Converted old temple into a student clubhouse for dorms in Syracuse. Pretty cool historic preservation.
I just wish the attached dorms looked better. Missed opportunity to match that vernacular design!

I cover this kind of dorm news and adaptive reuse in my weekly-ish links roundup article on College Town. Follow there for all the update. collegetowns.org/p/internationa…

MEHKO permits were one of the best changes to CA law/local zoning statewide ever - just a few years ago this would be illegal in 99% of cities
🍕 A guy in San Diego makes pizza in an ordinary home oven. Now 3,500 people are on the waiting list
No restaurant, no professional pizza oven, and no delivery. Just a guy named AJ, his home kitchen, and pizzas that sell out in less than a minute.
Customers are limited to one only if they're lucky enough to secure a spot.
While the pizza is baking, AJ sends customers updates at every stage, so they can time their arrival and pick it up fresh out of the oven. There's no delivery — you have to collect it yourself.
His recipe is unusual, too. Originally from the East Coast, AJ combines crispy New York-style pizza with the traditions of New Haven, Connecticut. Sourdough crust, signature charred edges — and thousands of people eager to try it.
Apparently, you don't even need to open a pizzeria to run a successful pizza business.

We were also watching old shows from previous eras like I Love Lucy.
It wasn’t weird to see 50s coded Simpsons because we also watched Nick at Nite.

Tbf everything in The Simpsons is 50s-code, because that's when Matt Groening was a kid. The whole town going church, beehive haircuts and a children's variety show hosted by a clown were all unrelatable to 90s kids.

Another reason post-War America of the Boomers resonates so much with Millennials.
A lot of monoculture that everyone shared up until the early 2000s.

The phone company would send this GIANT book to your house (I’m talking like 8 inches thick on super thin paper) and it doxxed everyone in your town. Their address, their phone number, etc.. And they sent it to everyone in town. For free. Just because. Wild.

This is a stunning prefab.
Not the trailer parks we're used to in the US!

A lost element of elder Millennial youth culture: the LAN party.
Faster internet means friends just stay at home to play now.

INSOMNIAC WITH DAVE ATTELL (2001) was a brilliant late-night comedy travelogue. Attell would hit a different city, stay out until sunrise & stumble into the kind of bizarre encounters no travel show would ever plan. Gloriously unfiltered TV.

Should be an interesting day.
I’m at a design conference with the world‘s best traditional architects and designers.
Half of them went to Notre Dame.
The other half went to Miami

The most fun part of development is bringing a real vision to life. It's not just pretty pictures, but real buildings and places for people to use and love.

best sketch of the night (maybe of the season so far?) perfect game show sketch with a clear and relatable perspective and social commentary. every joke lands, love that it's all women cast members, tight, snappy, sharp, well-performed. anyone know who wrote this one?

My first development from 2018/19. The Bend in Carlton Landing, a TND in Oklahoma.
We secured 3 lots and split them into 6, arranged in a horseshoe around a central shared courtyard and a more private rear courtyard through the moongate.🧵
