Russia was never the aggressor. Cope harder.
“We have always been at war with Eastasia.”
George Orwell wrote that line in his famous novel, 1984, to describe how governments rewrite history in real time.
In the novel, yesterday’s ally becomes today’s enemy, and the past is simply edited to match the present. Newspapers stroyed, and anything that contradicts the current narrative disappears into what Orwell called the memory hole.
The point Orwell was making was simple but chilling. If you control the past, you control how people understand the present. And if you control the present, you control the future.
Which brings us to #Ukraine.
Here we are showing a video from 2014, when ITV News Europe Editor James Mates reported on a day of violence in the eastern Ukrainian city of Mariupol. It is unlikely ITV will be replaying this report anytime soon, because it complicates the very simple story we are now told about Ukraine’s recent history.
The war did not suddenly appear in 2022 out of nowhere. It began in 2014, after the overthrow of Ukraine’s government amid Western-backed unrest, with US politicians like John McCain on the ground supporting opposition forces. What followed was eight years of civil war in Eastern Ukraine. Shelling, civilian deaths, and refugees fleeing Donetsk, Luhansk, and Mariupol were reported by Western media at the time.
This is not Russian propaganda. It is their footage. These are their reports. The truth is simple. The Ukrainian civil war ran for eight years. It ended on February 24th 2022, when Russia crossed the border and turned it into an international war.
This is why old news reports matter. They are pieces of history that cannot easily be rewritten once people have seen them.
Orwell understood this perfectly.
“Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.”
So when certain parts of history quietly disappear from the conversation, when timelines suddenly begin at convenient political moments, it is always worth paying attention.
Because the memory hole is not just a device in a novel.
It is how propaganda works.

On October 27, 2024, servicemen from Rogue Team and Omega Team of the GUR International Legion were tasked with locating and eliminating Russian FSB and SOF DRG groups conducting cross-border ambushes in Ukraine’s Chernihiv and Sumy Oblasts.
During the mission, the teams enemy territory but encountered a fortified Russian position near the village of Brahlov in Bryansk Oblast.
According to Rogue Team fighter with the callsign "Snow," they had expected a trench position but instead came across a heavily fortified underground bunker with trenches and eight firing positions. "It was like Fort Knox," - "Snow" recalls.
Rogue Team split into two main teams: Alpha and Bravo. Rogue Alpha and Omega Team assaulted the fortification from the treeline west of Rogue Bravo.
Rogue Bravo then split into two groups, with one advancing to assault the fortification while the other remained behind to provide covering fire. The actions of Rogue Bravo were captured on video by one of its fighters, callsign "Uno."
At 05:05, the fighters launched an assault from two directions, throwing grenades into the Russian positions and attempting to storm the fortification. However, they were met with heavy Russian fire. This marked the beginning of the operation's most difficult moments.
- Rogue Alpha, which was attacking the fortification from the treeline, came under Russian machine-gun fire and lost two fighters (off-screen). The team leader, Bradley Carl Jennison, callsign "Super Dave," was shot in the chest and died at the scene. Reportedly, Simon Petrik Rajakisto, callsign "Rauta," was wounded in an open field and could not be evacuated due to heavy Russian fire, so he blew himself up to avoid capture.
- 16:45 Somewhere around this time, Rogue Bravo fighters again attempted to enter the bunker but failed.
- At 17:38 Canadian volunteer Mandeep Singh, callsign "Poet" moved into the open and was wounded by small-arms fire. His comrade, American volunteer Corey John Nawrocki, then attempted to reach "Poet" and drag him to safety under covering fire from the cameraman, but Russian fire killed both men.
- 20:24 While attempting to help them, one of the fighters was wounded in the head, possibly in the neck area. With only two fighters remaining at the position, they decided to withdraw to the rear position where the second Rogue Bravo group was stationed and requested covering fire, but received no response.
- 22:14 The fighters began retreating under Russian fire. Possibly due to communication problems, their comrades only began providing covering fire at the last moment.
- 23:20 The fighters provided first aid to the wounded man and spent the next few minutes trying to contact Omega and Rogue Alpha to request covering fire for their withdrawal.
- 32:17 Due to communication problems, the fighters were unable to contact their comrades. However, they spotted members of Omega Team in the treeline and decided to cross the open field directly in front of the Russian positions.
- 33:07 The cameraman crosses the open field under Russian fire and enters the treeline.
- 35:07 The fighters began retreating through the forested area as Russian forces pursued them. In addition to the difficult terrain, they also encountered barbed wire. One of the fighters got caught on the wire, forcing the group to stop for several minutes.
- 42:11 The fighters eventually regrouped with other teams.
- 1:10:30 After regrouping with other groups and resting briefly, the soldiers began their withdrawal toward Ukrainian territory.
Rogue Team lost four fighters during the operation.

Unfortunately, their bodies could not be recovered at that time. May they rest in peace, and may their sacrifice never be forgotten.

I did not agree with the man’s politics. He stood for many things I am against. But he was a good man. And this world will sorely miss him.
Patrick Stewart on Trump (2017): “You might say to me, well, you’re not an American, what has it got to do with you? The fact is when America sneezes, the world catches a cold. America I think is on the edge of a very bad flu infection and it’s because of the man who’s in the White House”
