Representation by population isn’t “gerrymandering,” you absolute numpty.

It’s in fact the basis of our liberal democracy and the constitution.
In the 2023 election, the UCP won 53% to 44%.

But had it been just 1% different (52% to 45%) the NDP would have been government.

If anything, the current map is massively gerrymandered in favour of the NDP.

Restoring balance is not the same as gerrymandering it the other way.

The UCP are going to gerrymander Lethbridge in to oblivion because they need, in the Premier’s Chief of Staff’s words, to “level the playing field.”

They can’t out-work the Lethbridge NDP, they got their asses beat 4 times in a row, so now they figure they need to cheat to win.
Total garbage. @DonBraid is literally just regurgitating exactly what is NDP buddies are telling him. Would be nice if he represented both sides of an issue for once.

One of the most respected court of appeal justices in Alberta history is chairing the boundary committee. It’s a lie to say that it’s the UCP. The maps aren’t even available yet (though clearly leaked to the NDP by someone).

In addition, Judge Miller and half the NDP caucus complained that there should be 2 additional seats added to account for population growth. So that was done and left to the independent judge-led committee to figure out how to do it. I assume they have done so.

Further, last election the NDP lost the popular vote by almost 10 percent and still almost ended up winning the most seats. So obviously they don’t want any change whatsoever that could level the playing field.

How do you explain that Don? Did the NDP gerrymander the map last go around under Notley? Was the 2023 election undemocratic too?

The UCP isn’t making that claim because it’s disrespectful of the people - including the judge - who did the hard work of determining those past boundaries.

Your bias is so clear Don. It’s disturbing.

The Lethbridge NDP has always put-worked, out-hustled, out-advocated, out-represented the UCP in the city.

Conservatives don’t want to work to win, so they’ll cheat instead.

…and unless the province is now going to undertake electoral reform and institute proportional representation, their argument about vote efficiency in a single-member-plurality system is just noise coming from the stupidest people you know.

Danielle Smith admitted in the Legislature these are real.
ALBERTA MEDIA ALERT 🚨

What none of the Media are understanding is how involved Danielle Smith was behind the scenes in manipulating the petition and referendum process.

Prior to the November 2025 AGM Danielle Smith Would text Jeff Rath on a relatively regular basis.

On t a text to Jeff Rath by mistake that was obviously meant for Thomas Lukaszuk.

The text said

“Told you not to submit until the new rules came in. This has to be conducted under the old thresholds”

This text was sent AFTER Lukaszuk had submitted his petition under the old rules and Lukaszuk was already Lobbying to have his petition be permitted to meet the lower signature threshold under the new rules.

Rath responded to Smith by saying that Smith had obviously intended that text for Thomas Lukaszuk.

Smith, obviously flustered tried to lie her way out of it claiming :

“No I meant to send it to you. I told you and Mitch to wait until the new rules came in and it sounds like you did”

The problem with that explanation is that Smith never told Rath anything about waiting until the new rules came in. We were doing it in any event.

The obvious context of this text and the timing of it that Smith was colluding with Lukaszuk to rig the petition process and subsequent referendum against her base in favour of the Forever Canadians.

Of course if what Smith was saying about NOT accidentally sending a text meant for Lukaszuk to Rath (which is less likely) this gives support to what people were saying at the time about Smith being a secret separatist. (which looks even less likely)

The simple fact is that on either formulation - manipulative secret federalist or manipulative secret separatist, SMITH is unelectable.

Understanding who she is as a person, who in their right mind would ever vote for her ever again, on either side of this debate.

Danielle Smith needs to cheat to beat the NDP in Lethbridge.

Time to go to court.
Jesus Christ - watching the Alberta Leg committee on the boundaries change, @nenshi confirmed the UCP is going to split Lethbridge up (likely the four way split we saw in the minority maps) and the Calgary rural-urban split seats.

Shameful @ABDanielleSmith, dirty cheater. #ableg

The gerrymandering has come out in Alberta.

