Holy shit
BOMBSHELL:

Ohio Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton’s own mother urges voters not to vote for her daughter.

“My name is Donna Arthur and I’m Amy Acton’s mother. I worked at Children and Family Service Association, building one of the first two sexual abuse programs in ghter, but when I saw her lying about her opponent—and it’s not easy for a mother to say this—but Amy has a serious problem.

She is a liar. She lies about her past. She says she grew up living in a tent. None of that is true. She’s lied her entire life.

My daughter needs help, and she can’t help you if she needs help herself. People can change, but first they have to tell the truth, and my daughter still isn’t doing that.

Don’t vote for people who lie. Don’t let her become your governor. If you think she’ll make your life better, you’re fooling yourself. It will only get worse.”

That’s one hell of an October surprise.
Community note
Acton's mother lost custody of her children after years of documented issues, including time spent living in a tent and a spouse who sexually abused her daughter Amy (Acton). Amy Acton's brother has also confirmed this story.

This is peak satire
I was mid-hip thrust when I found out @Shanemgillis had called me a whore. Technically I found out four hours later, when I reviewed the footage of Saturday Night Live. My tripod was on the bench, my ring light was clamped to the squat rack and my boyfriend Tanner was holding the ide angle. Tanner films all my content. He is not allowed to look at me.

The “joke” was about how women dress at the gym. I know it was about me, because everything is. So I did what any survivor would do. I went to my car and filmed myself crying. It took 11 takes, because the lighting in a Range Rover is unforgiving, and grief is no excuse for a bad shot. In the final cut, you can see a single tear land on my sports bra right over the logo, which clicks through to an affiliate link. My caption: “I’m literally shaking.”

Then I put on the shortest shorts I own, went back inside, and filmed my ass from three angles with the caption, “Does this outfit work for you, Shane Gillis?” I wanted to send him a message that my body is not for men. To make sure Shane got the message, I tagged him. Then I tagged every man I follow. Some people say my response proved his point. These people are rapists.

This is what discourse used to sound like in this country.
🚨 MILTON FRIEDMAN (1978): Young lawyer asked Milton about when it is okay for a Govt to force a free citizen to act.

Did you get the nuance in Milton's question about the difference between "society" and "govt"...

Do you think a man should be free to sin?

The man as driven the Left insane. They have become the very thing they claim to loathe.
We polled five routes for Trump to leave office before the end of his term. A plurality of Dems support four of them, including a military coup and death by natural causes. The only one underwater, an assassination, is still supported by 29%.

Due respect, but being a great hitter and "having played the game" doesn't mean you intellectually understand the biomechanics of WHY you were a great hitter.

This hitting advice is gibberish, and is contrary to the swing that A-Rod actually had when he played. It may be what he THOUGHT he was doing, it may be what he had in his head when he was swinging, but it isn't what his swing path actually did.

The "modern" advice batters get from the more scientifically accurate hitting coaches and organizations like Driveline is nothing more than a more sophisticated version of the hitting philosophy of Ted Williams that you will read in "The Science of Hitting."

"Old School" types, of which A-Rod is one, like to believe and say that the drop in batting averages and rise in strikeouts has come from a change in hitting philosophy toward what I guess I'll call the "Williams system." But that's nothing more than a "correlation / causation confusion" problem, in that these people can't separate the timing of the drop with the rise of that "new" hitting philosophy.

What they don't consider is that there are other, far more obvious reasons that drop has happened, such as the massive increase in velocity, pitch break, newly developed pitches, and the overall explosion of pitching effectiveness.

The inconvenient fact that people like A-Rod don't acknowledge or understand is that if his "Old School" approach was still the dominant hitting philosophy, it would not produce different results in terms of outcomes. Batting averages would still have dropped like a rock, strikeouts would still have increased, and we'd be in the exact same situation we're in right now.

End of the day, science and analytics has infiltrated the sport of baseball, leading to a much better understanding of the biomechanics of both hitting and pitching, and what the right body movements are to effectively execute the job of hitting and pitching.

The problem is that as this rise of science and analytics has happened, it has benefitted pitching much more, and much more quickly, than it has benefitted hitting. And that is largely because the possible benefits for pitching are higher (i.e. they had more to gain by going down this path than hitting) than they are for hitters.

However, you are already seeing that adjustments for hitters are starting to turn the corner and regain a little bit of position relative to pitchers, once again because of the science/analytics of hitting. Will it ever get us back to the point where you have every All Star hitting .350 with 30 home runs by the break? No, I doubt it, but it probably is going to rebalance the game over the coming decade.

By the way, speaking of the hitting statistics of the late 1990s and early 2000s, I do find it somewhat amusing that when hitters were getting results that were utterly ridiculous — where journeyman hitters were hitting like .280 and 20+ home runs routinely — no one was claiming that "pitching was broken" or "teaching the mechanics of pitching is wrong." We were living through a preposterous explosion of offense, well beyond anything anyone could or should have viewed as "normal" (and interestingly, A-Rod played his entire career in this era), and no one thought it meant anything was "broken" in the game, or that pitching philosophy had somehow failed.

