🗂️ You closed a tab and want it back. Nook 1.5.0 adds an archive for closed tabs, lets you act on several tabs at once, and puts Site Settings in the address bar.

Meet Nook by Jonathan Caudill and Maciej Baginski. GPL-3.0. Version 1.5.0, released 8 November 2026. A fast, minimal browser with a sidebar-first design for macOS.

🗂️ Keep the tabs you just closed
Open the archive of closed tabs, and turn on auto-archive. Clear still keeps the current tab.

📑 Act on a stack, not one tab
Select several tabs and act on them together. Collapse and expand all folders. Cmd-D pins a tab, Cmd-. stops loading, and Close All Above is in that same set.

📍 Set the site from the address bar
Site Settings sit in the address bar. Zoom is remembered per site. Extensions can run in private windows, per extension. An Arc import brings archived tabs and Air Traffic Control rules.

🔗 Open it from a launcher
nook:// links work from launchers. New installs start with the ad blocker on. You can open links as plain tabs. Mouse back and forward switch spaces. The space title folds the pinned tabs. Reddit Hot is on the Following feed. The download is smaller. Clear keeps the current tab. Keys a page ignores no longer beep. Fixes favicons for apps sharing one host.

Why it's worth watching: you live in a sidebar browser and want closed tabs, multi-tab actions, and per-site settings without hunting through a menu. Pin, stop, and close from the keyboard. Keep zoom and private-window extensions on the sites that need them. Bring an Arc library across with its archived tabs and Air Traffic Control rules, then keep going in Nook.

Boundaries: free to use, GPL-3.0. macOS 15.5 or later. Apple silicon and Intel. Third-party libraries under Nook/ThirdParty keep their own free, open-source licenses.

🖥️ A remote agent starts a dev server the Agents window cannot open. VS Code 1.145, released November 4, 2026, loads that page through the remote host.

Meet Visual Studio Code by Microsoft. The editor source is under the MIT License. Homebrew ships 1.145.2 for macOS Monterey and newer. It is the open-source editor for writing and reviewing code with agents.

🌐 Preview the remote app
When an agent session runs on a remote agent host, turn on workbench.browser.enableRemoteProxy. The integrated browser in the Agents window loads pages through that host, as it already does in remote workspaces. Open the dev server the agent started, check the change, and send feedback in that session. The same setting, plus chat.canvases.enabled, also opens canvases on that remote host. Both are preview.

🧩 Mix harnesses in one session
Nested sessions used to inherit the parent session's harness. In 1.145, pick a different one when you create the nested session. Ask Claude to review a plan a Copilot chat wrote, or hand Codex the same task, side by side. Each chat keeps its own model, agent, and permission levels. Moving a chat keeps its history. Forking keeps the same configuration. Hover its tab and it names that harness. Enable chat.agentHost.multipleChatProviders.enabled. It is a preview.

⏱️ Schedule local automations with cron
When the presets are not precise enough, select Cron and enter a five-field cron expression. The dialog validates it and describes the schedule. Cron is not available for cloud automations. A local automation can use a custom agent from the selected workspace.

📂 Keep one path inside an excluded folder
files.exclude and search.exclude hide files and folders from Explorer, Search, and Quick Open. Prefix a pattern with ! to keep part of an excluded folder visible, even when another pattern or .gitignore excludes it. A search.exclude exception applies only to Search and Quick Open:

"files.exclude": {
"node_modules": true,
"!node_modules/@types": true
}

Why it's worth watching: for people who review a remote agent's running app, compare two harnesses on one task, or schedule local agent work past the presets.

Boundaries: Microsoft distributes the desktop app. The editor source on GitHub is under the MIT License. The current cask is 1.145.2, with separate Apple silicon and Intel builds, on macOS Monterey or newer. macOS Big Sur and older stay on 1.106.3. The remote browser, remote canvases, and mixed harnesses are marked Preview.

🖥️ A terminal that only lives inside its tab layout has nowhere to park a status bar or a file tree. kitty 0.50 docks those panes outside the layout, and it can bring the whole session back after you log out.

Meet kitty by Kovid Goyal. GPL-3.0. Version 0.50.0, released 3 November 2026. A GPU terminal for people who live in the shell.

📌 Dock a pane outside the layout
Dock a window to an edge of another window, or to an edge of the tab. Docked windows sit outside the layout. Use one for a status bar, a file tree, or a shell kept next to your editor. A dock attached to a window follows that window to other tabs and closes when it closes. Create them with launch --type=window-dock or launch --type=tab-dock. Docks are saved in sessions too.

🔄 Come back after logout
Set restore_session_after_logout and kitty saves its state when you log out, restart, or shut down, then restores it the next time it starts. Every kitty instance comes back with its OS windows, tabs, and windows, including their scrollback. On macOS the saved state is encrypted using a key stored in your keychain.

