In 2021, gas prices were painfully high and crypto was splitting into separate chains, so @PhilippZentner saw the fragmentation and decided to aggregate it, starting with bridge aggregation as an API from day haped every step: bridges first, then swaps plus bridges, then multi-step routes, and now Composer, built on a virtual machine and a language he never meant to invent.
Funding followed quickly, from $2.5M after three months to $17.5M and $19M rounds later, and LIFI is now profitable.
Today it powers 1,400 B2B applications, including MetaMask, Phantom, Robinhood, Fireblocks and Ledger, with about 100 people behind it.
Philipp shares what was easy, what was brutal, and how he plans to make LIFI the orchestration layer for banks and AI agents.
