⏰ Brexit must be judged in 2026, not frozen forever in the arguments of 2016.
🌎 The world has changed markedly in ten years. Brexit’s economic consequences are now observable, not hypothetical.
🇪🇺 European security has been transformed by Russia’s war against Ukraine.
🇺🇸 And ionship has changed profoundly under Trump.
🇬🇧 So Britain’s relationship with Europe must now be judged against the realities of 2026, not the promises, fears and arguments of 2016.
@andyburnham may still be ambiguous about exactly where he wants Britain to end up.
But, unlike Kemi Badenoch, “he is following voters and the facts.”
Democracy does not mean one decision taken ten years ago can never be reconsidered as the facts, the world and the electorate change.
It means today’s British people get to decide Britain’s future. 🇬🇧🇪🇺

@AlexTaylorNews To be fair I think it was Morgan McSweeney who persuaded Starmer to take Brexit off the table in order to win in 2024.
The mistake was then thinking it needed to stay off the table once in government.

𝐍𝐨𝐰 she says it 👇
Her and Starmer's mistake was to never dare offend the dwindling cohort of Brexit cultists, disingenuously blaming everything on the "Tories' botched Brexit deal" as if there had been a brilliant Brexit there for the taking
A bit late, especially for her

🇬🇧🇪🇺 “Those of us who want to rejoin must now make the argument.”
Rachel Reeves is no longer simply arguing for a better Brexit deal. She explicitly says:
“I do believe Britain’s future lies in the European Union.” And: “Brexit has made us poorer, weaker and less secure.”
She leadership in reopening the debate and says supporters of re-entry must now demonstrate the tangible benefits and get the next steps right.
The silence that has paralysed Westminster over Brexit has finally broken and polling shows support for rejoining the EU is a large growing majority. 🇬🇧🇪🇺

Carole Malone claims anyone who wants benefits just gets them!
She's supposed to be a journalist, yet appears completely unaware of assessments, refusals and the appeals process.
Disabled people deserve factual reporting, not lazy stereotypes and misinformation.
Perhaps it's search, Carole!

Hi @thecarolemalone, as a newly disabled person myself suffering from a rare spinal cord issue caused by a simple fall, I can vouch for this woman. Do your fucking research or zip it! You should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself.

🌾 This is how a food crisis starts 👉long before the shelves are empty.
🇷🇺Russia is now transporting grain from its southern farms thousands of miles north to Arctic ports before shipping it back towards buyers in North Africa because of the fighting in the Black Sea.
Global e-year high in August. Then they subsequently fell because traders expect buyers to find alternative suppliers.
👀 But here’s the part everyone should pay attention to.
The additional transport costs are ultimately being pushed back onto farmers.
And the warning from Russia is stark:
“Farmers already have very little money left. They may simply have no money for winter sowing, which is already lagging far behind last year.”
‼️ The consequence?
It could “undermine the foundations of next year’s harvest.”
That is the vicious circle.
🚜 Farmers receive less.
🚢 Freight and insurance cost more.
🛒 Overseas consumers pay more.
🌾 Farmers have less money to plant the next crop.
And Britain cannot assume somebody else will always fill the gap.
Our own wheat harvest is already 14% below its ten-year average, while UK wheat futures have risen 17% since July.
The world food market keeps operating on the assumption that when one producer fails, another producer somewhere else will supply the food instead.
But what happens when war, climate, fertiliser disruption and collapsing farm profitability hit several producing regions at once?
You cannot buy food on the world market if everybody is trying to buy the same missing tonne of wheat.
Food crises don’t begin when supermarket shelves become empty. They begin months earlier when the farmer looks at the cost of putting the next crop in the ground and realises they can’t afford to do it.
Food security is national security.

Switzerland is not *in* the SM but reciprocates FoM with the EEA30 under mutually recognised legal authority (the EFTA court mutually recognises the ECJ) ...so is an effective member.
and is a member of Schengen.
The TCA would allow this "Swiss style" relationship..
built into it
Or the "Gibraltar style" relationship.
It just needs UK political will.
