But can we agree that promoting LNG and mineral exports out of a mostly ice-covered port in Churchill using icebreaking, is a lot riskier than sending double hulled oil tankers out of Prince Rupert, which can already accommodate shipping containers that carry 50,000 barrels/8000 m3 of petroleum fuel in their own tanks?
Can we agree there are different standards being applied for political, rather than scientific or technical, reasons?

According to Le Monde, citing sources, U.S. special envoy Witkoff held a tense meeting in Florida on October 9 with Budanov, head of Ukraine’s Presidential Office.
Sources claimed that Witkoff spoke to Budanov “like a child,” trying to “teach” him how to make money.
Witkoff proposed a postwar “regional prosperity plan” that included fully restoring Russian oil and gas transit to Europe through Ukrainian territory.
Witkoff argued that Ukraine would earn transit revenues while Europe would benefit from lower energy costs.
Budanov reportedly replied that Ukraine’s model is “not Belarus, but Poland,” then stepped out to call President Zelenskyy, who advised him not to show any reaction.
When the talks resumed, the Ukrainian side was shown a document outlining a U.S.-Russia diesel deal.
An irritated Witkoff reportedly said: “Accept this diesel deal and stop striking Russian oil refineries — you are putting the world at risk!”
Ukrainian participants were described as shocked, viewing the plan as creating dependency on Moscow and noting that the United States appeared to have secured nothing in return from Putin.
A source close to the delegation told Le Monde: “I have never seen the Ukrainians so stunned and alarmed after a meeting.”
Analysts contrasted the episode with the February 28, 2025 Oval Office incident, saying this one involves concrete policy decisions that could affect Ukraine’s ability to defend itself ahead of a potentially harsh winter.

I mean, this wasn't the Mariel boatlift bringing in escapees of Communism looking for a better life, this was the public sector funding the higher ed sector by bringing in de-facto temporary foreign workers and calling them "students".

I’ve always wondered how the Liberals, obsessed with “gender based analysis plus,” ignored the huge gender imbalance created by their out of control immigration policies.
The Canadian government can't just give all temporary residents PR unless they want to permanently entrench this gender imbalance into our demographics.
It's pickle. This is what happens when temp residents skew overwhelmingly male and prior govt had no handle on the situation

A crisis of their own making.
I lost count of the number of EU diplomats I met over the years who would haughtily sneer at Alberta’s “dirty” oil & gas industry, and offer homilies about decarbonization, climate policy, and net zero.
Now, after two decades of green lunacy, Europe is getting mugged by reality.

European Commission sounds the alarm (now !!!) about the number of oil refineries closing in the region over the last 20 years. "We need to counter this trend," says EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen. "This crisis is a wake-up call." Quite.

This thread makes a common fundamental error - it ignores demographics. The housing demand from a 30 day old is different than a 30 year old.
An unplanned surge in the adult population has a different impact than an unexpectedly high number of births.

It is not a declaration of war.
I’m not sure when both the right and the left decided to start throwing these terms around but it’s irresponsible, dangerous, and not productive in the least.
I watched @TheRealKeean talk about going to war, now I’m seeing Grand Chief Stewart Phillip do the same.
This is legislation, and it must reflect the expectations of voters - that’s how democracy works. British Columbians voted for the BC Conservatives and part of their campaign was to repeal it, and citizens voted for it.
If after an election, you don’t like the result and the policies - you shouldn’t start viewing that as a declaration of war.
It’s democracy in action.
If my members voted for a new Chief, with a different vision, I don’t get to call that an act an act of war - I respect the results and seek to work with the new leader on their path.

Headline is a bit torqued. He didn’t oppose it either. Here is Doerkson’s statement:
“Our government’s focus is on the project in front of us. Pacific Link has been declared in the national interest, it takes a southern route, and it will create good jobs across British Columbia.”
It’s a touchy issue and if I were them I would do some engagement and pulse taking too.

One of the many reasons Europe will fall behind on AI and supercomputing infrastructure:
- used green alarmism to offshore energy dependency to Russia and Qatar, spent hundreds of billions on state subsidized ‘renewables’ made in China that fail to provide baseload power.
- now euro households spend way too much for basic heat and air conditioning and cooking
- and the Chinese - who massively expanded global emissions by more than the Europeans reduced it - lead Europe on low cost energy outcomes in manufacturing and computing power.
Europe has resources but green alarmist ideology has made the entire continent poorer and more dependent on Russia, Qatar, and China.

COLUMN: Canada takes a page from the Saudi oil playbook
After years of debating how quickly to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels, Canada is now looking for ways to produce and export more of them. I sat down with Canada's Energy Minister Tim Hodgson to discuss the country's t is being driven by two geopolitical shocks, both courtesy of US President Donald Trump. First, there’s the tariff war kicked off at the beginning of Trump’s second term, which exposed the risks of overreliance on any one trading partner. Then there’s the US war with Iran, which reminded energy importers of the dangers of depending too heavily on any one region – particularly a volatile one.
Together, they are pushing Ottawa to embrace a new role as a major energy supplier, one it has long seemed reluctant to play despite its vast natural resources.
As Canada looks to expand its trading alliances, it is learning a lesson from an unlikely source: Saudi Arabia.
Thank you @Rory_Johnston for your great insights.

“The entire purpose of a genocide is to push civilians into the killing zone.
Think about what happened in the Holocaust, where children in line at Auschwitz were given bars of soap, where inside of the gas chambers there were fake shower heads.
What was the point?
It was to trick and induce civilians to get in to the killing zone so that you could kill more of them more efficiently over time.
Israel has done the very opposite—warning civilians and then manning humanitarian corridors with its own soldiers, risking its own sons’ and daughters’ lives to ensure that civilians get out of the killing zone.”
