This is why the right to reverse engineer technology is so important. This right has been under attack for decades because technology had become so opaque only a tiny few could do this kind of work, but with LLM's this right is once again in the hands of many. Down with the DMCA!
WTF, $3000 Samsung TV has an always-on mic, automatic content recognition, geo tracking, network mapping, and ships your data to Samsung + 400 partners.

Bro Rooted a brand-new 2025 Samsung TV after noticing absurdly targeted ads.

Firmware was locked down, so zero-days it was. n found: always-on voice service, ACR, geo, full telemetry pipeline, and four separate DRM systems.

This isn’t a bug, It’s the product bro.

lol. This is what I mean by there is no “AI race”.

Whatever game is being played is: Americans being super serious scaremongering about China, while the Chinese undermine these distinctly American narratives about them by dropping open source models.
WTF. This is genuinely shameful and disturbing. A creator has exposed "Moonshot AI's Kimi K3.1 promotional brief". Under 'Narratives You Can Consider,' it suggests claiming that 'China just made Opus 5.5 free to use for everyone,' GPT-6 Sol is 'no comparison,' and Chinese just ONE MONTH behind US frontier models. It even invokes US chip restrictions to sell the narrative.

Now look at this GTA demo claiming Kimi built it for $51.98 versus over $500 for Astra/Opus 5.5. That's strikingly similar to the campaign's cost-comparison pitch. I've watched demos from creators I trust, like Bijan Bowen, and the model doesn't look nearly as GOOD as advertised. At this point, how can anyone distinguish independent reviews from paid marketing?

If Canada refused to trade with every country that fails to meet Canadian ethical, environmental, or human rights standards, our supply chains would collapse overnight. Practical foreign policy requires balancing ideal values with global reality. Pragmatism > purity.
Mark Carney defends engaging with Turkey despite its record on LGBTQ rights: "Engagement is not approval. There are very few countries in this world that have the standards of Canada, the rights of Canada, the conviction of Canada."

I'm getting really fucking tired of seeing people stand on a perch, with their whole chest, talk about shit they know fuck about.

*Everyone trades with China.
*Turkey is a NATO member.
*CDN citizens can still use Starlink
*CDN military will not.

We saw what Musk is capable of.
Carney aligns himself with evil regimes like China and Turkey yet won't risk using Starlink in Canada because of what Elon musk stands for.

I know it’s unusual for me to be this quiet during a provincial election.

I supported David Eby in the last election. But I’ve been deeply disappointed by his record as Premier and his performance throughout this campaign.

Frankly, he’s given British Columbians very few reasons to re-elect him.

I voted for him last time because there was no real alternative for Liberals, and I supported his government's pro-housing policies. The BC Conservatives, after all, were campaigning against Liberals as much as they were against New Democrats.

The BC Conservatives look considerably more credible than they did just a few months ago. But I remain deeply concerned about how far to the right many of their MLAs are. There are still people in that caucus who clearly admired Donald Trump and his way of doing politics.

One of my biggest concerns about a BC Conservative government is the possibility of a prolonged and entirely unnecessary confrontation with First Nations. That would be a terrible setback for reconciliation, economic development and the future of our province.

We need to be building partnerships, not picking fights. If the Conservatives win, I hope they send an early signal that they intend to approach these relationships seriously and constructively, rather than through an ideological lens.

Given the recent municipal election results, I also worry about a Conservative government picking a fight with the City of Vancouver, where I live. In particular, I worry about possible cuts to supportive housing that could leave even more people homeless. Vancouver has enough challenges without the provincial government making them worse.

The Greens have become too radical, OneBC are racists, and Centre BC hasn't punched through.

So I find myself dissatisfied with the choices before us.

More than anything, I hope British Columbia will one day have a credible, centrist, Liberal-branded alternative that believes in economic growth, social progress and bringing people together.

We certainly need one.

This use of AI, the kind where it’s actively being used to survey and suppress the rights of Canadians, must be made unambiguously illegal.

update: the facial recognition code is used by samsung tv's and returns bounded boxes around faces.
code for facial recognition within the content was also found, investigating if this is used by their background services or if it's stock opencv code.

scans for bounding boxes in apps to track your usage can load new modules over time to expand coverage.

this is like 1 out of 50 things so far, and we're only just getting started.

No. It’s because he’s being an asshole
Lol - Vivek is primarily losing because he is a dark-skinned Indian on a Republican ticket. He must spend most of his effort convincing the rightoid base to vote for him. Acton, on the other hand, can take the D base for granted and focus on independent swing voters. Every week, Vivek looks pathetic groveling to the conservative base, pleading that he does not worship demons and has read the Bible, etc. He couldn’t even issue a statement on the mass-shooting attempt at the Hindu temple for fear of seeming too close to the Hindu community. His latest attempt emulating Trump’s crass attack ads just convinced independent swing voters to steer clear of him. Game over.

Reinventing Sanskrit from first principles
coding languages were invented to remove ambiguity and provide greater specificity and control over outcomes, which was necessary to make machine outputs consistent and reliable

now we have natural language systems and people are relearning the same lesson all over again

“type safety” being introduced to AI is just one step in the reformalization of language, and the emergence of new programming languages, this time one abstraction level higher

Excellent, now we can all come around to my pet issue: regulating Dark UX patterns
I now see the danger in “humanizing” AI with human names and human qualities. Millions of people do not have the cognitive sophistication to handle this and millions will have deep AI psychosis in five years. I believe AI should be presented in a sterile UI as much as possible
