🚨 ANNOUNCEMENT

Introducing drawtactics.com

A lot of people have asked me how I make my tactical diagrams, so I've made a web app that gives you access to my tactics board

For those who like to analyse using match footage screenshots, there also a screenshot annotation ocess 10x faster

The web app is still in MVP stage - it's not perfect yet, and I'll be updating it monthly to improve it

It works best on desktop browsers at the moment - I'm working on touchscreen functionality (although the tactics board is mostly functional on iPad)

If you use it, don't hesitate to get in touch with any questions, suggestions, problems or feedback you have 📩

Enjoyed watching Barca - Villa

Often 3+1 rest defence w/Rodri, two wingers holding width

Then Fermin, Raphinha, Pedri, Cancelo roaming across the width of the halfspaces

Emery's side unable to deal with the midfield overloads with Raphinha dropping in

Been annotating some video clips of PSG for tomorrow's Substack newsletter

Running out of superlatives for their rotations

Even sequences that don't lead to breakthroughs are fascinating to watch

Rarely seen a team create decisional crises for their opponents so relentlessly

📐 Little addition to @drawtactics video analysis and screenshot annotation tools

You can now superimpose various zonal grids onto your footage (w/o drawing it yourself ofc)

Many things to complement about this PSG team, but one key thing is that every player is comfortable carrying the ball and taking extra touches under pressure when necessary

This means they can manipulate the opponent and wait for the right option to become available
PSG aren’t even playing football anymore . I don’t know what to call this

ofc I’m biased but the amount of value in DrawTactics for coaches and analysts atm is ABSURD

Especially with the recent updates & the ones that are on the way

Constant evolution 🧬
See the game through your players’ eyes 👀

📽️ Update to the video analysis tool in the @drawtactics web app

As well as improving telestration tools, I've found a way to export videos more smoothly

You can now create ~professional standard telestration straight from your browser on DrawTactics - no apps to download!

Diagonal dropping movements from Odegaard to get free against Liverpool's high press early on

In Liverpool's man-to-man scheme, the idea was for Mac Allister and Nyoni to mark Guimaraes and Rice

Then van Dijk (LCB) should jump to Odegaard (usually in the right halfspace)
egaard move over towards the left halfspace, meaning van Dijk would have to move a large distance as well as cross over with Jacquet in order to follow, which he was initially hesitant to do

Arsenal then had a +1 in midfield

Big factor in helping Arsenal settle into the game in the first twenty minutes

🟠 Barcelona buildup sequence vs PSG (61st min)

- classic use of third-man principle to beat Akliouche's attempt to direct Barca's press with his curved run - Fermin's well-timed dropping movement for the bounce pass

- after the pass, Fermin's quick change of direction creates dynamic advantage), setting up another third-man combination via Yamal

- excellent shared understanding for the up-back-through between Yamal, Gordon, and Gavi who makes the blindside movement off Ruiz

Happy with how the new animated tactics board is looking

Gonna polish up some of the UI/UX in the coming days
⚽️ What went wrong in Barcelona’s pressing?

In both defeats for Barcelona last week, they faced teams who used the switch of play effectively

Barcelona are quite ball-oriented in their pressing and try to keep their defensive line closely connected, meaning they leave space on the ball-far side

💻 Added a new animator version to the DrawTactics web app alongside the existing one

Much smoother export on web app compared to the old animator, new pitch, annotation + player style options, plus new UI design (the motivation for which will become clear soon)

More to come