Rather, we simply acknowledged that hitting had an advantage over pitching, whether that was due to steroids, or training methods or anything else. It was just a fact of life, and no one really griped about it.

But now we have a pitching advantage over hitting, and it is entirely understandable when you actually understand what is happening... and this is somehow a catastrophic problem, and the reason it is happening to "Old School" players and coaches is because of a change in philosophy in hitting that was embraced by the greatest hitter in baseball history in the 1940s.

So in summation, I respect A-Rod's hitting ability, but just because he was an elite hitter doesn't mean he actually understands WHY he was an elite hitter, or what he even did in the biomechanics of his swing. He may THINK he understands it, but listening to him here vs. watching video of his swing makes clear that he has very little idea of what he's talking about, despite his career success.

We need to stop treating people who "played the game" as people who have some kind of advanced, esoteric scientific knowledge of their craft. These are athletes, and they know the game, what it is like to play it, and through trial and error they have found things that work well for them. But that doesn't mean they understand a lot of the "why" or "how" behind it all.
Like him or not, this is how you hit. This guy hit for average and power.

Teach this type of hitting again and the game will be better. It will be more exciting, it will be a much better offensive product.

Thank you Alex.

God, what a legend.
I reread this every year.

I cry like a baby every year.

Todd Beamer died a father, husband, and hero.

Todd: Hello… Operator… listen to me. I can’t speak very loud. This is an emergency. I’m a passenger on a United flight to San Francisco. Our plane has been hijacked.

Lisa: see you?

Todd: No. There are three that we know of. They have knives — razor knives, like box cutters. Someone announced from the cockpit there was a bomb. It sounded fake.

Lisa: Your name?Todd: Todd Beamer. United Flight 93.Todd: They killed one passenger in first class. They forced most of us back. Fourteen of us here. Five flight attendants. The guy with the bomb ordered us to sit on the floor.

Lisa: Are you okay?

Todd: We’re going down… wait. No. We’re leveling off. We changed directions. We’re flying east again.

Todd: A guy named Jeremy called his wife. She told him two planes hit the World Trade Center. Lisa, is that true?

Lisa: I have to tell you the truth. It’s very bad. Both towers are gone. A third plane hit the Pentagon. Our country is under attack. I’m afraid your plane may be part of their plan.

Todd: Oh God. Lisa, will you do something for me? Call my wife and my kids. Promise me you’ll call.

Lisa: I promise.

Todd: Our home number is… You have the same name as my wife. Lisa. We’ve been married ten years. She’s pregnant with our third child. Tell her I love her. I’ll always love her. We have two boys — David, he’s 3, and Andrew, he’s 1. Tell them their daddy loves them and he is so proud of them. The baby is due January 12th. I saw an ultrasound. We still don’t know if it’s a girl or a boy.

Lisa: I’ll tell them. I promise, Todd.(Lisa patches in the FBI.)

Agent: Todd, your plane is on a course for Washington. Best guess is the White House or the Capitol.

Todd: I understand. I’ll be back.

Todd: Everyone knows this isn’t a normal hijacking. We have decided we will not be pawns in their plot.

Lisa: What are you going to do?

Todd: Four of us are going to rush the one with the bomb. Then the cockpit. A stewardess is getting boiling water. We’ll take them out.

Todd: Would you pray with me?They pray the Lord’s Prayer. Then: Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me.

Todd: God help me. Jesus help me.Are you guys ready? Let’s Roll.

Pingree can try to pretend that it is "Trump's economy" that has economically ruined Maine, but she will have some tough questions to answer when people noticed that implosion began years before January of 2025, and that she and her cronies were in charge while it happened.
Mainers are tough. But Trump’s economy is squeezing working families across our state, and we need a governor who will fight back and lower costs. Watch our first ad, "Tough," and check out our plans to fight for housing and health care Mainers can afford, and property tax relief.

Due respect, ma'am, but I wouldn't say you are in much of a position to give "governing tips" to anyone.
Governing tip for you, Mr. President: focus on lowering costs for your constituents instead of doodling on maps.

And they took him out. Bro could've had Pedro's 17k night, or hell he had an outside shot of going for Clemens' 20k night... and they yanked him after 6.

I hate this about modern basebal. I get trying to protect his arm... but 1 or 2 more innings isn't going to hurt him.
It's the first time in the entire pitch tracking era that an MLB pitcher struck out 14 batters in a game while throwing fewer than 85 pitches.

I legitimately can't believe what I'm watching with this team. Every single game, I am not only compelled to watch, but compelled to NOT turn the game off, even if they're losing. Even if I have to go to sleep. One of the most amazing runs I've ever seen in baseball.
Game of the year.
