There are leaders who inherit a functioning nation, and there are leaders who help rebuild one from its darkest chapter.
President #PaulKagame belongs to the latter.
Under his leadership, Rwanda has pursued an extraordinary journey of reconstruction, stability and development f the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. A country once known internationally almost entirely through the tragedy of its past increasingly became associated with security, clean cities, institutional reform, investment, technology, tourism and an ambition that extends far beyond its size.
But perhaps the most defining element of President Kagame’s leadership is the philosophy behind it: Rwanda must own its choices, protect its dignity and take responsibility for its future.
He has consistently challenged Rwandans to reject dependency, refuse mediocrity and understand that national progress is built through discipline, accountability and hard work.
Rwanda still has challenges to overcome. Every nation does. But anyone assessing its journey should also acknowledge how far it has come and the determination that made that transformation possible.
That belief changed Rwanda.
And the journey continues.
