A New Year, a new book list! Keep track of this thread to see all the books I’m reading in 2026 👇
@edneygbraga 114. Thomas’ Treatise on Divine Government is a classic exploration of providence, the ordering of angels and demons, and the relation between body and soul in humanity. Unexpectedly it ends with an article on the nature of semen as surplus food!

The 3 biggest class culprits for snobbishness in the UK are the nouveau riche, who (falsely) believe that imitating the upper class requires snobbishness; the upper working class, who are dreadfully snobbish towards those lower down the pecking order; & the nouveau middle class.

You can tell the difference between nouveau riche who act like their upper class and the upper class themselves, in that there is generally a wonderful lack of snobbishness to their 'social inferiors' in the latter.

Sounds harsh, until you've had 30–50 canonically irregular prelates run into your yard within 3–5 minutes while your small kids play.

Experimenting with a Catechesis series that begins with the practical elements, rather than concluding with them. I think we live in such a de-Christianised society that knowing how to *do* the faith is crucial to surviving as an individual Christian.
Some photos from Mass and Catechesis last Saturday! In our first session we covered how and why we say the Daily Office and the importance of prayer in the Christian life. Join us at 10am next Saturday as we discuss “How to behave at the Mass”!

For those who are posting about how the Liberals were destroyed at the 1924 election... that's kinda the point of this being a meme...

I am convinced that had Jonathan Edwards lived long enough to write his intended trilogy on Scripture, nature, and history, he would have gone down as one of the top-tier theologians in Christian history.

It is not surprising that Moltmann became a big hit with Anglican theologians in the 2nd half of the 20th C, considering how many of his themes were prominent amongst Anglicans in the 1st half (dynamic, evolving, sacramental universe; divine passibility; Christian socialism etc)

The list goes on: Hegelian dialectics; kenotic Christology; Romantic worldview; communitarian ethics... It's also not surprising that Moltmann began to reference Liberal Catholic theologians (such as Studdert Kennedy) once he became more acquainted with English theology.

My father was a sacramentally low-church Pentecostal pastor and would publicly recite this verse every Sunday at the Lord's Supper.
The verse no Protestant wants you to read:
For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves. (1 Corinthians 11:29)

I am trying to think of a more shocking betrayal of a friend and ally by a major power in history. What are the parallels?
russia has run into serious problems with its offensive in Donbas, where its forces have become bogged down.
One of the main reasons was that russian logistics had been crippled by Ukrainian drone strikes. This campaign depended heavily on Starlink terminals operating on high-speed Ukrainian drones.
russian military command identified this as a critical problem and approached the American side, asking it to restrict the speeds at which Starlink terminals could operate.
The argument was simple: there would be little public backlash because the US could still claim that Starlink was operational and that the service was still being provided.
The Trump administration agreed to the restrictions, effectively solving a critical battlefield problem for Russia.
As a result, russian logistics in Donbas are now safer, and Ukraine has lost an important advantage on the battlefield.

I'm not talking here about the best theologians - Field, Ussher, the Cambridge Platonists, Pearson, Bull, and Butler would have to be included here - but rather those who changed the Anglican trajectory. The one figure who should be on the list as well is Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
