📖 Ian Plenderleith on "Who Owns Football?" by Nick Miller ⚽️

"The chapter on the women’s game has a particular U.S. focus thanks to the example of Angel City, a club with no history but plenty of capital, seen by its co-founder Kara Nortman as, in Miller’s words, “the opportunity to align profit and principles.”

🎶 ⚽️Kyndle Wylde sang the anthem at Geodis Park and then not much happened on the field: @NashvilleSC, already assured of the No. 1 playoff seed, vs. @PhilaUnion, for which the scoreless tie sufficed for clinching a playoff spot.

(1) This push to block season expansion due to strain on resources is ironic. These very resources (facilities, staff support) are what were unique about college soccer and propelled its growth in 70s-90s. (2) Expansion bid has gotten this far due to NCAA governing reforms. Now members get direct say to kill it.
Men's college soccer celebrated its move to a fall-spring season. But behind the scenes, there's a strong push to block it.

~150 schools have submitted rescission votes. The NCAA D-1 board will discuss today.
