I was told that the next administration was going to be staffed with qualified technocrats after years of giving top jobs to unqualified loyalists, but it appears that the next administration is setting up an apparatus to “train” unqualified loyalists to work in the government??
Pretty good scoop from @jackiepeiser: Major philanthropic foundation is shopping a $2k fund that would fund @Janeese4DC transition, train appointees, and bankroll the nonprofits whose leaders it imagines might get top jobs. dc.citycast.fm/dc-politics/wa…

I wonder what Ron Hira thinks about the Trump Administration’s decision to end the 60 day period for H-1Bs to find another job.
Professors often describe H-1B workers as "indentured"
These scholars talk to real H1B workers to id their working conditions
Here's one example from Dr. Roli Varma of UNM

NEW: Anthropic's IPO considers U.S. restrictions to legal high-skilled immigration one of its biggest risks to growth in AI, new SEC filing shows:
"changes to immigration policies that restrain the flow of professional and technical talent, including but not limited to U.S. immigration policies, may inhibit our ability to recruit and retain highly qualified employees. If we are unable to effectively manage the foregoing risks, our prospects, business, financial condition, and results of operations could be adversely affected."

Most economists agree that the $100,000 OPT fee will "substantially weaken the ability of US universities to attract and retain top foreign students relative to other advanced economies."

I guess if you're a landlord that has no faith that the tenant will pay back their rent, you'll avoid court and take the option that allows taxpayers to help eat your losses. Seems like this will encourage more bad behavior from negligent tenants.
Every year, thousands of DC residents lose their homes over unpaid rent. Most owe less than $5,000. Going to court is stressful for tenants, expensive for landlords, and slows down the system. We need a better way to resolve rent issues. 🧵⬇️

Many people are struggling hard to pay rent but are actually managing paying rent. Can we make life easier for those people with reforms that help lower the cost of living and increase employment opportunities?

Lawyer here! I think lawyers claiming that non lawyers cannot parse legal text simply because they are non lawyers is undemocratic and false. Stick to the merits!
Jordan isn't a lawyer and evidently cannot parse legal text. His stated concern about overbreadth -- that this initiative would ban the sale of basically all fowl in DC -- is misplaced and downstream of his professional limitations.

I totally understand the *checks notes* reaction here. Sherrod Brown has long been a populist arch-protectionist.
But Trump is providing a golden opportunity for Democrats who were anti-trade in the past to quietly ditch those views. It’s worth a hope.

Barack Obama encourages voters to support *checks notes* Sherrod Brown so they can get freer trade.
