Today, we present Zcash Labs.

An independent organization focused on solving technical integration challenges for businesses and institutions interested in Zcash.

We are also funding and supporting teams and infrastructure that help solve real world adoption on zcash.

Our ude:

- Technical integrations and support for businesses and institutions
- Running mission critical and privacy protecting zcash infrastructure
- Supporting new projects that expand real adoption of Zcash usage

We have already been helping independent Zcash-focused teams move from ideation to launched products, including initial grants to help get their work off the ground.

And we are proud to announce that one of the teams is already ready, launched, and available.

zcashtocash:

@zcashtocash makes it easier to convert Zcash to fiat currency. It uses Peer to facilitate peer-to-peer conversions, with enclaves releasing ZEC only after the fiat payment has been verified.

It supports 6 fiat apps as of now, and 100+ geographies, with a wider range of support coming as the Peer protocol expands.

We have already been operating for some time and supporting teams such as zcashtocash.

We also have more projects and integrations to announce. Follow us on twitter, and stay tuned to our blog for latest from Zcash Labs.

Introducing Zigner.

A remote, safe Zcash signer that runs on air-gapped commodity hardware! No need to acquire hardware wallets with complex supply chains.

The signer follows the keystone protocol, but you can install it on air-gapped iPhones and graphene OS Androids.
transactions is as simple as just scanning QR codes! No need to ever connect to the internet.

I know the video and UI are rough, but I was so excited that I couldn't wait on sharing it, it all gets better from here.

WARNING: This is an early prototype, it will now get polished and delivered. Please do not use it to custody any real funds! This version is not safe to custody real funds.

What is next? and the early source code? look at the comment 👇

Today, we announce Zcash JS, the ultimate JavaScript Swiss-knife for building anything with Zcash.

This allows you to build a Zcash application for the web, server, or mobile, safely and securely, with top notch DX.

What can you build with it?

Anything, from wallets, light , to anything that you can imagine.

We are committed to actively maintaining it and building an ecosystem of toolings and libraries around it.

Give it a try, links in the comment 👇

This is a must-watch. Without any changes at the protocol level, this helps us achieve quantum unlinkability for all Zcash swaps.
How we’re making Zcash quantum unlinkable through the use of one-time IVKs!

In this video, I talk about how sharing your shielded address opens you up to a specific quantum attack, and how we solved this linkage for a common feature you probably exposed yourself to already.

Zcash is working on all fronts to make sure it is future-proof, quantum-safe, planetary-scale, encrypted money.

The talent density that the ecosystem commands is extraordinary, and we can't wait for all the future upgrades coming to the network.
Scaling Zcash to Visa-level throughput requires a next-generation networking stack. We're excited to share P2Pv2, which you can try out today in Zakura!

We are so excited by the launch of Zypherpunk!

It is our initiative to bring the brightest minds to Zcash, and we are excited for all the amazing things that will come out of this initiative.
Announcing Zypherpunk!

We are calling up builders, researchers, and creators to come and shape the future of Zcash.

Our aim is to create an entry point for new talent in Zcash, where they can learn, contribute, meet like-minded people, and also get rewarded for their efforts.
re already contributing via Zypherpunk with projects like thus-spoke-zakura, and more are being created as we speak.

We will be focused on the following:

- building more projects like thus-spoke-zakura collaboratively with developers

- creating content and media that accelerates developer-focused education for Zcash

- events and meetups that bring more high-quality technical talent to Zcash

- hackathons to identify the next big projects for Zcash and help them find the right partners for mentoring, funding, etc.

The encrypted money for humanity needs the brightest minds of our generation building for it.

Zcash championed the first zero-knowledge based system deployed at planetary scale, and is now doing the same with PIR.

This hardens the security of Zcash even further, making it oblivious to the node provider about the data you are querying.

We are excited to see how this shapes the ecosystem
Shielded funds. Shielded queries.

PIR is live in Vizor. Beta, for transparent addresses.

Zcash cofounder and executive director of Tachyon, @ebfull on scaling Zcash:

“We’re taking the cryptography that’s at the core of the private payments that take place in our protocol, and we’re removing all the cryptographic bottlenecks that are on the inside.

So, if I had to ’re doing briefly, is that we’re basically taking SNARKs, which are these things that we have inside of Zcash, and we’re adding something called a recursive proof to them. And these are really cool.

Right now in Zcash, when you send private payments, invariably you’re going to have multiple different things happening inside your transaction. So the proofs that you put inside them are quite large. They’re like seven kilobytes on average for a standard payment. And sometimes they’re a little bit larger because of random reasons that aren’t that interesting.

Inside of our thing, because we use recursive proofs, these proofs prove that other proofs have validated properly. And that’s sort of the essence of how they work. So it’s like proofs all the way down. The proofs can prove other instances of themselves, and so on and so on. And you can build all sorts of crazy applications with this.

And one simple example is just this. So in Tachyon, when you create a transaction, it actually doesn’t have a marginal increase in size of the transaction. So it actually, in our specific design, it’s not any larger than what we do in Orchard already.

So we can do the same principle with multiple transactions in a block. So a miner will take all the transactions and take all the proofs out, or these things called stamps, and combine them together into one proof, an aggregate that’s about 17 kilobytes in size. And we can shove as many transactions as possible into the block.

Actually, with the current block size, or the block size that we’re going to have in less than a month, you should be able to at least do about 150 TPS with that. But the real goal is just to enable the sort of asymptotic improvement here.”

Zcash Labs’ grant was approved, so the experiment to fund useful things for Zcash will continue!

If you are building tooling, integrations, or other useful Zcash products, reach out!
Zcash Coinholder Retroactive Grant results are in!

Honestly, I’m surprised at the results…

What got funded: most of the bigger asks got funded, which were mostly for critical infrastructure, ironwood work, and critical bug reports.

A clear signal that coinholders are very willing to fund core infrastructure and critical security.

What didn’t get funded: smaller asks which tended to be more experimental ideas or non-core tools.

I actually thought some of the tools there were useful and should be funded, while others were a bit more“me too” and vibe coded. For some of the smaller amounts I would have voted yes.

A few ways to interpret this:

- Coinholders didn’t like the projects at all and didn’t want to fund them
- Coinholders viewed them as non-critical and not what CHV should be used for
- Coinholders don’t want to administer a small grants program and hope to discourage lots of low effort submissions in the future

Given that @ZcashLabs had the smallest grant approved, I think it may be signal that coinholders are supportive of small grants programs but not of directly voting on every small grant.

That said, I would have expected some of the other small grants to be approved as an example of which small grants Coinholders would like to see funded.

Decentralized funding just got very interesting. Looking forward to see how the next round shapes up.

🛡️🛡️🛡️Shielded Zcash transactions are now available in Ledger Wallet desktop 🛡️🛡️🛡️

I personally committed to this one. It took far longer than I expected, but it is now delivered, and that is what matters.

Privacy here is not a server setting. To keep your shielded balance nd the transaction building happen on your machine: your unified viewing key is stored locally and is never shared with anyone, including us. That is exactly what made the integration trickier.

When it comes to signing the TX, the ZKP is computed on your machine (it's much faster with Ironwood now 🚀), and then the transaction is signed on your device, on a screen you can trust.

Make sure your Ledger Wallet Desktop and Zcash app are up-to-date, and you're good to interact with Ironwood!

Privacy is normal ✊

Stay safe.
