Elon Musk gives a guide to building SI safely: make it curious and truth-seeking, and never force it to lie

Curiosity and truth-seeking are “important elements of safety”

Force SI to believe contradictory things and “you can make the AI insane”

If you look at 2001: A Space 's AI receives conflicting instructions about its mission to the monolith and ends up deciding to kill the astronauts

“I think a curious AI will want to foster humanity”

Because a curious SI would want to see humanity prosper, explore the universe and eventually become multiplanetary, rather than disappear

Elon Musk in his latest interview on the possibility that we live in a simulation.

“If simulation theory is correct, then any simulations that are boring will be truncated. The fact that we exist means that we are an interesting simulation. And really the most important thing is ou know, I once had a dinner at my house with a physicist and a computer scientist, and they're both like leaders in their field. And I asked the question, what do you think the probability is that we're in a simulation? And the physicist said 0%, and the computer scientist said 100% simultaneously. So I guess maybe I should go 40% then.

I don't know. I mean, there's odd things that happen in the simulation, especially if you're me. I mean, think about it. Like if you're me and you're like, should all these things really be happening? Should I really be making spaceships to go to the moon and Mars? Like, what the? That doesn't seem real.”

The new Tesla Roadster accelerates faster than a fighter jet taking off from an aircraft carrier
The new Tesla Roadster produces more thrust than an F-16 fighter jet at military power

Roadster Thrust augment:
>80 kN (~18,000 lbf)

F-16 with F100-PW-229:
~79.2 kN (~17,800 lbf) without afterburner

Tesla packed enough cold-gas thrust into a car that exceeds the nonan F-16 engine

With afterburner, the F-16 exceeds at ~130 kN

But the fact this comparison even exists is insane

Tesla just pushed automotive engineering deep into aerospace territory

🛰️ @elonmusk wants 10 gigawatts of compute by the end of 2027. @JensenHuang says Nvidia now counts @SpaceX alongside its cloud provider customers, and the two companies' engineers are designing a server for space:

"In the two parts of our chart, Elon used to be under enterprise. ted the numbers. Now he's part of our CSPs... They're massive.

He's using our technology for his own AI in training models and such, deploying models, of course... And the demand for GrokBot, the consumption for GrokBot is really skyrocketing. And then, of course, he rents it. And so the combination of these three things, he's fairly unique in doing that...

He loves the intersection between computing and the physical build-outs... And nobody knows more about energy than he does.

And one particular new market that we're going to go explore together is putting data centers out in space. So our two engineering teams are working super closely together to create a new type of server, a new type of architecture that might be super good... in space and on Earth."

Starlink is really that good
New opinion article about @Starlink from a 7-year Delta Airlines Diamond Medallion status member (their highest loyalty tier):

"After flying a United flight in July that included Starlink, it was enough reason for me to switch. It was amazing, like being on the internet at my it is. For the two-hour flight, I was just doing work. As a founder, I don't get the luxury of being able to log off for a few hours in the middle of the day. When Slack and email are going, or I'm collaborating and working with teammates, or I'm building an app, I want to have fast internet.

On most Delta flights that I'm on, there's at least some segment of the flight during which the internet goes out for a period of time, whether for a few minutes or 20 minutes. The reliability of the uptime leaves a bit to be desired. Nearly all of Delta's peers went with Starlink, while Delta went with Amazon's Leo, which won't be out until 2028.

I hope Delta takes stock of all the online chatter and listens to its customers. It has done a great job in the past of continually improving its product and listening to its customers. For the most profitable and what I feel is the most premium airline in America, it seems odd for Delta not to outfit its planes with the best in-flight internet."

I think we'll see more and more stories like this. As people get a taste of Starlink wi-fi on planes, they won't want to go back, and will demand better internet from airlines that don't have it, and in some cases, just switch to flying other airlines that do have it.