🪟 Keep a side pane with the window
A dock attached to a window moves with that window when you change tabs. It is not another split inside the layout, so the editor keeps its own arrangement while the file tree or status bar stays on the edge. Close the window and its dock closes with it. The same docks are written into sessions, so a saved session opens them again.

Why it's worth watching: terminal users who keep a file tree or a status line next to an editor, and anyone who wants that layout back after a logout.

Boundaries: GPL-3.0. The Mac build needs macOS Monterey or later. On macOS, logout restore keeps the saved state encrypted with a keychain key.

🔍 A captured GraphQL call was still a raw body, and a DNS reply had no parsed view.

Meet Reqable (@reqable). Community tier is free, with a Premium plan. Version 3.3.11, macOS changelog dated 2026-11-07. The site title is "Reqable · API Debugging Proxy & REST Client". The pricing comparison lists HTTP2, WebSocket and gRPC.

🧩 Nest environment variables
Environment variables now support nested definitions, so one variable can be built from another instead of repeating the same host, port or token in every value.

📐 Open a GraphQL view and a DNS parse
Support for a GraphQL view puts that captured call in a GraphQL layout. Support for a DNS message parsing results view shows the parsed DNS message. gRPC message parsing now supports configuring service methods, so the parse follows the method you set.

🛡️ Widen access control past 127.0.0.1
Access control now supports configuring CIDR address rules. Loopback address detection is no longer limited to 127.0.0.1. The macOS changelog lists these fixes: a bug where localhost was forcibly resolved to 127.0.0.1; a bug where loopback listening would not take effect after the application restarts; a bug where the server address in the overview tab of the traffic details was not displayed correctly in IPv6 format; a bug where the system proxy status has a delay in updating.

🧰 Preview icons and query an IP
Support for previewing images of type image/vnd.microsoft.icon. A new IP query tool has been added to the toolbox. The script editor now uses the rule name as the file name when exporting scripts. Configuration files now use timestamps in their names when exported.

Why it's worth watching
People who capture API traffic on a Mac and need the 3.3.11 GraphQL view, DNS parse, nested variables and CIDR rules in the same proxy.

Boundaries
Community is free and includes HTTP(S) capture plus API testing, with limits such as 4 rule sets and 3 rewrite rules. Premium is $39.9 per year. Not described as open source. The download page says Mac OS X 11.0 and above, with separate Intel and Apple Silicon builds, plus brew install reqable.

🗂️ Tabs from Safari, Chrome and the rest sit in separate windows, and Cmd+T never opened one shared command panel.

Meet SupaSidebar by Kshetez Vinayak (@KshetezVinayak). Paid Mac app with a free tier. Version 1.7.0, published 2026-11-08. An Arc-like sidebar that saves links, files and folders from any browser.

⌨️ Turn browser keys on one at a time
Settings > Browsers > Browser keys switches ⌘T, ⌘N, ⌘L and ⌃Tab on separately. ⌘L opens the Command Panel with the page's address ready to edit, and every pick loads in the same tab. Pages and searches picked after ⌘N open in a new browser window instead of a new tab. The Command Panel takes the current Space's color, with a Tint with Space color switch to turn that off.

🧮 Type a sum in the Command Panel
Type a sum like 12*4 or 50 * 20% and press Return to copy the answer. Pick the same page twice for what you type and it moves to the top, marked Your usual. Rows say when Return opens them elsewhere, like "Always opens in Arc" or "You had it in Work 2h ago". Hold ⌥ to see numbered places for the selected row, then press ⌥1 to ⌥4 to open it there.

📌 Keep a site open with a Never Close rule
Never Close rules in Spaces > Advanced replace tab lock. Locked tabs become rules automatically. Deleting a folder moves its links to the Trash, and the notice offers Undo to bring everything back. After you copy a page's URL, the notice offers Share to send it through the macOS share menu. A Live Tabs setting shows all open tabs in one list, without browser and window headers.

🔔 Let notices sit in a corner
Notices take the Space's color, count down with a ring, and can sit in the top left or top right. Most notices leave after 3 seconds. Errors and warnings stay for 6. Close All Browser Tabs and Close Other Tabs in All Browsers ask before closing anything. The Live Tabs many-tabs notice waits until 300 tabs. Keys no longer pile up while you type, a lag that could reach 1.5 seconds before. Page previews appear the moment Tab Switcher opens instead of up to 1.7 seconds later.

Why it's worth watching
People who keep Safari, Chrome and another browser open and want one sidebar for the tabs, spaces and a command panel.

