The spooky season begins tomorrow with Hallowe’en (and the CFL payoffs), followed by the chaos of time changes as DST ends (fall back an hour) in some places, and then Trump’s Mid-Terms Nov3. By Thursday, we’ll need the uplift of a cheerful Federal Budget.🍁

The Prime Minister has had a busy and productive week. In light of the existential threat posed by Mr. Trump’s trade war (and other factors like America’s softness toward Putin), Canada is clearly not just waiting around …

This is truly heartfelt! For years, the Princess Pats were intensely engaged at British Army bases helping prepare thousands of Ukrainian troops to defend their country against Russian aggression. The quality of that training is a key reason why the Russians have been stalled.
Every loss of life is a tragedy. Canada has done so much to help us protect lives in Ukraine, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to Prime Minister @MarkJCarney and all Canadians following the explosion and fire at the military base in Wainwright. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those lost, and we wish a swift recovery to the injured.

The Economist is always interesting:
Smaller countries need to prepare for a dangerous world. They should look to Canada (and its prime minister) for an answer on what to do bit.ly/4zwKfVg

Good points, @jkenney! Those US farmers and their Congressional reps that you refer to in your point #5 should be just thrilled to become dependent upon Belarus for their potash supplies! Truly bizarre!
1) Saskatchewan has the world’s largest potash deposits, producing twice as much potash as Belarus. 85% of US potash imports come from Saskatchewan, efficiently and reliably shipped by rail.

2) Belarus is a brutal dictatorship and puppet state for Vladimir Putin under international (including American) sanctions for gross human rights abuses.

3) Belarusian potash production has been fully contracted to Asian buyers (eg China and India) since the imposition of western sanctions. Belarusian dictator Lukashenko has already said "Even if we wanted to supply somewhere else, Western markets, we just don't have those volumes, everything has been contracted."

4) The US Government does not buy potash. US fertilizer companies and ag producers do. Those private sector buyers have consistently demonstrated their preference for Canadian potash.

5) President Trump tariffed Canadian potash early in 2025, then backed off days later following loud protests from American ag producers and their Congressional representatives.

When I was HC in London, it was a huge honour on this weekend each yr to launch the Terry Fox Run UK - it grew exponentially in venues/participants - due to its passionate volunteer organizers, the huge importance of the cause, and the inspiration of a magnificent young Canadian!

Terry became the youngest Companion of the Order of Canada in a special ceremony in his hometown of Port Coquitlam, BC. ❤️🇨🇦

Well said:
Today, we pause to remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and honour the innocent lives lost, including Canadian citizens. We also reflect on the bravery of the first responders who intervened that day and in the days to come.

For much of the time I was stationed in the UK, the musical “Come From Away” was playing to packed houses in London’s West End. More than any adroit act of diplomacy, this performance about the heart, human instincts and basic decency of Canadians speaks volumes about who we are!

A memorable Lady whose impact endures!
Today we remember Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II who died four years ago, on this day in 2022.

As a royal church, Westminster Abbey had a special relationship with the Queen. Over the course of her life, she came here often for state occasions and national services, and ant moments of her life took place here.

Interesting and important.

Keep calm, carry on, stay focused on what really matters.
Most Americans didn't support Trump's tariffs on Canada. And more Americans approved of Mark Carney's retaliation than disapproved.⁣

Americans are siding with Canadians against their own government's trade policy. That tells you something about how badly this played. youtu.be/pO8b9CzyEdU
