Two very different journeys. One uncomfortable question: Why do we punish the people who expose wrongdoing instead of holding those responsible to account?
On Wednesday 21 October at 9pm UK time, I'll be joined live by former CIA officer and whistleblower @JohnKiriakou for a true cost of speaking out.
John helped expose the CIA's use of waterboarding. He subsequently found himself prosecuted, imprisoned and confronting the consequences of challenging one of the world's most powerful intelligence agencies.
My own journey has been very different. Through my work supporting whistleblowers, including my late friend @SAndriesz , I've witnessed how challenging powerful organisations can destroy careers, finances, relationships and mental health.
Different institutions. Different circumstances. But some remarkably similar questions.
Why do those exposing wrongdoing so often find themselves under greater scrutiny than those accused of committing it?
What role do lawyers play in protecting institutions rather than uncovering the truth?
And perhaps most importantly, can organisations such as the CIA and the Financial Conduct Authority genuinely investigate their own failings, or does accountability require independent scrutiny?
We'll explore the human cost of whistleblowing, the failures of institutional accountability and what needs to change.
This won't be a scripted interview. It will be an open conversation between two people whose very different experiences have brought them face to face with some uncomfortable realities.

ANOTHER EPSTEIN WHISTLEBLOWER IS DEAD. WHAT HAPPENED TO SIMON ANDRIESZ?
Simon Andriesz, a British banker and whistleblower linked to the Jeffrey Epstein story, has died. He brought information to the FBI and later to Congress involving BGC, Cantor Fitzgerald, and Howard Lutnick, erful officials in the Trump administration.
This was not someone making claims online without evidence. Federal regulators acted on information he provided.
Andriesz later reviewed Epstein records and found 2018 emails between Lutnick and Epstein discussing a company called ADFIN, in which both men had investment ties.
He took his findings to the House Oversight Committee. Congressional investigators later questioned Lutnick behind closed doors about his contact with Epstein.
Lutnick denies wrongdoing and denies having the ongoing relationship with Epstein that reports allege.
Andriesz is not the first person at the center of the Epstein story to die before the case’s major questions were resolved.
Jeffrey Epstein himself died in jail in 2019 while awaiting federal trial; his death was ruled a suicide.
Model Ruslana Korshunova, later reported to have visited Epstein’s island, died in 2008; her death was ruled a suicide.
Jean-Luc Brunel, an Epstein associate awaiting trial in France, died in jail in 2022; his death was ruled a suicide.
Steven Hoffenberg, Epstein’s former business associate, was found dead at home in 2022.
Carolyn Andriano, an Epstein victim and Maxwell trial witness, died in 2023; her death was ruled an accidental overdose.
Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein’s most prominent accusers, died in 2025. Her family said she died by suicide; police said the death was not suspicious, though no final public coronial ruling has been issued.
Investigative journalist and Andriesz associate John Robertson joins to discuss his legacy, his whistleblowing, and the questions his death leaves behind.

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of whistleblower Simon Andriesz, following the incredibly sad news of his passing.
We've asked non-executive director Lea Paterson to review how we interacted with Mr Andriesz, to see whether we could have done things better and learn for the future.
It's important that people feel confident coming to us with their concerns and we’re grateful so many do.

This programme went out tonight, discussing Simon’s life, his whistleblowing and what happened to him.
I have also seen some people questioning the validity of the fundraiser for Simon’s son on the basis that Simon was supposedly a wealthy man.
That misunderstands the reality.
ed by a lawyer, and much of the money he later received through awards and settlements was swallowed up by years of legal fees and the cost of fighting his cases.
The fundraiser is not for Simon. It is for his son, and every penny raised is intended to support him following the loss of his father.
Whatever people may assume about Simon’s previous earnings or the headline value of awards he received, that was not the financial reality he left behind. messsage by @J_Robertson_UK

I am the British whistleblower who reported evidence concerning Howard Lutnick, his links to Jeffrey Epstein, and Cantor Fitzgerald and BGC to the FBI in 2020–21.
Listen to the BBC File on 4 documentary about my whistleblower story:

BBC News:

I later shared evidence with the House Oversight Committee, which subsequently questioned Lutnick behind closed doors.
My disclosures also contributed to regulatory action in the US and UK, including a £96m HMRC tax assessment relating to BGC’s partnership scheme. I believe the true tax exposure is substantially higher.
I also reported to the FBI and financial regulators matters involving Cantor Fitzgerald’s Relief Fund and BGC/Cantor’s annual 9/11 Charity Day.
The personal consequences of whistleblowing, and the retaliation I say followed, have been devastating for my family and me.
Mother Jones previously reported that documents I uncovered revealed a years-long business tie between Howard Lutnick, Cantor Fitzgerald and Jeffrey Epstein through AdFin, including a 2018 exchange in which Lutnick and Epstein discussed the company directly:

If Lutnick is not asked about this when he testifies in Congress today, it would be profound negligence. Here’s proof that he lied about his relationship with Epstein and had deeper financial ties with the sex criminal than he admitted.