Boundaries
Free Forever is $0 and includes 3 Spaces. Personal is $29.99 once, for 2 Macs, with one year of updates. Believer is $77 once until November 11, then $99. Prices in USD. Not open source. Requires macOS 14 or later. Homebrew marks Apple silicon and Intel.

🦀 The pet sits there while Copilot or Claude Desktop is waiting on you, and a Windows machine over SSH never showed up on it.

Meet Clawd on Desk by rullerzhou-afk. Source code is under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0. Artwork and bundled theme assets are not covered by that license. Version 1.6.0, published 2026-11-08. A pixel desktop pet that reacts to AI coding agents in real time.

🪟 Send the pet to a Windows computer
Clawd on macOS or Linux can deploy to a Windows computer over SSH, so Claude Code, Copilot, Codex and the DeepSeek Harness desktop app running there report back to your local pet. Only Clawd's own entries are touched. A Windows host has no Codex log fallback monitor, no Hermes and no status-line quota. DeepSeek Harness needs the same user signed in on that desktop, then a restart of its app.

🧩 Let Kiro drive a reminder card
The Kiro desktop app drives the pet through a global hook, on its own Settings card, separate from Kiro CLI. When Kiro waits, Clawd shows a read-only card with "Go to Kiro" and "Got it". You answer inside Kiro. Tested only on macOS with Kiro 1.4.86.

⏳ Watch Copilot wait in the terminal
When Copilot waits for a path outside the workspace, a web fetch, or an ask_user question, the pet stays in its waiting pose and the HUD row shows the approval badge until you answer. Copilot does not let a hook approve these. If you deny or press Esc, the pet keeps waiting until your next message, at most about two hours.

💬 Catch a Claude Desktop question
When the Code tab ends a turn with a question, the pet shows a read-only card with the question and the button texts. You answer in Claude Desktop. Clicking the card brings Claude to the front without opening that session. "Remind me about unanswered Claude questions" is off by default. Turn it on and the card can return once, after 1 to 120 minutes, default 5, with a sound. Tested only on macOS.

While the pet is hidden, on Mac the CPU drops by about 90%. Phones pair by scanning a QR code next to the pairing link, tested on an iPhone and an Android phone.

Why it's worth watching
People who leave Claude Code, Codex, Copilot or Kiro running and want a glance when one is waiting, including one on a Windows computer over SSH.

Boundaries
Source code is AGPL-3.0. Artwork and bundled theme assets are not under that license. macOS 12 or later. Official releases provide x64 and arm64 DMGs with the Developer ID-signed and Apple-notarized app.

🎙️ Pitch tracks that stop drawing halfway, and an old Praat 6 session you still need open beside 7.

Meet Praat by Paul Boersma, David Weenink, and Anastasia Shchupak. Free under the GNU General Public License, version 3 or higher. Version 7.0.03, published 8 November 2026. A computer program for phonetics, with tools for speech analysis, synthesis, labelling, experiments, scripting and statistical analysis.

🔁 Keep 6 and 7 open together
Praat 6 and Praat 7 can run at the same time. Leave the older session on a script or a TextGrid while 7.0.03 handles the new recording.

📈 Finish the pitch track
Sound: To Pitch no longer risks a division by zero that could leave the Pitch window only partly drawn. The contour runs through instead of stopping in the middle of the view.

📉 Plot tables that contain gaps
Table: Line graph stays up when a cell is undefined. A missing measurement no longer takes the graph down with it.

📚 Read a Kiel corpus
Corpus reads Kiel corpus files, so those recordings and annotations open as a corpus instead of a pile of loose files. Pair that with the line-graph fix when a speaker table has empty cells, and the plot still draws.

The same 7.0.03 notes also repair a Windows case where PNG files could show IPA symbols incorrectly if the IPA fonts were not available. That item is Windows-only. On Mac, the changes to keep are side-by-side Praat 6 and Praat 7, a Pitch window that finishes drawing, line graphs that survive undefined cells, and Kiel corpus import.

Why it's worth watching
Speech researchers and students who measure pitch, formants and labelled intervals, and who still keep a Praat 6 workflow next to Praat 7. About 2,027 GitHub stars and a long-running Praat Users List sit behind the program.

Boundaries
Free software under GPL-3.0 or higher. Source code is on GitHub. The Mac download is one disk image for Apple silicon and Intel. macOS is required. No paid tier is listed.

⏱️ The menu bar now forecasts when a CodeBurn quota window runs out, and a guard stops a repeated tool call or a failed shell command while the session is still running.

Meet CodeBurn by AgentSeal. MIT License, version 0.9.28, released on November 7, 2026. It reads local AI-coding session files and shows token use and cost for Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and other agents.

