Today, the long hand of the Labour Together Project will make the UK a crueller, less fair and less equal place, while also undermining worker's rights.
This afternoon Shabana Mahmood, one of Labour Toether's most prominent "brave eight" MPs, will present her immigration proposals. They are the most likely going to be the most hardline immigration reforms in a generation.
The Labour Party's leadership will likely try and spin the minor concessions they may have extracted to signal a welcome shift under Burnham. But it really is just that - spin. The totality of the package will mean legal immigrants to this country will be cast into greater insecurity by forcing them to wait much - much longer - for settled status in conditions of worsening insecurity.
These proposals are nearly universally opposed by unions, and for good reason. The reforms will help create a labouring underclass living in conditions of unjust precarity. It binds immigrant workers to bad employees who can exploit them for longer, and pay them less.
They particularly target low-paid but socially necessary workers like carers, who get tied into long-term contracts under awful conditions, often based on broken promises. This precariariat then undermines ALL workers, who must compete in the same workforce as exploited, vulnerable, low-paid employees who can't fight for fair pay and acceptable working conditions.
Mahmood's reforms will be championed by the right-wing press as tough and fair, and she will be celebrated for taking hard decisions. But doing exactly what the right-wing press and bad employers want is actually the path of least resistance. Standing up for all workers, regardless are where they from, is the real hard work, and the essence of solidarity. This should be non-negotiable for a Party born from the trade union movement.
I expect the Green Party will oppose these reforms, but this is also the time for the Labour left to stand up. The Labour left has survived the Starmer/McSweeney years - now they must use that survival to push back against the regressive politics pushed by Mahmood, one of the key architects of the Labour Together project.

🔴 An Israeli soldier posted this photo of Palestinian journalist Marah Awad, blindfolded and with her hands bound, following her arrest during a pre-dawn Israeli military raid on her home in Beit Ummar, north of Hebron in the occupied West Bank, on October 26.
According to her sraeli soldiers questioned her about her writings on Israel, accused her of “incitement,” and confiscated her phone and computer before taking her away. Soldiers also reportedly beat two of her brothers during the raid.
No formal charges have been publicly confirmed.

It's a mantra of the political/media class that X is a cesspit. In fact much of the most unpleasant stuff comes from them.
I've long suspected their real objection is that it exposes what a minority they are.

Ahead of what will clearly be a coordinated assault on Zack Polanski - some basic facts.
1 - Yes, Polanski's own net approval ratings have dipped sharply in recent months. This is primarily the result of more people becoming aware of him and forming an opinion. His actual approval ratings have been remarkably steady and, at 19%, he remains considerably more popular than his party.
2 - By comparison Adrian Ramsay's approval rating when he was co-leader in June 2025 was 5%. 81% had either never heard of them or had never bothered to form an opinion. His fellow co-leader Carla Denyer was only marginally better on 9%.
3 - Reportedly 18,000 members have left in recent months. But this is in the context of an unprecedented surge in membership which took the party from 70k to close to quarter of a million members after Polanski became leader.
4 - The party now has more than 1300 local councillors, compared to less than 900 when Polanski became leader.
5 - Yes, the Greens have dipped in the polls recently. But even now they are at the same level they were when he became leader. And they are primarily victims of their own success having obliged the Labour Party to ditch Starmer - a level of influence the Greens could previously only dream of.
6 - The Zionism is racism motion is held up as having done huge damage to the party. An Opinium poll showed 56% of Green Party members supported it - and just 13% opposed it. A clear majority among all voters under 34 who expressed an opinion supported it.
By any logical criteria, if your aim is for the Greens to become Britain's first genuinely radical, mass political party, capable of holding the balance of power in parliament, it makes no sense whatsoever to get rid of Polanski.
It makes sense only if that is precisely what you don't want to happen.

Not doing this sort of thing was a really cost free way of winning back voters on the left. Just bewildering.
The UK is refusing to let me enter the country to report on and investigate the ongoing crackdown against elderly Palestine supporters because my “presence in the UK is not conducive to the public good.”

This is the statement issued by the Met Police about the Defend Our Juries demonstration today. Commander Adam Slonecki, from Scotland Yard, said: “All those intending on coming to this event know that supporting a proscribed organisation is unlawful – they are essentially meeting to purposefully commit a crime.” This is a remarkable contrual of the law and extent of police powers. Surely it cannot be right that someone protesting against the Government’s decision to proscribe an organisation is automatically interpreted by the Met Police as supporting that organisation and is therefore committing an arrest-able offence. This is especially the case when the proscription is being challenged in the courts. I believe the government and parliament made the wrong decision in proscribing Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation and I continue to call for its deproscription by the government. If the people turning up today to demonstrate against the proscription of Palestine Action are to be arrested for simply turning up, are we all to be criminalised for suggesting the government got this wrong?

This is the slightly more genteel, Green Party version of what the PLP, Labour Together and the party bureaucracy did to Corbyn.
This isn't complicated. If every time large numbers of, primarily young, idealistic people become enthused by politics and seek to engage in the political process you tell them go away, you are not wanted and call them entryists - it is really, really bad for democracy.

Be warned - if the police have reasonable grounds to suspect you might be the sort of person who'd hand a bottle of water to an elderly lady holding a sign - they have the power to order you out of central London today.
A Section 35 dispersal order will be in place in parts of central London from 8am to 11pm today.
This is following information that a group are planning to attend an event and express support for a proscribed organisation, which is an offence under the Terrorism Act.
The order outlined in the below map and means officers can order a person to leave the area or face arrest, where certain conditions apply.
Updates on today's policing operation will be posted on this thread.

Whether motivated by hatred of National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir or corrupt funding by Qatar, the huge mobilisation of Israeli Arabs at this election was the democratic version of the “Al-Aqsa Flood” of October 7.
In both Israel and the West, so great that deliriously energised Islamists believe they’re now within sight of victory over both. To prevent that, governments in Israel, Britain and America need to wake up to the jihadi threat they are facing.

Declassified UK wants to make it absolutely clear that we will not allow people to smear our media organisation with baseless accusations without consequence and that we reserve the right to take legal action against them.
You clearly have no idea what you are talking about Sangita on this.
Declassified are not journalists, they are antisemitic political activists
