missed opportunity for Gooniverse tbh
From last night’s Breaker: Daniel Kolitz, whose Harper’s piece “The Goon Squad” won a National Magazine Award for Feature Writing, has landed a book deal with Farrar, Straus and Giroux to write “GOONWORLD.”

The Starlink/Starshield blame game continues, and no one is taking responsibility for limiting the satellite internet services to Ukrainians. Musk last week said the decision was with Trump. Now, Rubio says that Musk had the decision-making power.

Nobody wants to own up to crippling Ukraine's military communications: Marco Rubio is now stating that SpaceX has the ability to modify the operation of Starshield without the direction or consent of the American government.

the reporting and photography, including of this Madagascar child drinking from a gold mine's waste water pipe, is incredible. the story is infuriating.

There are about 72 million kids under the age of 18 in the US. SpaceX's closing share price on Friday was $146.03.
If Musk were to actually follow through on this commitment, his gift would currently amount to around $10.5 billion.

Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America.
This will be the first of many.

Also worth noting that Musk has a history of making philanthropic pledges and not following through.
In 2018, he pledged to “fund fixing the water in any house in Flint that has water contamination above FDA levels.” He did not.

For the first time this year, data centers have become targets for bombardment in global conflicts.
Our analysis shows at least 27 such attacks in 2026.
Experts worry the targeting of data centers opens a Pandora's box that cannot be closed.

Isaacson had unmatched access to Musk for years and wrote a book that completely missed his rightward turn toward Trumpism. He also spent part of that time giving business advice to Musk.
For two years, @WalterIsaacson lived in an Airstream next to Elon Musk while writing his biography.
Isaacson didn't want a book built on a series of interviews. Instead, he got near-constant access to observe Musk firsthand.
That's how he saw Musk's "demon mode" up close.
s the mood swings:
"He gets really dark and really difficult. He just goes silent."
"There are people like Gwynne Shotwell and [Tesla design chief] Franz von Holzhausen who know how to push him out of demon mode. He also knows how to get himself together when he goes on stage."
"It depends on what's crossing his mind at the moment. It's almost like a storm cloud coming in off the Gulf."
"There'd be times I'd watch him go into demon mode. I'd be sitting at dinner at a restaurant in Austin and Grimes would be next to me, and she'd say, 'Oh, demon mode's about to come.'"
"I'd watch people text Gwynne to come run into the conference room when he's about to kill Falcon Heavy or something."
And he doesn't think Musk has gotten any less mercurial, either.

X has made a comeback with some communities, namely AI and tech, but it is not Twitter of old.
On X, users have been spreading the name of a woman they think is Cornell's Jane Doe. One particular post doxed a woman's address and phone numbers and was viewed 1.4 million times.

On X, users have circulated nonconsenual AI videos created by Grok of a woman they think is Jane Doe. They continue to spread her name.
People have praised X for staying relevant with the AI and tech communities and fostering conversation. But it also is the main vector for a doxing.
And that is X.