📈 Forecast the window
On short windows the forecast uses the pace of the last hour. On long windows it uses the last six hours, and it covers the five-hour window too. It waits for two readings ten minutes apart. The second row and the heatmap show "· out 15:40", or "lasts until reset" when the pace reaches the reset first. If the forecast lands before the reset, a second alert fires once per cycle. The alert threshold is a picker at 70, 80, or 90.

🛑 Stop a loop in progress
An identical tool call repeated 4 times in a row gets a warning, and the 8th is denied. A shell command that failed 3 times in the session gets a warning, and the 5th try is denied. The reason names the call, the count, and the session cost so far. The four limits live in the guard settings, where null turns one off. `codeburn guard status` prints them, and `codeburn guard allow` lifts the stops for that session.

💸 Price the premium paths
`one-hour-cache-unused` prices one-hour prompt-cache writes that no pause over five minutes ever needed. `fast-mode-background` prices fast mode on subagent calls. `long-context-premium` prices prompts that crossed a model's long-context tier, with the threshold read from the price data. Sessions show a cache hit rate: cache reads over input plus reads plus writes. A session with no cache data shows a dash, not 0%.

📤 Label every dollar
Each call carries a cost basis: recorded (the tool's own bill), calculated (tokens at list price), estimated (the calls the ~ marks), included (subscription usage at $0), or unpriced. Sessions, days, and the menu bar's current period carry the recorded, calculated, and estimated shares. The same fields appear in `codeburn export` as JSON and a CSV column.

Why it's worth watching: keep it if you bill AI coding time and want the quota window called before it closes, plus a stop on a tool call or shell command that is looping.

Boundaries: MIT License. The menu-bar app needs macOS 12 or later and runs on Apple silicon and Intel. The CLI needs Node.js 22.15 or newer.

🗺️ A venue file that stays flat, or a satellite band you cannot step by date, stays off the map. GeoLibre Desktop 3.7.0 opens an IMDF archive as a 3D venue and adds a JAXA Earth band at a chosen date.

Meet GeoLibre Desktop by Qiusheng Wu. MIT License, version 3.7.0, released on November 8, 2026. A GIS app for maps, layers, and spatial data on Mac.

🏢 Open the building, then pick the floor
Open an IMDF venue archive, the zip of GeoJSON that Apple Maps and many indoor tools export, as a ready-made 3D venue. Or open an OGC IndoorGML building from Add Data → IndoorGML Layer as extruded cells and its navigation network. An on-map Floor picker shows one floor, a cutaway of the floors below, or all of them. Click a room in the overview and you go to its floor.

📐 Stack floors from a field
The extrusion base can come from a field, a scale, or an expression. A floor height stacks every floor of a building from its level attribute in a single layer.

🛰️ Draw the scene, then step a date
ArcGIS I3S scene layers draw again on deck.gl. Building Scene Layers (BIM) load with discipline and category toggles. Hosted tiled imagery layers that cache raw LERC tiles, which used to come up empty, now draw through the ArcGIS SDK. Under Plugins → Web Services, a JAXA Earth plugin browses all 119 JAXA Earth API datasets, from AW3D30 elevation to GSMaP precipitation and land surface temperature, and adds a band at a chosen date as a color-mapped layer you can step through in time.

📏 Measure on the ellipsoid
Lines get their own opacity, dashes, and blur in the layer style. The field calculator, story maps, and processing tools measure distances and areas on the ellipsoid instead of a sphere. Administrators can turn off the Regional basemaps served from mainland China. An opened project that selects one now asks first. They can point the OSM Downloader at their own Overpass endpoint.

🎯 Why it's worth watching
Use it if you open venue files, BIM scenes, or satellite layers on a Mac. 3.7.0 brings indoor maps, ArcGIS I3S Building Scene Layers, and JAXA Earth data.

📋 Boundaries
MIT License. The license grants permission free of charge. macOS, with separate builds for Apple Silicon (aarch64) and Intel (x64). 📅 Google Calendar events that stopped refreshing after sleep, or a join click that opened the wrong link, left the next meeting invisible. MeetingBar 5.0.0 keeps the last known good events and reworks how links are chosen.

Meet MeetingBar by Andrii Leitsius. Apache License 2.0, version 5.0.0, released on November 7, 2026. A menu-bar app that shows your current or next calendar meeting and lets you join it in one click.

🔄 Keep the last good calendar
Calendar sync tracks provider health and keeps the last known good events. A fix covers Google Calendar events that silently stopped refreshing after a network interruption or after sleep and wake. Google Calendar quota handling and pagination are improved. EventKit permission handling and calendar availability recovery are improved. Missing recurring events and cross-calendar duplicates are fixed.

🔗 Open the meeting, not a stray URL
Meeting link detection and opening policies were reworked. Prioritization avoids opening unrelated URLs. Outlook SafeLinks, Google Calendar redirects, and Clari Copilot meeting links are fixed. Google Meet can launch in the PWA with account selection. Tuple App opening is supported, and Microsoft Teams personal meeting links are detected.

