Quite a chronology in the FT.
In May, Putin’s associate Umar Kremlev paid for Donald Trump Jr’s wedding party in the Caribbean.
In August, Trump Jr went to hunt endangered species with Kremlev in Mongolia. He also allegedly auctioned access to the trip for $225,000.
In September, Propublica broke the wedding reception story.

New: Sources from three countries confirm that the Trump Administration has advocated Viktor Orbán for UN Secretary-General.

The US has encouraged Orbán to enter the race, even bringing him the initial idea of a joint U.S.-Russia-China candidacy.

President Trump says the economy is great. Americans, overwhelmingly, disagree. With early voting underway in the midterms, what does the data show?

Trump on Bombardier: “I always viewed them as a Canadian company. You know what I’m talking about. But now we find out they have a presence here, and we’re not hurting them if they’re in Kansas.”

Still thinking about this movie, not sure I’ll stop soon.

Also can we talk about how, with Nathan Fielder, Canada continues its tradition of producing singular comedians?

Not to be overlooked: the role of @22_Minutes in that pipeline.
It’s hard to overstate just how innovative, thought-provoking, artful & surprising You Can See Everything is.

Those 3 hours flew by and have left me wanting to rewatch, to think and to talk about this piece of storytelling like nothing else.

Seriously, go watch it.

I'll be appearing on the @nytimes's Hark Fork podcast again this week, this time to answer viewers' questions about the film and the whole Elizabeth Holmes saga. If you want to ask one, please post it here: nytimes.com/2026/10/16/pod…

The NYT investigation shows that the divide between “clean” and “dirty” gold is an industry fiction. There is just gold. And as Wall Street, central banks and investors stockpile and trade the precious metal, they’re profiting off a supply that includes gold from illegal sources.
the reporting and photography, including of this Madagascar child drinking from a gold mine's waste water pipe, is incredible. the story is infuriating.

a look at how dirty gold is laundered into the world economy, with help from the one org meant to regulate it.

A few readers have taken me to task for “missing the point of the film,” which is apparently that Elizabeth Holmes is unknowable and everything is ambiguous. Here’s my response: She went after Tyler Shultz and Erika Cheung with everything she had. I was threatened with litigation on a daily basis for months on end. It was a ruthless cover-up of a breathtaking fraud, and she was at the controls. Just a little context for those who have forgotten or didn’t follow the original story. By the way, I loved the film. #BestPicture, IMO.
A ton of people have asked me for my thoughts about “You Can See Everything,” the new Elizabeth Holmes documentary. Here they are: nytimes.com/2026/10/17/bus… via @nytimes

Alina Habba Mildon initially told Trump that the $17mn bank transfer at the heart of her spat with Grenell came from her husband. But when her lawyers later presented White House the wire receipt, the sender was redacted. The money actually came from the government of the DRC.
Scoop: The White House investigation into a dispute between two prominent Trump supporters, Richard Grenell and Alina Habba Mildon, centers on a bank transfer from the Democratic Republic of Congo to a Texas defense company,

The facts are reported clearly and dispassionately here by Azam Ahmed, who witnessed the attack. nytimes.com/2026/10/16/wor…
The Prime Minister’s Office:

The facts surrounding the confrontation near Abu Falah, during which Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine was allegedly assaulted, remain unclear and are under investigation.

Israel unequivocally condemns violence against anyone—Jews, Arabs, Christians or journalists. Those responsible will be held accountable.

But serious questions remain. Reports indicate some 200 Arabs and far-left activists confronted approximately 40 Israeli youths. Footage shows masked individuals on both sides hurling objects, amid reports of fireworks fired at Jewish youths. Other footage appears to show Levine knocked down and immediately helped to her feet by the same unidentified individual.

The investigation must establish the facts, including who initiated the violence.

We will not allow disputed incidents to be exploited to demonize the hundreds of thousands of law-abiding Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria.

The facts must determine the conclusions. Not the headlines.

To be clear: Some facts are neither in dispute nor unclear. Our photographer was clearly marked as Press. She was clearly beaten. These are not partisan or risible statements, but indisputable. We urge a thorough investigation and accountability.

Masked Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian villagers on Friday, setting olive groves on fire and slinging rocks.

Caught in the attack was Post photographer Heidi Levine. “They just kept kicking me and kicking me, like probably 50 times,” Levine said. wapo.st/4yt6dHY
