Replying to @stoker
@stoker That’s an interesting point. Temperature and density differences could leave detectable traces, though I imagine the actual risk depends on the depth, currents, and conditions. I wouldn’t assume every sub surfaces daily to flush waste, though.

🗄️ Your Postgres client, your MySQL client and a browser tab each hold half of the same query, and none of them remembers the variables you set two statements ago. DBeaver Community 26.2.4 takes another pass at that SQL workspace.

Meet DBeaver Community, an open-source project by dbeaver (@dbeaver_news): a free, Apache-2.0 database workspace for macOS. Version 26.2.4 was published on November 1, 2026.

🧠 Keep variables alive across statements
The SQL editor adds cross-statement SQL variable tracking: a variable defined in one statement is now tracked for autocomplete, highlighting, hover information and the SQL outline.

🤖 Point the assistant at your own provider
AI Assistant now supports configuring AI providers, including OpenAI and GitHub Copilot, through environment variables. AI Chat image previews get aspect-ratio thumbnails, popup viewing, zoom and scrolling, and AI scope selection is fixed for nested tables, views and other object folders.

🔄 Decide when metadata reloads
After DDL execution, the editor offers Ask, Always and Never options for reloading metadata. The text editor context menus and the Edit menu also gain Select All.

📊 Name the sheets in your export
Data transfer adds configurable XLSX sheet name patterns with ${n} and ${table} variables, and a canceled export now shows a cancellation notification instead of a completion message. ER diagram palettes and object colors refresh immediately after a theme switch, and connection-type colors refresh across open table Properties editors.

Why it's worth watching: ✅ it fits developers, SQL programmers, database administrators and analysts, and its feature list includes a schema editor, SQL editor, data editor and ER diagrams. It is not a new app: 26.2.4 is a point release after 26.2.3, not a relaunch. It is not universal: the Community build is a desktop database tool, and DBeaver PRO is a separate commercial product.

Boundaries: the Community Edition is free and open source under the Apache License 2.0. The official download page lists "macOS 11 or later versions." The Homebrew cask selects an Apple Silicon or Intel DMG to match your Mac; install with brew install --cask dbeaver-community.

☁️ You can manage your AWS, Azure, and GCP databases from the browser.

Set up the Cloud Explorer configuration once in CloudBeaver Enterprise, then drag any connection into your projects.

This feature is also available in DBeaver Ultimate and DBeaver Team Edition.

This is literally the best idea I’ve ever heard.
In my humble non-Navy opinion; the names Enterprise, Yorktown, Lexington, Saratoga, Hornet, Wasp, Ranger, and Independence should be in permanent rotation for the carriers.

In 1970, IBM researcher Edgar F. Codd published an 11-page paper that changed database design.

He proposed organizing data using mathematical relations instead of forcing programmers to navigate rigid tree structures.

Decades later, developers embraced XML databases, then with endless predictions that SQL was finished.

Then some of those systems started adding schema validation, joins, ACID transactions, and SQL-like query languages.

Turns out changing how you store data doesn’t make the relationships between it disappear.

The Sqlean project (an extended function library for SQLite) started by collecting different SQLite extensions from around the internet, refactoring them into domain modules, and adding tests.

That worked pretty well — some people found Sqlean helpful in their work.
proach also caused a lot of bugs and inconsistent behavior across the extensions.

I saw three possible options:

— Leave the project in its current poor state.
— Spend a year fixing the code myself.
— Employ a clanker and be done in a week.

I chose the last one 😞