🔔 Join with the link that is current
Notification planning and scheduling were reworked. Fullscreen notifications behave when a display connects or disconnects. Dismissing a notification stays in sync. Auto Join no longer uses an outdated meeting link after a calendar refresh. Event-start scripts run for events that have no meeting link.

🪟 See the next meeting in the menu bar
Onboarding and preferences were redesigned. Stacked status bar titles resize with the layout. Next-meeting selection no longer skips the soonest upcoming event. Status bar items no longer go blank in certain icon configurations. Reopening the app is more reliable.

🎯 Why it's worth watching
Use it if your day is a stack of calendar calls and you want the next one in the menu bar. 5.0.0 keeps the last known good events. It fixes Google Calendar events that silently stopped refreshing after sleep or a network interruption. It also fixes Auto Join when that used an outdated meeting link after a calendar refresh.

📋 Boundaries

🔌 A coding agent that needs a model server on another machine used to stop at Herdr's network prompt. Herdr 0.1.13 puts the core in its own app, Herdr Core, so macOS asks once for the local network and once for the microphone.

Meet Herdr. Apache License 2.0, version 0.1.13, released on November 4, 2026. A desktop app for terminals and coding agents: work stays in spaces, the sidebar shows which agents need you, and terminals keep running after you close the window.

🌐 Let terminal programs reach the LAN
On macOS, programs in your terminals can reach your local network and use the microphone. Herdr's core is now its own app, Herdr Core. macOS asks once for each permission. The network prompt may say herdr-core. Click Allow. Terminals opened before this update need to be reopened once. Node, Copilot, or a model server on another machine can connect, and voice input works.

🔎 Search the terminal
Cmd+F searches the screen and its history. If you have edited keys.json, add "cmd-f": "terminal.search" to its terminal section yourself. Panes also show a scroll thumb you can drag.

🔤 Turn on ligatures when you want them
Programming ligatures stay off by default. Set font_ligatures to true in settings. Mods and agents can scroll a terminal's history with terminal.scroll, and keys.json can bind a command with arguments. dsh-tui agents have their own icon and start from the new agent menu.

🪟 Keep the first screen the right width
Programs start at the size of their pane, so the first screen of an agent is not drawn at the wrong width. Cmd+C reaches the program when nothing is selected. Cmd+1 to 9 follow the order of spaces in the sidebar. Add machine lists hosts from Include files in ~/.ssh/config.

🎯 Why it's worth watching
Use it if you run coding agents in real terminals and want them to keep going when the window is closed. 0.1.13 is the release that lets those terminals reach a model server on another machine and use the microphone, after one Allow each.

📋 Boundaries
Apache License 2.0. macOS builds are for Apple Silicon. Intel Macs build from source. Linux builds are x86-64 and ARM64 and need a desktop session and a working Vulkan driver.

🖼 A folder of images still waiting on a desktop app is what Image Optimizer 2.1.0 takes into the terminal. imgopt uses the same bundled optimizers as the app, and the app doesn't need to be running for the command to work.

Meet Image Optimizer by Anton Reshetov. MIT License, version 2.1.0, published on October 15, 2026. A desktop app for compressing raster images and optimizing vector graphics, with files processed locally on your computer.

⌨️ Install the command
On macOS, choose Image Optimizer → Install Command Line Tool… to add imgopt to /usr/local/bin. Move the app to Applications first. No Node.js or extra installs needed. Script an image pipeline, optimize a folder before a commit, or stay in the terminal.

🗣 Run it with no flags
Run imgopt on its own. It asks what to optimize, where the results should go, whether to convert to WebP, which quality to use, and whether to keep metadata. Before it starts, it prints the equivalent command so you can skip the questions next time.

🔒 Keep originals unless you say so
Replacing original files asks for confirmation in the terminal and requires --yes in scripts and CI. Exit code 1 means any file failed, 2 means invalid arguments, and 130 means you declined or cancelled. A progress bar shows in the terminal, and the output is plain when piped. imgopt --json writes a machine-readable report.

📐 Default PNG quality
Default PNG quality is now 85 for new installs. Existing settings are kept.

🎯 Why it's worth watching
Use it if you compress raster images or vector graphics on a Mac and want the same local optimizers from a script. Version 2.1.0 adds the imgopt command. Run with no flags, it asks the questions. In scripts and CI, replacing original files requires --yes.

📋 Boundaries
MIT License. macOS 12 or later. The command line tool uses the same bundled optimizers as the app. Files are processed locally on your computer.

