Crypto agility matters because no one can prove today’s post-quantum schemes will hold forever. If one fails, systems need a way to switch without starting over.

"You can't wait for 2029 or 2030… if it's 2029, 30, we're already late."

Enterprises are sitting on $5 trillion of IT infrastructure that isn't quantum safe.

The Quantum Alliance launched to define quantum readiness

Ten contributors from nine organizations, including Quantus CEO @YuviLightman, launched the Quantum Alliance, an open standards body for post-quantum readiness in blockchain.

It will publish a antum readiness, open test criteria, and reference designs for migration.

Starknet opened a vote on researching an exit from Ethereum

@Starknet opened a non-binding poll on whether to research becoming an independent post-quantum L1. Starknet targets full quantum resistance by 2027, and its bridge and data availability currently move on Ethereum’s schedule.

A Yes vote starts research only. The poll closes October 22.

AI designed more efficient quantum circuits

@AnthropicAI, working with researchers from Harvard and @QueraComputing, had Claude design circuits for eight quantum computing tasks. Each design beat the best previously published one.

One design for elliptic-curve point addition, the core step in quantum attacks on ECDSA, uses 17 times fewer gates than the smallest previous design. It reduces what a quantum algorithm needs to run.

Google made a key quantum ingredient far more reliable

Quantum computers need special “magic states” to run the full range of algorithms, including the kind that could one day break today’s encryption. They’re hard to make. Earlier estimates said producing them could take up to 95% of a machine’s qubits.

In a paper published in Science, Google showed a new method on its Willow chip that cut errors in these states about 40-fold. Google says it still has to work at larger scale.

Singapore set quantum-safe deadlines

Singapore’s Cyber Security Agency asked critical infrastructure operators to submit migration plans by March 2027 and finish migrating by the end of 2031. Other exposed organizations are encouraged to finish by 2035.

A grant for quantum-safe pilots opens November 1.

Germany set its own post-quantum timeline

Germany’s interior ministry, digital ministry, and federal security agency BSI published a national guideline implementing the EU’s post-quantum roadmap. High-risk systems should be quantum-safe by the end of 2030, with the rest largely migrated by 2035.

It also calls for crypto-agility, so cryptography can be swapped quickly as threats change.

Governments are setting dates. Researchers are making quantum computers easier to build and their algorithms cheaper to run.

Last week in quantum

Quantus’s QTC opened to cross-chain access through NEAR Intents

$QTC went live on near.com, powered by @near_intents, opening a route from more than 180 assets across 30+ chains into $QTC.

Quantus and NEAR brought the privacy & quantum migrre

Quantus hosted Quantum & Privacy Day with @NEARProtocol on October 8, during TOKEN2049 week.

The second QDay event brought together cryptographers, protocol builders, and investors to discuss post-quantum signatures, blockchain migration, and privacy.

Project Eleven launched Strongpoint for post-quantum custody

@projecteleven introduced Strongpoint, its institutional custody platform. @ZcashFoundation and Quantus joined as development partners.

Zcash support is targeted for Q4 2026, and Quantus support for Q1 2027.

Europol told crypto to start preparing for post-quantum migration

@Europol published a report on quantum computing and cryptocurrencies. It identifies the public-key cryptography that controls wallets and authorizes transactions as the main exposure.

It said the timing of Q-Day should not be the main concern, because adapting systems and coordinating upgrades will take time.

Ethereum researchers raised AI as a second risk to cryptography

@drakefjustin said AI-driven math could break ECDSA, the signature scheme that secures Bitcoin and Ethereum, “in the worst case in months not years.” He called on the industry to plan a move to fresh addresses whose public keys have not been exposed.

@VitalikButerin agreed that ECDSA might fall faster than expected. He also said he does not recommend that anyone scramble to move funds today.

Starknet is considering becoming an L1

@Starknet said it is actively considering becoming an L1, with 2027 as its target for full quantum resistance.

Starknet already uses hash-based STARK proofs. No transition has been approved.

DARPA moved four more quantum architectures into final verification

Atom Computing, Diraq, IBM, and IonQ joined Microsoft and PsiQuantum in the final stage of DARPA’s Quantum Benchmarking Initiative.

The stage moves from reviewing designs to physical testing of whether these machines can be built and perform as claimed.

Post-quantum migration is starting to change how networks are built.

Regulators are asking for migration plans, and networks are reconsidering both their structure and their cryptography.

This is what the start of a transition looks like.
