experienced in a moving visual and emotional context, however, they can resonate within the deepest fibers of one’s being."

Principal photography on 2001: A Space Odyssey began on this day, 1965 at Shepperton Studios, England. The team invented a light projection system for the ‘Dawn of Man’ sequence to create the illusion of a vast primordial desert.

For me, it’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. The Dawn of Man scene is perfect. The monolith, a symbol of progress, aligns with the rising sun behind it (also in my profile pic), which is not just a backdrop, it symbolizes mankind’s dawn as they begin using tools. Chilling every time.
What movie do you consider “perfect”?