🎥 Shaky clips without usable gyro, and a Default smooth that lags behind pans, are what Gyroflow 1.7.0 reworks. Optical correction runs without motion data. Optimal path plans the camera path for the whole clip at once.

Meet Gyroflow by AdrianEddy. GNU GPLv3 with App Store Exception, version 1.7.0, published on November 7, 2026. An application that stabilizes video by using motion data from a gyroscope and optionally an accelerometer.

🌀 Stabilize without gyro
Optical stabilization is a new algorithm for stabilization without motion data. Enable it in Motion data, then Optical correction. It needs a valid lens profile. If a moving subject is in frame, you can edit every tracked point and remove it from the solution.

🛤️ Plan the whole clip
Optimal path smoothing plans the camera path for the whole clip at once. Select it in the Stabilization panel. It removes much more shake than Default at the same zoom, never lags behind pans, and keeps the frame within the zoom limit.

📏 Smooth a zoom
Focal length stabilization smooths out fast zooms and zoom pumping by cropping. It works with every file that records the focal length: Sony, Canon, Blackmagic, RED, Nikon, Z CAM. Enable it in the Stabilization panel.

🍎 What changed on the Mac
The preview no longer freezes while the motion data is integrated and smoothed again, which takes seconds for long, high-rate logs.

🎯 Why it's worth watching
Use it if you stabilize action or camera footage and the last version could not follow a zoom or a clip with no usable gyro. macOS 10.15 or later, both Intel and Apple Silicon are supported natively. Version 1.7.0 is the optical correction, the Optimal path, and the focal-length smoothing.

📋 Boundaries
Distributed under the GPLv3 License with App Store Exception. The Gyroflow binary links against mdk-sdk, which is closed-source and not licensed under the GNU GPL. macOS 10.15 or later, Intel and Apple Silicon, both supported natively.

📅 A calendar that only lives inside one vendor account makes a copied event, or a whole calendar file, a manual retype.

Meet renCal by Tristan / T4T5 (@t4t5). MIT License. Version 0.9.2. The download page prints "Version 0.9.2" and "Nov 6, 2026". A desktop calendar that stores events as plaintext .ics files and syncs Google, iCloud, Outlook, and CalDAV.

⌨️ Set the keys yourself
Open Settings and customise keyboard shortcuts. Version 0.9.1, published on 2026-11-02, added that. Navigation still includes vim motions (hjkl). Press ? to see the shortcut list. New events can start from a phrase such as "lunch with Sarah tomorrow at 1pm".

📥 Bring in an .ics file
Import an .ics file as one event, or as a whole calendar. The same November 2 release added that import. Events stay plaintext .ics files on disk.

🎨 Color a Google event, and see plugin updates
Pick colours for Google calendar events. On the Plugins page, an installed plugin shows a badge when an update is available. The week view and the month view now use the same plugin SDK as third-party views. Plugins can now add their own calendar views. Version 0.9.0, published on 2026-10-27, added a year view, and the board view is now a separate plugin you install from the plugins page.

🤖 Install skills from an Agents page
Settings includes an Agents page for installing skills for renCal. Version 0.9.2 also fixed view plugins failing to load in packaged builds, and reduced release binary size.

Why it's worth watching: people who keep a desktop calendar in plaintext .ics files, sync an existing Google, iCloud, Outlook, or CalDAV account, and want their own shortcuts.

Boundaries: MIT License, free of charge under that license. The download button is labeled Apple Silicon. OpenNavo lists the chip as Apple silicon. The Homebrew cask depends on arm64 and on macOS, and does not name a minimum macOS version.

🎚️ Rounded strokes that clip, and a color picker that hides the color you already had, break a composite mid-stroke. Compositor 1.6.5 redraws the sliders and the color picker, and fixes those two painting bugs.

Meet Compositor by Robbie Tilton. MIT License, version 1.6.5, published on November 7, 2026. A free, open-source image editor for compositing and post-processing on the Mac.

🎛️ Drag a slimmer slider
1.6.5 redesigns the sliders across the app: a slim track and a narrow knob that turns to glass while you drag.

🎨 Compare the new color with the current one
The Color Picker is more compact, and it shows the new color next to the current color. Panels and tool bars get the same UI pass.

✏️ Keep a stroke even on a rounded shape
Stroke layer effects no longer come out uneven or clipped on rounded shapes. Painting past the edges of a scaled-down layer no longer fails with a GPU error.

📐 Read the size while you drag
Shapes, lines, marquee selections, and resized layers show their size beside the pointer as you drag, from the November 3 release. View › Show › Distances shows pixel gaps to the canvas edges and nearby layers while you move a layer, and to the layer under the pointer with ⌘ held. Deselect (⌘D) works after a second click in the same area with the Magic Wand.