It means the end of 15 years of work on a level playing field for Lethbridge New Democrats.

Profoundly illiberal, undemocratic, and a disgrace for every person involved in this fiasco.
Some pretty wild takeaways from today's electoral boundaries committee meeting:

Lethbridge would be split into FOUR ridings instead of its current two urban ones. Three would combine city neighbourhoods with surrounding rural areas.

Three urban-rural hybrid ridings are proposed along Calgary's northwest and western edges. Springbank gets split up. Kathleen Ganley questioned why the panel was citing GOLF COURSES to justify its boundaries.

Okotoks and Diamond Valley would be split apart, with Diamond Valley paired with Banff. The panel's dissenting members say public submissions overwhelmingly favoured keeping them together.

Ganley says Calgary and Edmonton ridings would average 7,000 more residents per MLA than ridings outside those cities. That's a 14 percent difference.

The NDP wanted to put its concerns about the maps on the record. UCP MLAs voted 3–2 to end the committee's review before those motions could even be considered.

The NDP also wanted taxpayers to know how much the panel and its outside consultants were paid. UCP MLAs voted that down too. Ganley says the panel chair gets an extra $5,000/month on top of regular pay.

The UCP says the maps should be debated in the Legislature once they're public. The NDP wanted the committee to scrutinize them now.

Meanwhile, Albertans still haven't seen the maps. The report is due November 2.

There’s a huge gap between what Albertans want and need and what the UCP think is their mandate.

Good ad.
So that’s why she’s not actually helping Alberta families with health care, affordability, education or creating good jobs...

Danielle Smith is wasting our time and money on the wrong priorities.

How about telling people to get vaccinated?

Get your Covid and flu vaccines, Albertans.
Respiratory virus season means busier hospitals, and we want to make sure they’re ready. Saturday, I joined Premier Danielle Smith, Minister Nathan Neudorf and Acute Care Alberta CEO Dr. Sayeh Zielke to share what we’re doing to prepare.

Alberta now has a record high of more paces across the province, and we’re building on that capacity to help hospitals handle the extra demand.

Along with preparing additional hospital spaces, our capacity task force is looking for ways to expand even further. We’re also helping patients move into care settings that better meet their needs and bringing physicians into emergency department waiting areas so patients can be assessed and treated sooner.

These steps will help ease pressure on our hospitals, give health care teams the support they need and make sure Albertans can get the care they need, when they need it.

I don't get why so many on the left and the right point to ideology being at the heart of the BC results, when the evidence points to "BC NDP made a cynical election call and NDP voters stayed home" as the real factor.
A warning to all of the NDP - if you govern from the centre and not as Democratic Socialists - you risk this. The Bob Rae curse.

After 9 years of the BCNDP, we finally have normal, fair labour laws in BC.

Labour laws that are consistent with the federal Labour Code and even consistent with what the federal Conservatives now vote for and support.

Let’s keep it that way for the next four years.
We can build a better world.

When we fight for it.

When we organize for it.

Let’s keep going.

Turns out:
1. Ideas matter
2. Telling a story about your govt matters
3. *Selling* yourself, your govt & your team matters, it’s not somehow beneath you
4. Voters don’t like feeling someone’s trying to pull a fast one on them
5. Relying on MSM to get your msg out = govt death
The @Conservative_BC actually received 50,000 fewer votes than in 2024 (but won 20 more seats) because the @bcndp vote dropped by 275.000 (29%) while the @BCGreens got 23,000 more votes than last time (+13%) - still some ballots to be counted.

Put a pin in this for a few weeks from now in British Columbia…
Brazil’s results tonight are a big endorsement for the idea that every country should have a second “are you you sure about that” election a couple weeks after the first one for the important stuff

It’s often a good thing for Canadians that the Americans are so stupid they don’t know anything about us.

Like, for example, they have no idea what kind of unique coalition the BC Liberals were and wouldn’t know a SoCred from an old shoe.
