If you've been wondering what the Barcelona superblock conversions look like -
Barcelona’s Superblocks are one of the world’s most influential urban transformations. In a city where cars take 20% of trips but 60% of public space, they offer a radical proposition: what if streets were designed not as conduits for traffic but as extensions of living rooms?🧵

We’re going to more than double Pennsylvania‘s minimum wage. Codify abortion rights into our state Constitution. Fund mass transit. Build more housing.
These are the commonsense things that Pennsylvanians want done.
And with a Democratic trifecta, we will deliver on all of them.

Democrats deliver!
Unsolicited advice to all the Democrats who won tough seats this week across the country: have the best possible constituent service operation you can.
I won and flipped my first state house district in 2016 by 323 votes the same night that Trump won my seat by 12 points.
My solving constituent cases because I believe that we can connect with residents regardless of party in this way. We still work this hard at casework.
The proof it works? This comment from a constituent this morning on my Facebook page:

Vision-Based Planning is when the rules follow the vision. Not: the rules create awful buildings with low quality units with massive carbon demand to cool the idiotic design (spend 2 days in a glass tower in Vancouver that is not built for their summers and you will be a believer in passive design)
Beauty is so incredibly important. One of the cruel ironies is that massing requirements and other efforts to “require beauty” often backfire and prevent the traditional styles many people love most.

@LindsayJS @VictorDover Agree especially about the boring wonky rules part, which is not well understood by many

I hope Dems get the msg - affordability affordability affordability. The voters were very clear.
Matthew Yglesias names 6 top Dem issues - only one effects pocket book and only those on Medicaid.
Here are issues that cost tax payers nothing and address cost of living and prosperity:
1. Walkable neighborhoods & courtyard buildings
2. Permit reform for solar, wind and nuclear. My preference: states must pre-permit a green grid and ZERO fees for green housing and energy.
3. Overhaul taxes and cut middle class and working class taxes. Embrace it. Shift taxes to the earn-borrow-die loophole & polluters.

Three issues that I think distinguish left-wing Democrats from establishment ones, and three issues that distinguish moderate Democrats from establishment ones — open to other suggestions of issues to look at.

The phone company would send this GIANT book to your house (I’m talking like 8 inches thick on super thin paper) and it doxxed everyone in your town. Their address, their phone number, etc.. And they sent it to everyone in town. For free. Just because. Wild.
Millennials, what was considered completely NORMAL in 2005 that would be absolutely unhinged today?

Clearly, the path to victory in America is through YIMBY single-stair reform.

Effective abundance public policy to achieve affordability transcends the labels of moderate vs progressive — it’s both.
Build lots of housing —> lower rent.
Unlock permitting for solar - crazy idea — no fees! —> greens the grids and lowers household costs.
The best one - walkaburtyard Urbanism — great urban housing in walkable neighborhoods for the 40% of people who want it. Jobs, economic development (for moderates); and low cost starter homes without car payments —> affordability — the thing everyone cares about.
They’re also wildly popular:

This makes sense! Run progressives in blue states, run candidates that code moderate in swing states.
It's so obvious but somehow we are going to spend the next 50 years arguing about it

Someone should really build a bike network and then study what happens.
New York has a lot of protected bike lanes — but they don't always lead somewhere.