🎯 Why it's worth watching
Use it if you want a Photoshop-style stack of layers, masks, blend modes, and adjustment layers without a subscription. Skip it on Intel, and on anything older than macOS 26: the project requires macOS 26.0 or later on Apple silicon. The interface is English only. Version 1.6.5 is the slimmer sliders, the compact color picker, and the two painting fixes.

⌨️ A launcher that only opens apps still leaves the note, the clip, and the window move in three other places. Tinycast 0.12.8 puts a Notes menu bar item, file and folder favorites, and move-to-edge window commands in the same palette.

Meet Tinycast by @abue_ammar. GNU Affero General Public License v3.0, version 0.12.8, published on November 4, 2026. A native macOS launcher for everyday productivity.

📝 Keep a note in the menu bar
0.12.8 adds a Notes menu bar item. Notes stay Markdown, next to the palette, instead of a separate notes app.

📁 Pin the files you open again
File and folder favorites land in the same release. The search scope picker can choose folders. HTML-only and RTF-only copies are recorded in clipboard history, so a styled paste is not dropped because it had no plain text.

🪟 Move the window, including a fullscreen one
Move-to-edge window commands are in. Fullscreen windows can move between displays, with display-move options. Compact mode is the default, and compact palette shortcuts are configurable.

🎙️ Mark dictation, and open the event
Dictation can play optional start and stop sounds, using the macOS dictation sounds. Calendar events open in the default calendar app. AI API connections can carry custom request headers, and AI chat has an Expand thinking setting. OpenCode v2 can use MCP servers configured in Tinycast.

🎯 Why it's worth watching
Use it if you want one keyboard palette for apps, clips, notes, and window moves, with AI chat off until you turn it on. Skip it if you need an Intel-only Homebrew cask: the stable cask is Apple silicon, and the universal build is a separate tap cask. Version 0.12.8 is the Notes menu bar item, the file favorites, and the window moves.

📋 Boundaries

🛡️ A Safari filter list can die at 150,000 rules. wBlock 3.2.3 splits a list past 120,000 rules across its content blockers and keeps that list's exceptions.

Meet wBlock by Alexander Skula. GNU General Public License v3.0, version 3.2.3, published on October 30, 2026. It blocks ads in Safari on Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro.

✂️ Split a list that outgrows one blocker
Safari gives each content blocker 150,000 rules. Lists with more than 120,000 rules can be split across content blockers while preserving their exceptions. Truncation by the converter is now reported. Filter rows show the number of rules applied.

🔗 Keep the URL-cleaning exceptions
Safari respects exceptions to URL cleaning rules. The site scope picker for cosmetic filtering is back. Site fields still accept patterns such as amazon.*.

🕶️ Read the privacy warning before you send the signal
Global Privacy Control is opt-in. The setting now warns that sending the signal may make your browser more identifiable. When it is on, wBlock sends the Sec-GPC header and exposes the JavaScript signal. The optional toolbar count shows supported requests blocked by the scripts extension. It does not count everything blocked by Safari's content blockers.

📋 Watch Apply, and pick up Persian Blocker
A progress banner replaces the Apply sheet and shows what is happening. List rows are locked while a watched Apply runs. Persian Blocker is in the filter catalog. Fanboy's Social Blocking List is restored in its Safari-optimized version. Dark Reader has an OLED background setting. A one-time warning appears before enabling a HaGeZi list.

🎯 Why it's worth watching
Use it if you keep custom Safari lists and a big list was getting cut off. Skip it if you wanted a Chrome extension. Version 3.2.3 is the split for lists over 120,000 rules, the URL-cleaning exceptions, and the Apply banner.

📋 Boundaries

📸 A file dropped in Downloads can still be filling in when a watcher grabs it. Tendedero 1.8.1 waits until that image is complete before it hangs the file.

Meet Tendedero by Alejandro Buján. MIT License, version 1.8.1, published on November 1, 2026. It hangs every screenshot you take on a line just above your screen.

🧺 Wait until the image is complete
Some apps save to Downloads under the final name and fill the file in over a few seconds. Tendedero used to hang that file straight away, cut off or blank. It now waits until the image is complete. Screenshots hang as quickly as before.

📌 Pin a photo so new shots cannot push it off
Right click a photo and choose Pin: it moves to the left end of the line, past a knot, on a space grey clip. New screenshots never push it off, Take everything down leaves it, and it stays put while a long line scrolls. Unpin sends it back among the rest. Pin, and the Finder hang below, shipped in 1.8.0 on October 31, 2026.

🖼 Hang a Finder file, or hold the photo over your work
Right click an image and choose Hang on Tendedero: it hangs pinned, and the file stays where it is. Right click a photo and choose Hold: it floats over your apps while you work, framed like a card, and a faded trace waits on its clip. Drag it, stretch it from its edges or zoom with a pinch or the scroll wheel, and hold several at once. The button in its corner, Escape or a click on its trace hang it back.

