The appeal exposes the political character of Bogdan’s prosecution. A socialist opponent of both the Russian invasion and the NATO-led war policy was transformed into a “traitor” because he opposed the nationalist and pro-war line of the Ukrainian state and fought for the unity n workers.

The Stop the War Coalition has responded to the Socialist Equality Party's request to defend our comrade, Bogdan Syrotiuk.

Their statement notes that he was "sentenced to 15 years imprisonment" on "charges of 'high treason' under martial law for opposing NATO and for calling for solidarity with Ukrainian and Russian workers." They add that "The same charge of support for the Russian government has been levelled against all opponents of NATO’s proxy war in Ukraine, including Stop the War."
