@NightSkyToday Some years ago I realized I hadn't seen them in a long time. They used to be something to look forward to. Every twilight you had a chance to see something that felt close enough to magic. This is such a sad loss

@NightSkyTodayn is a big part of it. Fireflies flash to find mates, and porch lights and streetlights drown them out. The Great Smoky Mountains still have synchronous fireflies that flash in unison near Elkmont, Tennessee, and so many people want to see them that the park now runs a lottery for viewing passes.

@NightSkyTodaynce of various insects is the cause for many new disease outbreaks. Vultures used to clear the dead bacteria by eating the dead corpses and ensure that viruses are not spread through air. Their reduction in population has also been a cause for increasing spread of plagues.

@NightSkyToday It's the air. It's poison. Insects notice it first because the breath through their skin. Bigger animals will be next.

@NightSkyToday Grave of the Fireflies 1988

@NightSkyToday LEAVE THE LEAVES!!!! Our need to have clean lawns are detrimental to firefly populations.

@NightSkyToday I will keep them
Alive

@NightSkyToday We do not deserve this world 😔

@NightSkyToday That’s a shame for they are so beautiful when they light up the dark.

@NightSkyToday It’s not just fireflies, sadly.

@NightSkyToday Grow more plants and you’ll get more fireflies

@NightSkyToday Let's hope that's not the case.

@NightSkyToday I will miss them

@NightSkyToday Hate to break it to you… but we’ll be the last generation to see a lot of things, believe it or not… 😣😒

@NightSkyToday I will be mourning over them forever. I am so thankful I got to experience seeing fireflies atleast once. It was magical, kind of magical they say doesn't exist. But I hope they will never truly disappear, and they will shine brighter than the sun.

@NightSkyToday There are noticably a lot less when darkness falls. This makes me really sad.

@NightSkyToday One of the worst things I’ve ever read

@NightSkyToday AI will generate them for us. We dont go outside anymore anyways.

@NightSkyToday I remember when I was little, i’d run out the house whenever i’d see one ✨

@NightSkyToday Idk, haven't seen them in years in my yard until this year. We had a whole bunch early in the summer.

@NightSkyToday I saw a lot of them past Summer

@NightSkyToday The hubris of humanity. So sad.

@NightSkyToday Thats terrible...

@NightSkyToday We call the lighting bugs in the South

@NightSkyToday we used to have fireflies goes crazy

@NightSkyToday Its all the shit you put on your lawns..

@NightSkyToday That’s is a magical sight to behold.

@NightSkyToday all the magic in this world, slowly dying

@NightSkyToday Owl City just fell to their knees

@NightSkyToday I will never forgive mankind for this

@NightSkyToday But why is this happening?

@NightSkyToday we’ll never believe our eyes again

@NightSkyToday Our kids won’t be able to catch fireflies

@NightSkyToday No. Absolutely devastating