👀 Use the line without leaving the display you are on
Rest the pointer in the menu bar and the line glides down. Click a photo to copy it, hold it to mark it up, or drag it into any app or folder. With the pointer on a photo, Space takes a quick look, as in Finder, and Delete does what its corner button does. Every other app keeps both keys. ⌘Z on a second display keeps the line there, instead of moving it to the screen the photo was first taken on.

🎯 Why it's worth watching
Use it if you take shots through the day and want them on a line you can copy, mark up, or drag out. Skip it if you wanted a timeline for editing a recording. Version 1.8.1 is the wait for a finished watched-folder file. The pin, Hang on Tendedero, and Hold actions are the October 31 release.

📝 A LaTeX paper still means a source buffer on one side and a PDF you refresh by hand. Texpile 1.6 edits the same file visually, and it completes most CTAN packages as you type.

Meet Texpile. GNU Affero General Public License v3.0, version 1.6.2, published 2026-10-24. The 1.6.0, 1.6.1, and 1.6.2 notes credit @louisqli. It is a desktop editor for LaTeX, Typst, and Markdown on macOS, Windows, and Linux.

✨ Edit the page, keep the file
The visual editor covers custom macros, multiline equations, commands, cell-merging tables, and images, and it uses Knuth-Plass line breaking. Open a .tex, .typ, or .md file directly. Version 1.6.0, published 2026-10-21, lets you edit math macros as LaTeX inside the visual editor, lines up wrapped list items under their text, and makes visual search match what the page shows.

📦 Complete commands from CTAN
LaTeX IntelliSense covers about 95% of the packages on CTAN, over 5,700 packages and 680 classes, and it can suggest completions and detect certain errors immediately. It reads the project's aux files, including custom macros. Typst completion comes from tinymist. Version 1.6.0 is the release that added IntelliSense for most CTAN packages and classes. Preferences in that version are grouped into collapsible sections.

⚡ Preview from the compiler you already have
Live preview hooks into the LuaLaTeX already installed on the machine, and many edits render in under 40 ms. Typst uses its own instant preview. Version 1.6.1, published 2026-10-22, adds invert page colors for live mode and an absolute theme. Version 1.6.2 fixes LaTeX error-log parsing. The other fix in that release is a glibc issue on Linux.

👀 Why it's worth watching
Use it if you write LaTeX or Typst on a Mac and want the visual page and the source in one offline app. Skip it if you only need a PDF preview: editing works without a compiler, and the compiler is what produces the PDF. Markdown needs neither.

📋 Boundaries
Free under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0: "a free, copyleft license". The Homebrew cask sets macOS to ">=13" and downloads Texpile-1.6.2.dmg. A TeX distribution (TeX Live, MacTeX, or MiKTeX) is required to compile LaTeX. Typst needs tinymist, which Texpile can install from Preferences › Toolchain.

🔌 Each OpenCode project was opening its own copy of the same MCP server. OpenCode Desktop 2.2.6 can share one connection, and it can start a scripted run in a new git worktree.

Meet OpenCode Desktop by opencode: MIT License, version 2.2.6, published 2026-11-06. It is the desktop client for a local AI coding agent, with sessions, diffs, and configurable model providers.

🔁 Share one MCP connection
Turn on pooling for an MCP server that uses the same setup across projects. Those projects share one connection, so you run fewer processes and start faster. Pooling is opt-in through pool: true.

🎨 Let a plugin bring its own theme
GUI plugins can add color themes, render or add actions to code blocks, and use native settings and menu components. A plugin side panel can set, read, and persist its preferred width.

🌿 Start a scripted run in a worktree
Run opencode run -w to start the session in a new git worktree, or pass --worktree=<name> to name it. That flag cannot be combined with --continue or --session.

📥 Keep CI runs out of the inbox
Add --archived to opencode run. The session is created already archived, so scripted and CI runs stay out of the inbox, home, and session lists. Archived sessions are also hidden from the TUI session list and skipped by --continue.

opencode run now waits for the background shell commands, subagents, and image jobs that its prompt started, then lets the model respond to their results before it exits. A job that never exits, such as a dev server, keeps the run open until you press Ctrl+C or send SIGTERM.

👀 Why it's worth watching
Use it if you already run the same MCP server in several projects, or if scripted runs were landing in the session list. Skip it if you only wanted a theme pack: themes here come from a GUI plugin, not from a built-in catalog.

📋 Boundaries
Free under the MIT License: "Permission is hereby granted, free of charge". The Homebrew cask requires macOS Ventura or newer, with separate Apple silicon and Intel builds. Model use still depends on the provider you connect.
